Mystic Quest

Chapter 24

After a good meal, the group of now five started the journey again. The mood was high; laughters echoing as they all shared jokes. They bantered good naturally, Myrdryn showing how fun loving he was, infecting the others.

They also battled demons; but with the strength they acquired between all of them, they made quick work of hem. No high level demon bothered them; and Myrdryn commented that the demons didn't feel the necessity of bothering them now that the group was getting close to the den of the demon's King.

“So it is the demon king our goal?”

Myrdryn blinked at Yuna. “Oh. It's true that I never explained exactly what you have to do.”

“Indeed.” Lyria added with a deadpan.

Myrdryn mock glared at her before explaining. “Well, it is kind of simple in a way. If the demon King is killed or trapped, all demons are forced to go back into their dimension. Basically, you have to try and kill him.”

“And do you know why the demon King went mad?” Lyria wondered.

Myrdryn shook his head. “It is a real mystery.”

And with these new informations they kept on going. Yuna and Solarys walked hand in hand; and couldn't help but smirk as they noticed the many subtle glances Lyria and Myrdryn exchanged when the other wasn't looking.

Emerys noticed too, and a sigh escaped her lips. The dragon heard it and his lips curled into a smile. He slowed his pace to be closer to the magician, glancing at him. Then, he whispered so only Emerys could hear,

“Just be patient.”

Emerys stared at the Emperor as the golden haired winked and quickened his pace again to ruffle Lyria's hairs. At first he felt happy that the other male would take the time to reassure someone he had just met, even if Emerys was a friend of the dragon's ward, and then something he read about dragons came back to his mind.

It was said that dragons could sometimes foresee. Legends told that it would have a been an honour, if a dragon accepted to reveal a part of someone's future.

Emerys beamed. Myrdryn glanced back as if sensing the magician's gratitude, smiling faintly and nodding. The dragon didn't feel the need to tell the magician how soon he would meet his love.

It was maybe one hour later that Emerys slowed down, glancing around with a thoughtful face. Yuna was the first to notice; and he stopped, making everyone stop too.

“Emerys?” Yuna called, curious.

The magician smiled faintly. “It's just... my village, Festivae, is just there. One or two hours toward the east and we'll be there.”

Solarys grinned and clapped her hands. “It doesn't pull us away from our path! You want to see your mother and father, right?”

Emerys glanced down with a blush. “Yeah...”

His friends all smiled kindly. The magician was the only one present who still had a family; and they felt happy for him. For his part, Emerys was torn between joy and a strange shame that he might hit them in the face with his family.

Emerys startled when he felt a tug at his arm. He hadn't even notice Lyria coming at him. “Come on, let's go!”

The magician looked at her, then at everyone else. They had a certain understanding in their gazes; and he realized there and then that he had been stupid to believe they would be hurt by his own happiness.

They were all friends; and one happiness was everyone happiness.

Though, Emerys felt half dread and half elation as he noticed the faint smirk Myrdryn showed for a split second before turning it into a grin. He glanced at him suspiciously as they all started walking again, but the golden eyed only looked at Lyria.

Ah well, Emerys realized that whatever had made Myrdryn smirk, he would surely know sooner or later. He couldn't tell exactly why he knew that; but it was almost as if his mind had recalled something helpful, but didn't bother to share with the magician.

“We can also buy supplies, since it seems like it will be our last stop before our final battle.” Emerys commented instead.

Lyria hummed, then added, “And maybe we could stay there a bit and relax?”

Emerys' eyes lit up. “Oh! It's perfect, I am positive that there is a festival at this time of the year!”

Solarys bounced up and down. “We can have some fun!”

Yuna grinned. “It will do good to all of us.”

Myrdryn raised a fist into the air. “It's settled then! Festivae, here we come!”

To be continued...
