POV Shin
"The five jutsu are: "
"Gokan: Supreme Touch Jutsu."
"Gokan: Super Hearing Jutsu."
"Gokan: Superior Vision Jutsu".
"Gokan: Exquisite Smell Jutsu."
"Gokan: Refined Taste Jutsu."
"These are the pillars of the clan, renamed in the name of The Gokan," Dad said.
"Dad, Gokan is part of the name, but I've never heard of jutsu named after their creator or the clan that created them," I asked, as it seemed strange to me.
"The official name of the jutsu contains the word Gokan, and many of them also bear the name of the clan that developed them. However, when you speak, it is not necessary to pronounce the full name; it is usually omitted," he explained.
"Of course, there are other examples such as different versions of jutsu. Imagine if I had a unique version of the fire dragon jutsu; I could call it 'fire dragon jutsu, Gokan version' if it belongs to our clan, 'Byu's version,' or any other I want," Dad explained.
"So it's a matter of taste how you name them, it wouldn't take away the importance of the name?", I remember my grandfather telling me that it's important to name things, it gives them more meaning.
"It is important that records include the official name and its creator, although some jutsu do not have a creator or version due to their multiple improvements," he explained to me.
"I understand, I guess the jutsus are in the name of the clan and The Gokan," I said.
"Exactly, also The Gokan had other names to his jutsus but... let's just say naming jutsus was not his forte," he told me.
"What were the previous names like?" ask.
"The vision one is called, Super Vision," he told me without seeing me.
"And smell?"
"Super Smell..."
"The hearing one stayed the same?"
"The Gokan protested, and got one to stay as its original name," my father sighed. "Remember Shin everyone, even geniuses have things they are bad at."
"I understand father," I said but I couldn't help but laugh, calling such good jutsus, 'Super' plus the sense that corresponds, is a very original way of naming them.
“The reason we are alone is because, by custom, at the time of choosing the first jutsu, only the clan leader and the person who is going to select his technique are present. This is done to avoid any outside influence on the decision. It is more common in the case of parents forcing them to choose a jutsu that their child does not want, but it is a tradition," Dad said.
“It is common that, before the choice, parents take time to explain each jutsu to their children, making sure they are well prepared to make the right choice. In our case as you are my son, there is no problem to explain now, my father did the same with me, he told me that it is not necessary to think about it so much, in the end you will be able to learn the 5 jutsu as long as you are a clan ninja", my father told me while he pointed me to come closer.
"Son, as you know every sense will be greatly amplified when you use the jutsu. Now I am going to reveal secrets to you that only we of the clan know. There is no record of this knowledge anywhere, so listen carefully," he warned me.
I couldn't stop my heart from racing, there are even more secrets, I put all my attention.
"Each jutsu has three secrets. The first is that when you reach the master level in a jutsu, it permanently improves that sense. For example, I have mastered the -Superior Vision Jutsu-, which means that my visual ability is three times that of any normal person," he explained.
I could only watch my father with my mouth open, they were jutsus that forever enhance your senses, without using chakra.
"Wait, there are even more incredible things. The second secret is the most valuable: once you reach master level with the jutsu, it will not be detectable by sensor ninja. This makes us one of the best at scouting and infiltration; our jutsu are completely undetectable. Don't forget this, Shin, it's extremely important," Dad continued.
I recognized how amazing this ability was. I had been told about sensor ninja, how unusual and crucial they are. They have the ability to sense the presence of ninja who do not hide their chakra, as well as detect the use of jutsu.
"And lastly, when a ninja who is at master level in any of the five jutsu, can make his children have that sense or in rare cases other senses, more developed, this is clearly not as much as when you reach master level in any jutsu, but this increases your limit when you learn the jutsu of that sense, since the 5 jutsu are applied on your base senses," he finished telling me.
I stared at Dad for a while, and asked. "Like a Kekkei Genkai?"
"This is a little explored topic, but it could be a phenomenon of this type. It is true that it is more often inherited, although there are also people who only experience a slight increase in visual acuity, while others can have almost double vision," he told me.
"Shin, I know that you understand the situation, but it is crucial that this remains a secret; if you wish to talk more about it in the future, let me know so that we can go to a safe place."
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
"I understand father, I must say that our jutsus are better than I had imagined," they had many extra benefits, I understand even more how much of a genius The Gokan must have been.
