Chapter 5: Lore of Dofus

After parting with Naiz Keeholder, the young Masqueraider continued with his errands. As he crossed the bridge, he noticed a cemetery in the far south. Wasn't the second Fountain of Youth said to be found somewhere around there? Kryse decided he would check the place out for a while before delivering the recipe to Babblera. Kryse left the original path and headed towards the cemetery. As he neared the location, he saw a small fountain in the distance. Was this the second Fountain of Youth? Strange...he had thought it would be another large fountain, big enough to bathe in...but the fountain before him was basically a statue of a goddess with a basin of water. The water magically refilled every so often so it was near impossible for the fountain to be depleted. Obviously, from the looks of it, the fountain was used for drinking purposes. After checking around his surroundings in case a Chafer suddenly sprouted out from under him and attack him, he took a sip of the water. Miraculously, his fatigue was washed away and his bruises and scratches were all healed up. Kryse nodded in satisfaction and decided to head back to his errands.

Along the way, he came across another building. Kryse curiously peered through the cracks of the doorway and saw a lot of books. This must be either a bookstore or a library of some sort. As Kryse cautiously entered the building, an glasses wearing eagle beastman appeared and greeted him.

"Welcome to the Koobs Library! We have all kinds of books ranging from romance to adventure to even history." The eagle beastman introduced, "Oh, where are my manners, my name is Kreole...Master Kreole if you will."

"Hello Master Kreole, my name is Kryse Shadowclaw. You said you had books on history...do you have any on Dofus?"

"Hmm...Dofus? In fact, I believe I do not have one. However, I can narrate the important details of the creation of the Krosmoz and the history of the Age of Dofus...if you want.  If you don't have the time to listen, then you'll have to wait till you're in Amakna. They seemed to have a few good books involving this topic."

"I see. Then, I would like to listen to the history."

"Great, then come sit over here. The story is going to be long and it would be too tiresome to talk about it while standing like this, am I right?"

"True." Kryse nodded as he found a chair to sit in. Then, Master Kreole began telling the story of how the Krosmoz was created and how the Dofus was born which lead to the Age of Dofus.

..........

"Now, let's see...where to begin.... Ah, let's start from the beginning. It'll be easier that way. If you have any questions, do feel free to ask."

"Okay."

"In the years unknown, many significant events had occurred. In the beginning, in the dawn of time, there was nothing. Then, the Great Goddess Eliatrope and the Great Dragon appeared. Having been alone in the universe for a significant number of their early lives, they began to befriend each other and they soon started to dance with each other. With each dance, their friendship for each other grew until it blossomed into love and with each dance, their love continued to deepen. Finally, the Great Goddess Eliatrope danced a dance of courtship with the Great Dragon...hehe...there's no way it was just a dance if you know what I mean...hehe...*ahem*...anyways, moving on. Hmmm, where was I...ah yes! And through their dance, an egg was created...this egg was the entire universe...the Krosmoz. The Great Goddess Eliatrope, mother of the Eliatrope race, was the incarnation of Wakfu and the Great Dragon, father of the Eliatrope race, was the incarnation of Stasis."

"Wakfu and Stasis? What are those?"

"Wakfu is the energy of creation that is said to be always flowing and present in all things across the Krosmoz. Stasis, on the other hand, is the energy of destruction that opposed Wakfu and it was present in all things across the Krosmoz as well. Fun fact...did you know that if Wakfu stopped flowing, it would become Stasis. You didn't know right?"

"No."

"Well, now you know hehe. Anyways, from this union, the energy of creation and the energy of destruction became forever bonded with each other." Master Kreole paused as he sipped a cup of tea before continuing.

"At the extreme edges of the universe, Wakfu entered the dimensions through Incarnam where the souls were incarnated and Stasis entered the dimensions through Externam where the dead rests. There were other planes of existence that were created with the Krosmoz because, of obvious reasons, the Great Dragon and the Great Goddess were still dancing with each other. Anyways, in the outer region of the Krosmoz universe, there were a few layers...another plane of existence called Ingloriom and another plane of existence called Shustuft Crust. The Ingloriom plane was the residence of the first ten gods and the Shustuft Crust plane was the residence of the first ten demons."

"The first ten gods? The first ten demons? When did they appear?"

"The first ten gods along with the first ten demons were the first souls to incarnate into the Krosmoz. The first ten gods were Cra the Great Huntress, Ecaflip the Gamemaster, Eniripsa the Miracle Fairy, Enutrof the Flamboyant Golden Dragon, Feca the Protector, Iop the Lord of the Brave, Osamodas the Master of Beasts, Sadida the Doll Master, Sram the Lord of the Shadows, and Xelor the Guardian of the Divine Clock. They were the ten who gave new life to the World of Ten after the Eliatropes went extinct."

"Who were the first ten demons?"

"Hmm, we don't know all ten, but we do know one of them. His name is Rushu. Drunk with power, Rushu cunningly killed the other nine first demons and became the ruler of all other demons."

"I see, so he's the main reason our world is facing some difficulties what with the new rise in monsters and all."

"Yes, that's correct."

"How did the Eliatropes became extinct?"

"Whoa buddy, get a hold of yourself. I'll get to that soon. Anyways, some time later, the Great Goddess and the Great Dragon copulated with each other and the couple gave birth to the first six Eliatropes and their Dragon twins...apparently each Eliatrope would have his or her own Dragon counterpart. Now, ain't that something?"

