Chapter 12

Pov Shin

A month and a half after becoming an official member of the Gokan clan.

As I lay waiting for my grandpa to finish the -Sensory Guardian- juinjutsu, I got to thinking how fast these weeks have gone by.

Since the ceremony at the clan compound, dad, mom and my uncle have spent all their time with me, teaching me or in training, at first everything was fine, but then it became a bit suffocating.

If it wasn't for my grandpa who took everything more normally, I could sit next to him while he worked and I drew. This changed when I was able to control my chakra and my training, holding a tree leaf on my forehead and the back of my neck got better and better.

Since grandpa realized that I would soon have the juinjutsu he started to only talk to me about it, about various cases that exist, their risks, and how I should practically never allow someone to make me other juinjutsu than -Sensory Guardian-, I must say when he told me about the most serious case, the Hyuga clan, it did scare me to have that kind of seal on my body.

I don't understand how they can't have juinjutsu more like ours, which only protects our secrets nothing else, but from what my grandpa told me it is very difficult to create a juinjutsu, you have to be at least a master in fuinjutsu like him but a great master is preferable. Besides, it is difficult to modify them.

grandpa took a break from engraving juinjutsu on my body. Not even a minute passed and he began.

“Shin, remember that this technique is the exception.”

“grandpa,” I interrupted him.

“I love you very much, but if you keep giving more warnings of the same thing I'm going to scream, I know it's very dangerous, that they are almost impossible to remove, and I should never let anyone do one to me” I told him.

I hope I didn't sound too rude, it's just that I'm already nervous. Today I will learn my first jutsu. I just have to wait for dad to arrive from his mission, which I'm almost sure he took today just to make me wait more to learn the jutsu.

“We know we tell you this a lot, but it's important, besides it's not normal that you accepted this without any questions, Byu told me that you didn't ask him anything about juinjutsu in a month, anyone else would be nervous.”

“Would I have to be?”, I asked, I didn't imagine they were so insistent because I didn't ask more about the jutsu.

From the look on my grandpa's face I understood that he thought I was taking this lightly.

“Don't think badly grandpa, I understand it's serious. But dad told me that the whole family has it, you even showed me all of you, a month ago that you had the same juinjutsu, besides you told me that you would be the one to record the jutsu, I don't understand why I would distrust a jutsu that my whole family has, and my grandpa would take care of doing it”, I told him.

My grandpa just stared at me. “You really are smarter in some aspects, that others are not Shin. You're right we didn't see it from your point of view, it's normal for you to trust so much, otherwise it would be like distrusting your family.”

“I will continue in a few minutes, rest a little, we will finish soon,” he told me.

I took out my brushes, paper and ink from a -sealing scroll-, since my grandpa told me about them, and I can control my chakra to use them, I find them the most amazing thing after -Fire Element: Dragon Flame Fire Bullet- from dad, no more scattered ink or crumpled papers, I just have to bring a scroll and I will have them in perfect condition.

My uncle also told me that they are very useful to carry all kinds of things very easily, the problem is that they are expensive and not everyone can buy them freely, apparently fuinjutsu and everything related to it, is usually very rare and expensive.

Again I understand how great my grandpa is, being one of the fuinjutsu masters of the village, plus he told me that he would give me all the scrolls I wanted, for him to make them only takes a few minutes. Dad also told me how useful fuinjutsu is, and as he always has several scrolls to have various items, according to his motto 'It is better to be prepared than dead', it is essential to always have some scrolls at all times.

My grandpa even told me that if I wanted he could teach me fuinjutsu, I am seriously thinking about it. According to my parents' plan I will have free time to study other things since I will graduate as late as possible. Apart from the drawing tutorials, there was nothing else that caught my attention, since I would learn ninjutsu anyway in training, I was more interested in doing fuinjutsu than being a medical ninja.

Anyway, my parents told me that the first few years I would focus on the basics, and then I would learn anything extra I wanted. I guess I would decide later on what else to study.

After minutes of drawing hawks, my grandpa told me that we would continue, I put everything away in the scroll, and lay down on my stomach.