"Dad, which sense will I start with?" I asked, I couldn't help the urge to start learning my first jutsu.
"That's your decision, son. But I will help you by giving you advice. If you are not interested in being a medical ninja or using poisons, I recommend you leave smell and taste for the latter, it is the most common in the clan. Now you have to know Shin, that you have inherited a more acute sense of hearing and touch."
"Really?", I asked in surprise.
"Usually these sense enhancements start from 3 to 4 years old, weeks ago the day I showed you the jutsu -Fire Element: Dragon Flame Fire Bullet-, you could hear the noise of the restaurant blocks behind, Shin. There you had your first awakening of senses, and because of your high facility with brushes and drawing, you have a more acute sense of touch, although touch may take years to finish its awakening," he told me.
"The 'awakening' is just the name we give it when a child begins to overcome the barrier of normal senses in a human, because it has inherited more acute senses from its parents "
Dad kept talking as if what he had just said was no big deal. "My recommendation would be to avoid learning the -Supreme Touch Jutsu-, at least until a few more years, until your awakening is over. So you would have hearing and sight as your best options."
"Dad, wait, how sharp are my senses now? And why I have two stronger senses?", I asked before he continued.
He laughed at me and commented, "Your hearing seems to be 80% better than the average person. That's pretty impressive, and your awakening has been surprisingly quick. Touch if very difficult to measure, we don't have an established system to measure it, but one indication is that the person is very good at motor activities, without having practiced much, as you are still improving your drawings very fast, it means you are still in the middle of your awakening, when you find it hard to improve is that it is over, and your sense of touch will not improve anymore."
He continued. "And the reason you have two enhanced senses is because your mom is also a master in one of the 5 jutsu. As I was saying, your best options are..."
"DAD! What do you mean mom is also at the master level?", I interrupted him.
Dad just laughed again.
I'm beginning to think he's doing it on purpose.
"Wives or husbands can learn clan jutsu if the leader approves, generally if they are ninja in good standing and agree to take clan juinjutsu they are allowed to practice the jutsus," Dad said.
"Before you ask me, juinjutsu is like fuinjutsu but done on the skin, like tattoos, in our clan it is mandatory to have it, this one makes sure you can never divulge the clan's jutsu, even if you want to or if you are being tortured."
"Shin, juinjutsu is very dangerous, it is not something you should take lightly, by the same reason it is the only one in the clan, our ancestors did not like how invasive it could be, and there are clans that use much more restrictive juinjutsu. You can trust us, your mother, your grandfather and my brother and I have it. What it does is give you a sharp pain if you try to reveal the jutsus, and if you follow through it paralyzes you completely for a few minutes."
Dad turned and showed me the back of his neck, several symbols appeared around his neck and down his back. "It's called -Sensory Guardian-. It's invisible unless you want to make it visible."
It looked impressive, out of nowhere came all those kanji and other signs.
"Then today you will engrave this fuinjutsu on me," I affirmed.
"First you have to choose which jutsus you want to learn. I told you my opinion but the decision is yours, I am master in all jutsus except -Exquisite Smell-, your mom is master in smell and close to master with hearing and taste", he told me.
"Wouldn't the best option be to learn - Super Hearing Jutsu -, given that I have my awakening, and I will be able to hear even more, given that my 'base' sense is stronger?"
"Also, what is your awakening dad, which sense are you more developed?", I asked.
"If we're talking just theory, yes, hearing would be a good starting point, as I told you in the end you'll master them all, plus you're very young, by the time you graduate from the academy you'd be at master level in your first sense and starting your second and maybe third. "
"My awakening senses are touch and sight, and the first jutsu I learned was -Superior Vision-. In my case touch took years to finish, that's why I've been very good at shurikenjutsu since I was young, and it also helped me improve in kenjutsu," Dad told me.
I thought about it for a few minutes, but learning -Super Hearing Jutsu- sounded better to me, I'm not interested in poisons at least not now. Hiroto had told me about the different ninja and their specialties in combat. What interests me most is ninjutsu and shurikenjutsu.
While having better vision also sounds very helpful, I remember both my grandfather and dad telling me that it's better to focus on what you're good at and then on other things.