"It is a bit unusual...."

"Right? Well, the Eliatropes were busy living in their world when...now this is the first documented time in history...in the year -11000, the Mechasms arrived on the Eliatrope planet and decided to live there. The two races coexisted peacefully with each other until nearly 800 years later when something bad occurred."

"Mechasms? Who are they?"

"The Mechasms were a mechanical race. Not much was know about them except that they declared a war against the Eliatropes and forced them off the planet."

"Why did they do that?"

"This was all due to the fault of that damned Qilby - one of the First-Born Eliatropes. In the year -10201, Qilby stole the Eliacube which was the youngest Mechasm Orgonax's heart. This action sparked the first war between the two races. After a year of battle, the surviving Eliatropes hid their children in a different dimension and the First-Born Eliatropes - also known as the council - escaped the planet via their ship Zinit. Thirty years later, the Eliatropes found a new world which they started living there in a colony of theirs called Vili. This new planet was the future World of Ten.

In the year -10100, one of the original six Eliatropes - Yugo - was pronounced the new king of the future World of Ten. The world was at peace for a hundred years until that dreaded idiot, Qilby, decided to reactivate the Eliacube and accidentally signaled Orgonax of their location. The council found out about this and they attacked Qilby who was aided by his dragon twin - Shinonome. In the process, Qilby lost his left arm and was subsequently imprisoned by king Yugo into the White Dimension...but unfortunately, king Yugo died in the process. As Orgonax came to attack, they were fended off but there were many casualties on both sides.

More than two thousand years had gone by and the ever dwindling Eliatrope race finally met their last days. It was at this time that one of the first ten gods, Osamodas, discovered the planet and witnessed the race's final moments. Osamodas and the other gods began breathing life into the empty planet and thus formally named the planet as the World of Ten. New souls that incarnate in Incarnam would later populate the World of Ten. Just like you, kid. You too incarnated here because you had heard of our peril from your dimension...and we thank you for that."

"No problem."

"Thanks anyways. Now, in the year -211, that was a very important time. The god Sadida, your god I believe, created ten dolls to seduce the ten primordial Dragons so that they will lay egg-like relics called Dofus."

"Like the eggs Bolgrot had in the Legend of Rykke Errel?"

"Yes, exactly so. That occurred in the year 130. Thus, six of the ten dolls succeeded in seducing six of the ten primordial Dragons and thus six Primordial Dofus were laid...this was how the Age of the Dofus began."

"Wait...how did we go from a negative year to a positive year? What happened there?"

"Ah, yes...it was sometime after the birth of the six Primordial Dofus. Xelor created the first Divine Clock based off of the pulsations he had felt from the Primordial Dofus. This was the official mark of the beginning of time and it was subtly named Year 0. The time could now be measured in months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Each month had a guardian protecting it and each hour had a demon watching over it."

"I see. So that's what happened."

"Now, here's a fun fact. You may or may not know but initially, Xelor wanted to divide the year into 11 months in order for consistency and simplicity. He planned to name a Protector for each of those months and call them the Protectors of the Months. However, the demon god Rushu forced Xelor to allow a twelfth month to come into existence in the Divine Clock by scratching the Clock with his claws and he appointed his most loyal and most trusted demon Djaul as the guardian of that month. And now, with the presence of demons, Xelor hired a group of 24 Demons to keep watch of each hour and they were subtly called the Hour Demons."

"Who were the Protector of the Months and who were the Hour Demons?"

"The Hour Demons did not have names...but they were nicknamed after the hour they represented...so I guess...I through XXIV."

"And as for the Protector of the Months, the original members were Solar - guard of the Order of Iop and Protector of the first Month Javian, Silvosse - the Master of Cuttings and Protector of Flovor, Menalt - founder of the Valiant Heart Order and Protector of Martello, Silouate - the Minotoror and Protector of Aperirel, Rosal - the Master of Flowers and Protector of Maysial, Sumens - Enutrof's Supporter and Protector of Junssidor, Hecate - the Mystifier and Protector of Jullier, Pouchecot - the Fruitcake...now ain't that a funny title...and Protector of Frauguctor, Raval - the Terrible...terrible looking face probably...and Protector of Septangel, Maimane - the Stabilizer and Protector of Octolliard, Brumaire - the Dark Bleeder...whoever made these titles suck...and Protector of Novamaire, and finally...Djaul - the Great Flounderer, Rushu's Loyal Follower, and Protector of Descendre...whew!"

"Wow that was a mouthful. Here, have some tea."

"Thanks. Now these were the original protectors. However, in the year 11, Solar was killed by Djaul and the Protector of Javian was replaced by Jiva the Valiant. In addition, in the year 26, Menalt died in combat during the battle of Crimson Dawn and he was replaced Ulgrude of Thunder."

"I see. It must have been a terrible battle to have even a few of the Protectors of the Months killed."

"It was indeed. All that occurred more than 600 years ago. Can you imagine it?"

"No, it's hard to imagine."

"Well, that wraps up for the lore of Dofus. Thank you for sitting here and listening so patiently to me talking."

"Don't mention it, it was interesting."

"That's good. Well, I'm sure you have other things to do. You should leave before the sun sets. Do come by and visit though." Master Kreole replied as he stood up and waved the young Masqueraider farewell. Kryse also stood up from his seat and bid farewell to the eagle beastman. He then set off to finish his errands.
