Cindy felt herself coalesce from light and stood in a field. A town with no walls lay in the distance. She looked down at herself and touched what she was wearing. A light tunic made of rough material lay under her fingertips. Her legs were covered with some shorts cinched to her waist by a rope. Her feet had intricate sandals that wrapped around her ankles to secure themselves and a small straw hat on her head. She felt her pointed ears with her fingers and smiled wide.

“I’m an elf, I’m in a new world! And I have a wish!” Cindy clapped and danced in place wiggling about in a happy moment.
Her mind raced as she opened her mouth. She needed to learn quickly, “Menu.” Nothing, “Uhhhh Status?” Again nothing. “Help?”
‘Hello, welcome to Gaia. How may I help you today?’ A voice echoed in her mind as a blue pop up window filled the corner of her vision.
“How do I see my skills and abilities?”
“To see your current abilities say ‘Abilities’, to see spells, say ‘Runes’.”
“Abilities.”
‘You have the following abilities thanks to your Commoners Tunic: Meditation lvl 1. Meditation allows the user to rest and double mana recovery while staying still. Commoners Shorts: Bounding Step lvl 1: Spend 20 Stamina to increase speed by 10%. Commoners Hat and sandals share the same skill. Skill level combined. Skill: Resistance lvl 2 Stats count as 20% higher to resist skills.’ The voice cut out now that it was done.
Spells huh, Gaia had explained it a little to her. “Runes.”
‘You have access to the following runes thanks to your gear, Effects: Recovery, Force. Projection: Bolt. Expenditure: Pulse.’
So she could fire bolts of force a single time. How much mana would it cost. “Force Bolt Pulse!” A ball of blue mana formed in her palm and she pointed it at the ground. It blasted out and the ground puffed up and made a fist sized hole in the ground. Her mana drained by ten points. With fascination she watched as the ground seemed to shift and glimmer as it returned to its usual shape.
‘Damage dealt to an inanimate object: 15 points of force damage.’
Cindy smiled, she knew her cheat skill would let her keep all the runes. The menu system showed that it was gear that gave access to runes and skills. So if she was going to be able to learn more she would just need to get more gear.
Now for her first of three wishes, “I wish my mom was here with me! I want her to be right here with me!” She wouldn’t have to miss her mom anymore.
It took a few moments and then the light started to fill in a new figure. She was a short woman, with long black hair and brown eyes. The figure was just as Cindy remembered. She was wearing much the same clothes as Cindy and looked around, not with the warm eyes that Cindy had missed so much the last few weeks. Instead they were cold and calculating. She looked down at Cindy.
“Momma?” Cindy looked up at her with hope surging in her heart.
Her smile sent shivers down her spine but filled her hopeful mind with warmth. “Cindy, where are we?”
It was so hard to talk, with a meekness Cindy wouldn’t have expected she spoke “We are in a new world Momma, we are going to save it. Together.” Cindy reached up a hand to her mother hoping beyond hope to hold her hand once more. To feel it be warm and not cold. To see her vibrant with life and not wasting away in her final days. The beeping of machines filled her mind for a moment until her mother’s hand wrapped around hers.
It was warm, soft and full of life. Cindy felt tears well in her eyes as she gripped her mother as tightly as her little hand could. Momma looked around the horizon and spotted the town. “Let’s go to town. I’m sure we can learn more about what is going on over there. Are you ready Cindy?”
“Aren’t you gonna call me by my nickname Momma?” Hopeful and happy tears rolled down her cheeks. The wish had worked, she wouldn’t have to save this world alone. She wouldn’t have to be without her mom again.
The woman looked away, hiding a frown and a dark glower on her face, “Come on Badger. Let’s go.”
They walked towards the town. Cindy looked with wonder upon the mother she had missed so much. This new world was already great. However, some part of her knew something was wrong.
