Myths from Garsuna: Theogony
Part 2: The New Rulers of Garsuna

Part 2: The New Rulers of Garsuna

Garsuna awoke to the thundering sound of splitting stone. The Maker of the World dropped onto its stone shell, unable to hold its own weight. Chosrgel had thrown the planet of Garsuna into a series of ground shattering earthquakes that would forever change its shape.

The world of Garsuna began shattering like glass. Whirlpools formed in the oceans as even the bottoms of the seas broke apart. Almost all of Garsunan life was obliterated. When Chosrgel’s earthquake finally settled, days later, the land on Garsuna had been split into three distinct continents, Stellrend to the north, Lamia to the south, and Glotpon in between the two. The Maker of the World, Garsuna, had been trapped on Glotpon, unable to traverse the water due to its rocky composition.

Garsuna began to ravenously clean the only part of its planet that it could access. The commotion yet again irritated the Maker of the Sky, Apena. Ruo, Maker of Life, saw the great glass dragon descend from the heavens to meet Garsuna and followed Apena’s trajectory to Glotpon's tallest peak, Mount Caxpa. The other Makers, Qentin, Henric, Ninecht, and Natala began repopulating Garsuna, trying to recover their losses.

“Chosrgel has launched an attack unlike any other,” Garsuna frantically explaining to Apena, “it seeks to destroy all we have built.”

“And again, the Maker of Chaos fails to make itself apparent. I watched the assault from high above, desperately trying to locate its culprit.”

“Not many of the terrestrial creatures have survived,” Ruo added, “they could not flee such an attack. They were completely vulnerable to Chosrgel's whim.”

“Then we must make them with quicker wit,” Garsuna demanded. “If we lose any more of Garsuna's sentinels, we will be left with nothing.”

“Garsuna,” Apena spoke slowly as it stared at the Maker of the World with its fiery, eyes, “I shall grant your planet with three other Makers to aid in your hunt. I request three Ruonian carcasses.”

Garsuna and Ruo went to unearth three of the now extinct Ruonains while Apena flew off towards its suns. Apena returned with four solar embers from the second sun, ready to reignite the Ruonians.

Apena first made Tanpk, Maker of Control. Tanpk became responsible for instilling directives into the terrestrial creatures of Garsuna that would give them the necessary instincts to survive. Second to be made was Hetes, Maker of Tools. Hetes would be responsible for creating new niches for creatures with increased ingenuity, such as sharper claws for digging or larger horns for protection. Third and last of the Makers to be created by Apena was Ratu, Maker of Fire. Ratu was made as a failsafe and was given two life fires instead of one.

“These Makers will satisfy all of Garsuna’s needs,” Apena started, “now with the eleven of us, Chosrgel is as good as found. However, this is goodbye, my dear companion. The creatures of your planet, Garsuna, depend so heavily on the two suns that I mustn't be distracted in their journey across the horizon.”

“Your assistance in shaping my world has been most appreciated, the Makers will not fail you!”

“I expect that they won’t,” a menacing grin spread over Apena's maw, “and one last thing. Do try to keep it down, I require peace and quiet to haul Garsuna’s satellites.”

Garsuna and Apena did not meet again for thousands of years. In the meantime, Ruo, Tanpk, and Hetes began creating a plethora of life forms. Ninecht, worked behind the scenes to protect the health of the terrestrial creatures while Natala maintained their numbers by ensuring their procreation. Henric, Maker of Weather, worked with Qentin, Maker of Plants, to provide vegetation for the creatures to eat. Some of the creatures, pushed by Hetes, developed sharper teeth and stronger stomachs to allow for the feeding of meat. This vastly increased the diversity of life on Garsuna and split the life forms into predator and prey.

Garsuna began to tire quicker and quicker, its purpose of shaping the world no longer a priority. The Maker of the World carved a home for itself deep within Mount Caxpa, above the lair of Kigulbisis. Here, hidden within its cave, Garsuna slumbered for most of its life, protected by the Maker of Fire, Ratu. The other Makers continued their deligently, hoping that would one day they would find Chosrgel.

For the first time in Garsuna’s existence, Apena came to Garsuna without warning or cause. Apena dove from the skies above in a hurricane of wind, startling and disrupting the proceedings of the planet. The Maker of the Sky was not able to find the slumbering Garsuna.

“Apena!” Ruo hailed, catching the searching glass dragon, “we never thought that you would again bless us with your holy presence…”

“We have been played as fools!” Apena snapped.

“What do you mean? Chosrgel has been gone so long the Maker of Chaos has been forgotten, believed to have left before being found.”

“Of course it has left!” I have found evidence of Chosrgel on the moons, the suns, and the other planets. I must speak with Garsuna. It must tell me all it knows about this Chosrgel.”

Ruo led Apena to Garsuna’s cave. Ratu greeted the other two Makers as they approached, calling them by their newly appointed epithets, Mighty Creator Apena and Foreman of Creation Ruo. The three Makers roused the Maker of the World to inform it of Apena’s newfound acquaintance with Chosrgel.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“So, Chosrgel has abandoned Garsuna to cause torment elsewhere,” Garsuna spoke slowly in its drowsy state, “then we have succeeded!”

“We have failed!” Apena contradicted, “we did not defeat Chosrgel we did not contain it. We let it out, free to make chaos as it pleases.”

“What would you have a Maker of Worlds do?” My planet is safe, that is all that matters to me.”

“Your planet is safe because of me!” Apena growled with a puff of smoke, “my Makers are the ones that control Garsuna! Now they are needed elsewhere.”

