Danger

Daryl ‘Dad’ Banderford shook his head groggily as he came to his senses. Words slipped from his mouth, “Wha?” Wasn’t he just falling? How was he laying on the ground already? Why didn’t he get hurt? Even his leg felt better. Shouldn’t it still be twisted and in pain. His boot had tripped him and with the torn ligament it should be stabbing him with embers of agony.

“DAD HELP!” Came the panicked scream of Cindy and instantly his eyes shot open, his face swiveled to look at the young girl. A monstrous beast started to charge at her across the ground. Her face was plastered with fear and panic. Her knees shook in terror as if she was rooted to the spot.

Daryl was to his feet in an instant and charged across the distance to put himself between the Boar and his daughter. He had to protect her with everything he had. The ground felt like it shook beneath his feet as he ran. That text box popped up into his view as the corner of his vision filled in with stat bars and information. He shook his head and got rid of the notifications.

Nothing mattered more than saving his daughter in this moment as the world melted away from his focus as none of it mattered more than the beast and Cindy. His heart started to pound like a taiko drum being hammered to a beat only known to Daryl.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Thousands of questions raced through his mind as he ignored them all and put himself in place. He would hold there and keep Cindy safe no matter what. Thousands of hours of karate flowed through his muscles as he assumed Fudo dachi. His arms preparing for a simple Gyaku-zuki, a reverse punch. It was basic but Daryl had never thought that he would fight a wild animal ever in his life. The world slowed to a crawl as a blue text box flashed into his vision.

“It seems you would like to use a skill. Would you like to use ‘Titanic Blow lvl 2’?” A strange voice echoed in his mind.

Daryl shook his head and tried to clear out the words as he tried to focus his mind. There was no time to read now. Danger was at hand and even though his mind had sped up like when he was in a pivotal moment of his sparring it was still a waste of focus.

The box popped back up in the center of his vision obscuring the charging boar. “It seems you would like to use a skill. Would you like to use ‘Titanic Blow lvl 2’?”

‘FINE!’ He screamed in his head trying to disperse the message.

‘Titanic Blow: Spend any amount of stamina to add to the damage of a strike, either with a weapon or with a bare handed punch. For every level of this skill, multiply the damage by another amount. Current level is 2, increase damage by a multiple of 2.’

“How much stamina would you like to spend?”

‘ALL OF IT! NOW GO AWAY!’ Daryl mentally yelled again.

Then he felt power flow through my body. His body stretched to its limit.