As I waited for my grandpa to finish, my thoughts just wandered. I remembered that another good thing about the clan is that I was able to make another friend, the blacksmith Muzukashi who is a distant relative who returned a few weeks ago with his son Hanma. Hanma is older than me by 3 years, but he is quite nice and honest.

He is very much like his father, and loves to talk about weapons. I didn't know the history of the 7 swordsmen of the mist, Hanma even had a book with drawings of what each sword looked like, I also didn't know about the famous sword of the second Hokage, I can tell he has a passion for his craft, plus he can draw, even though his drawings are only of weapons, he is the first person near my age yhat I know, who also draws well.

Although he only draws weapons, it was difficult to convince him to draw animals, that would help him a lot to improve, in the end I got him to draw the swords with his swordsmen, in different poses, that will help him to improve. He also gave me tips to draw better weapons, I wanted to draw dad with his katana.

Mom came back in, and asked if everything was going well. I am amazed that my grandpa didn't tell her anything yet, he doesn't like to be interrupted when he is working. I can tell mom is nervous too, I seriously don't understand why everyone is so worried if everyone has the same juinjutsu.

“Mom, if you want to stay, do it, I don't think it would be worse than interrupting grandpa so many times,” I said. I could tell grandpa was getting impatient.

Mom just nodded her head and sat in the corner.

I spent the rest of the time thinking what kind of jutsus I would learn next, I know that the 3 basic jutsus they teach at the academy will be among the first, but then there are hundreds of jutsus to learn, both dad and my uncle recommended me to learn -Body Flicker-, which is very useful to learn early on.

Mom told me that any jutsu is well used is useful, but in her case -Water Clones- is her most useful jutsu, but first I would have to see what my nature transformation is, when I found out that each person is usually born with only one affinity I got worried, but dad explained to me that it only affects how fast you can learn jutsu of that type of nature, even if I don't have fire nature I could learn fire jutsu, but it would take me longer to learn.

Although I still don't know what my nature is, I know that, if it's not fire it would be best to first learn many jutsu of that type of nature, we have to use our strengths after all. So until I know what my affinity is I can only think of possible scenarios.

Dad and my uncle use fire, my grandpa uses earth and water, and mom water, so I would prefer any of the 3, although dad told me that thunder is a very strong affinity but hard to control, and wind is very rare in the clan.

After a few minutes my grandpa told me I was done, he asked me a few questions, but I felt normal, then he told me to concentrate my chakra on my neck, on the point he was touching, when I did that, I could see through a mirror in the room how the symbols were absorbed in my neck.

I could notice how my mom and grandpa sighed with relief, and I think I did too, I hope that now they are not so nervous about the juinjutsu, we left the underground room inside the clan complex, apparently it was the room designated to record juinjutsu, it was difficult to spy and could only be entered with a type of key, which my dad and grandpa had.

Apparently grandpa was the fuinjutsu master of the clan, that's why he also has the juinjutsu and knows how to record -Sensory Guardian-, since the clan has no fuinjutsu master an exception was made for grandpa, and now he is an advisor of the clan. Although mom told me that he agreed to help the clan, and didn't trust anyone else to engrave juinjutsu on me. Dad was very grateful for this.

We waited inside the main building for Dad to arrive, but no sooner had we sat down than he arrived.

“I hope everything went well,” he said.

As I ran to him.

“Everything went well, no problem with the jutsu” said my grandpa.

When I was close to him I opened my arms, for sure dad thought I was going to give him a hug, but I threw myself on his leg, took a rope out of my pocket and tied myself to his leg.

“Show me the clan jutsu” I said, without letting go.

“Shin what is this?” dad asked me.

“You’ve been joking around a lot lately, but today you'll teach me my first jutsu, no matter what,” I told him.

“Shin you are exaggerating, it was just a little teasing,” he told me.

I raised my head and looked at him angrily, “Like when you told me the affinities were, dragon, turtle, tiger and phoenix, or you didn't tell me I would wait more than a month without learning a jutsu, or you were going to teach me shurikenjutsu but I haven't even touched shuriken that aren't toy ones.”

I could hear mom and grandpa laughing, but I didn't care. Today I wouldn't sleep until I learned my first jutsu.