Garsuna roused and stood as tall as it could on its hundreds of arms, towering over all of the other Makers. Garsuna itself wasn’t moving, but the planet of Garsuna began to rumble gently and loose stones began to fall from Garsuna’s cave onto the Makers.

“The course of my planet has always been decided by me, how dare a Maker of Sky claim dominion over worlds.”

Garsuna’s arms began to go limp, and its planet calmed. Ruo and Ratu exchanged nervous glances as the original two Makers argued.

“If you remove the Makers from Garsuna, I have one more request for them,” Garsuna added in a calmer voice.

“That is?” Apena hissed.

“The Makers are to craft beings that do as they do. I cannot keep Garsuna safe from Chosrgel alone.”

“So be it,” Apena turned to vacate Garsuna’s cave, “I shall return later for the Makers of my own creation!”

“Take me to Tanpk and Hetes,” Garsuna demanded to Ruo, “there is much work to be done.”

Ruo, Garsuna, and Ratu went to Tanpk and Hetes who were located in a volcano south of Garsuna’s cave, known as the Forge of Life, where they worked tirelessly, day in and day out. When the Maker of the World, the Maker of Life, and the Maker of Fire entered the volcano, there were dozens of caged creatures both dead and alive within its pits.

“Ruo, you’re back,” Tanpk said, “we finished up those prototypes, as requested. Just need a little bit of your touch to get them going...”

“I’m afraid our time here is coming to an end; we have but one final task…”

“You are to make your replacements,” Garsuna said, cutting Ruo off and taking the lead, “to control the forces of Garsuna in your absence. Apena will be taking its Makers from my planet, and I will need sentinels to continue the work the Makers do for my world. Your final task is to create the new deities that will rule this world."

“They shall be beings that can traverse and conquer any terrain here on Garsuna,” Ruo began, “land, air, and water.”

“The deities will be made with the purest of directives,” Tanpk agreed, “to create a force on Garsuna to capture Chosrgel...”

“Each of them with power equal to the Makers,” Hetes added, “contained within vessels that I create.”

“It is decided then,” Garsuna concluded, “Ruo, you will create the strongest creatures, able to conquer any terrain and harness the powers of the Makers. Tanpk, you will give them the instincts to run Garsuna, to always be hunting for Chosrgel. And Hetes, you will give the deities the tools they need to access the primordial forces of Garsuna.”

And with that, Garsuna and Ratu left Ruo, Tanpk, and Hetes to craft the deities of Garsuna. The Maker of Life used the body of Garsuna’s strongest land mammal, a bipedal ape called a cambiko. Ruo added wings from a drake to the cambiko’s frame and lowered its muscle density, giving the creature the ability to fly. Finally, Ruo added gills to the six-foot, winged apes, allowing them to dominate the seas. Ruo made eight of these deity husks to house the essential deities necessary for Garsuna's operation. Tanpk spoke the deities' directives into their minds as Ruo added slight alterations to each of their carcasses. Hetes crafted the vessels that would hold the Maker’s powers, only able to be used by a being as strong as the deities.

“Make a force worthy of capturing Chosrgel!” Tanpk repeated in a dissonant whisper into the ear's of the deities.

Tanpk’s directives normally would include much more detail, but for the deities' directive, Tanpk didn’t exactly outline their every move. Instead, Tanpk allowed for broader possibilities and outcomes within the behaviors of the deities. That is when Atma formed, the Maker of Thought. Atma became the embodiment of electricity, the medium for thought within the brain and resembles as such, a form of pure white lightning.

After Ruo, Tanpk, and Hetes had completed their parts in the creation of the deities, they fetched Garsuna from its slumber before igniting them into life. Garsuna looked over the structures of the eight deities with great contemplation.

“Explain them to me, each of them,” the World Maker demanded.

Ruo nodded all three of its heads and obliged, thoroughly explaining each of the deities as follows.

"First is Isaa, deity of the seas, given the eyes of a fish to better command the oceans of Garsuna. Second is Sab, deity of the soil, granted a third to observe all the happenings across Garsuna’s land. Third is Haboo, deity of the winds, with wings made larger than any other deity as well as an extra set of smaller wings. Fourth is Noies, deity of love, given several female reproductive systems and is able to birth several offspring at a time. Fifth is Mahon, deity of vegetation, given roots in place of her hair follicles allowing her to propagate plant life anywhere. Sixth is Foal, deity of the hunt, given an extra set of arms, totaling in four, allowing her to use the tools Hetes has crafted for her. Seventh is Sego, deity of time and doesn't readily appear to have any additions and resembles a normal, thin cambiko with wings. But, infused with Sego’s body is anti-matter, allowing Sego to be unharmed by the effects of controlling time and space. Eighth and last of the essential deities is Xle, deity of healing, given three sets of breasts, a byproduct of being infused with excessive amounts of Ninecht’s Inma."

The deities all stood wielding the tools Hetes crafted for them in their cold, lifeless hands.

Garsuna approved of the creation of the deities and Ruo called Apena down to Garsuna. The Maker of the Sky tied all of the Makers it had crafted to its whiskers, ready to haul them like the glass dragon hauls the suns and moons. Apena carried Ruo, Tanpk, Hetes, Ratu, and Natala into the domain of the sky. Apena left Ninecht, as it had become to spread out to be collected into one form again. Kigulbisis remained sealed within its lair. Garsuna stayed in its own world, unable to leave and Qentin, being made of Garsuna's arms, was also tethered to its planet, unable to leave. Atma and Henric were both spawned by the forces of Garsuna and thus they too remained stuck in Garsuna.

The world of Garsuna entered a new age as the controlling forces were passed from the fourteen Makers to the eight deities.