Besides, if I graduate from the academy already practicing at least my second sense, I could learn -Superior Vision Jutsu- later, or -Supreme Touch Jutsu-, if my awakening ends.
"I choose - Super Hearing Jutsu-, the name is too awesome not to choose," I said to my father smiling.
My dad just smiled, "Let's hope you don't have the same weakness as The Gokan for naming."
He opened the box that held the hearing kanji, and took out a scroll. He handed it to me and said, "With this you are officially a member of the clan, Shin proudly and responsibly carry our name, and the clan will never fail you."
I nodded and received the parchment, my hands trembling.
"I will do it father, you will be proud, the clan will rise again."
"Now I am son, and together we will make the clan rise again."
We looked at each other for a few seconds, while smiling, but when I was about to open the parchment my dad snatched it from me.
"We have to go back Shin, your mom will be waiting for us," he said without seeing me, as he walked to the exit.
"DAD! Let me see the scroll," I shouted as I followed him.
I tried to take it, but he only moved it with his arm.
"Sorry Shin, but this was just part of the tradition, you can't learn it yet," he said to me as I chased after him.
"Then why did you give it to me," I said as he dodged the jump I took.
"As I told you it's tradition, besides I know you know what chakra means, but you haven't unlocked it yet son, you can't learn any jutsu like that, and as I told you you need to have the - Sensory Guardian- first to learn the jutsu."
Now I really stopped to think, he was right, I can't do any jutsu now, I need to control chakra first, and have the juinjutsu on the back of my neck.
I stared at dad, he just smiled, I got angry, crossed my arms and walked towards the house.
"Come on Shin, don't pout I thought you thought about it, after all you are a genius," he said to me.
I just got more annoyed and picked up the pace.
"Don't be angry, at least we will start your ninja training immediately, in a couple of months you will already have the -Sensory Guardian- and you can learn the jutsu, I will also teach you more jutsus."
Well that made me happier, but I still didn't talk to dad the whole way, he was being mean, I'm sure my mom will agree with me.

Pov Byu
On that night
I could not sleep. The guilt wouldn't let me.
I left the room avoiding waking Yumi. I left a garment with my scent on it so that my scent wouldn't fade, in case she woke up a little while I was gone.
I couldn't help but stop by Shin's room to check on him, but seeing him only made me feel more guilt.
I took a bottle of sake and went to the -Konoha Aviary-, I liked to go to the roof to think, besides the ANBU or policemen around the area wouldn't tell me anything.
On the way, I couldn't help but think of my father, in all the good and bad. How until the end his priority was the clan.
When I arrived I started drinking. I couldn't help but laugh at the irony, I'm not so different from my father after all. My brother may not know that part of me, but I know Yumi does, teaching him a Shin fire jutsu, one that I knew he would love, was not an oversight, it was planned.
My brother would say I didn't force anything, I just put the situation more in my favor, but I know that would only be half-truths.
From practicing shurikenjutsu in the house, talking to him about the hokage, teaching him jutsu like -Body Flicker-, everything was planned so that Shin would decline to be a ninja, I know that without this there was still a good chance that he would be a ninja, it was impossible to hide from him that we were.
Although I decided to avoid telling him about the clan as much as possible, because the responsibility and the feeling of belonging would leave Shin with no options. I know that in the end the reason I didn't tell him about the clan was more to tell myself that I was doing things differently, and not to feel like I was following in my father's footsteps.
In the end it was his decision, or so I want to believe, but I knew what his decision would be. There was no other choice.
I offered some liquor to heaven, for my father, now I understand the weight of being a leader, the weight of a legacy on your shoulders. In the end I can't help but feel that my duty to the clan won out, to my duty as a father.
I took a few more minutes to sink into my feelings of guilt.
And then I got up, no more time to suffer. I only allowed myself tonight to do so. I have duties to fulfill, to my family and to my clan.
I remembered what my father told me before he went to war, and gave me the position of leader.
‘Heavy is the position of a leader. Always someone drowning, trying to save himself to the last second, clinging to hope, believing that out of nowhere he will know how to swim, that maybe he will grow gills, or someone will rescue him, even if he is alone. The burden of leading is that, you no longer have hope, you cannot bet the lives of those who follow you on an unfounded faith, a leader makes his chances and never leaves anything to chance. Eliminate faith as long as you are a leader'.