“Shin obviously today I will teach you the jutsu - Super Hearing-, I wouldn't delay your advancement for jokes, let go of me,” he told me, but I knew that tone of voice.

I looked at him for a few seconds, and said, “Grandpa gave me a scroll that I can activate from afar, if you don't teach me the jutsu all your clothes will be filled with ink.”

This time mom's laughter sounded louder and grandpa just nodded his head.

I let go and we looked at each other.

“It's fine you won son” he said to me, he pulled out of a medium sized scroll several sleighbells.

“Old man if you want you can join us, but don't go into the room, Yumi follow us, I don't think Shin will get hurt but you never know the first time.”

I followed dad, and we went into a very dark underground room, you could barely see anything, he told me to sit in a circle on the floor.

I heard a sleighbell, “This room is designed to avoid external noise, and that the sound lasts longer in the air, close your eyes”. said dad.

I closed them and heard the sleighbell again. “Where I am ringing the sleighbell should be the limit of a normal person.”

I noticed that I heard the sound fainter, but it was still clear.

“At this distance there should be no problem for you, now I will go to your limit, try to pay attention,” Dad told me.

This time I had a hard time listening, until I noticed barely a sound, so I thought it was my mind, but I noticed a rhythm in the sound.

“Can you hear it?” he asked,

“Yes, I can barely,” I said.

“And now?” he asked me. I didn't hear anything for a few seconds, until I tried as hard as possible to concentrate, I heard only my heartbeat, but suddenly I heard sonthing imperceptible, it didn't sound like the sleighbell but it was a noise.

I told him if I heard a noise, he started asking me how many times I heard it, after I answered him 4 times, he moved again but this time I never heard anything.

“Your hearing is close to twice of a normal person, better than I thought, now that we know your limit we will try using the jutsu”, I don't know when but my dad came over and told me to do the hand seals.

He had told me a long time ago what they were. At first I wasn't sure if it was true, but I practiced them anyway. I'm still not fast, but I can do them without making a mistake. There were 5 hand seals. Dad had his hand on my shoulder to help me guide the chakra.

A few seconds after bringing the chakra to my ears, I heard another steady sound, and Dad moved. “Do you hear me loud, weak or fine?” he said.

I heard it as if it was three feet away from me. “Fine.”

I heard a very faint sleighbell. “The sleighbell compared to the time it rang at your hearing limit, how loud did it sound?”, dad asked.

“Weak, but not like my hearing limit, almost like the time before my limit”, I said.

We repeated the process two more times, until I reached a point where I couldn't hear anymore.

“Your max now is about 7 times of a person, pretty good for your first time. I think you won't have a hard time getting to the master level before you graduate, which is a hearing 20 times of a normal person,” Dad told me.

“Do you want to try something amazing wtih this jutsu?” he asked me.

“Yes,” I told him without thinking, I understand that I can hear better, but in this dark room, I can't differentiate how much is 7 times more.

“At your feet there is a real kunai, try to hear where I am approaching, if you miss there is no candy for two weeks,” my dad said, his voice cut off immediately.

I could not even have my moment of joy to touch my first real kunai. I took it and put all my attention to listening, but I did not hear footsteps or anything like that. After a few seconds, I thought I heard something but I was not sure.

The sound came and went, but did not stay still, I could barely hear it, it was like a drum in the distance, but they were irregular blows, I decided to take a chance and wait for the sound to come close to where I was aiming the kunai, as soon as it did I threw it, I heard a *cling*, the sound of two metals colliding, my dad blocked the kunai.

“You took longer than I thought, but well done, disable the jutsu. Do you know what you were listening to?” he asked me, while getting closer.

“Your footsteps,” I told him.

“No Shin my heartbeat, I was five feet away walking around, with your level it's the maximum range for you to hear someone else's heartbeat, if they do not have very thick clothing”, he told me.

I could only be shocked, I didn't think I would have the ability to hear people's heartbeats, even at five feet.

“Shin, this is one of the reasons why our clan was called `the clan you can't assassinate’, it is almost impossible for someone to get too close to us without our senses detecting it.”
