Prologue

In a certain school a 16 year old law abiding student was looking down a window with a relaxed expression. The scene of birds flying towards the horizon and the pedestrians walking down the streets calmed his heart. Thinking of the game he played last night, he smiled. How wonderful it would be if I was born or even transported in a world like that. This thought passed through his mind.

“Kuuukkk!”

“Gray, I’m teaching right now. Don’t treat me like how you treat the other teachers”

“Don't be mean Stella. You could get sued for throwing a chalk at a student you know? Oh the pain!”

Rubbing my forehead I looked at my teacher with a pained face that was close to crying. Her black hair, blue eyes and small stature could make certain people feel goose bumps all over their body and the look she gives when she gets irritated could also make other people kneel, but as I was not one of these perverts, these had no effect on me. Yes, because I’m a gentleman and not a pervert I only find it cute. I only find it cute okay!

With a strained face, my teacher, Stella looked at me as if looking at an insect. Finally after a few moments, she avoided eye contact and sighed.

“Just listen properly when I’m teaching”

“Will do”

Nodding my head, I showed my confirmation with a beaming smile, earning yet another sigh. Turning back, Stella continued writing on the whiteboard with a marker while spouting some gibberish words about the upcoming exam.

“Pssst!”

“…”

“I said pssst! Hey look at me!”

To my side, an annoying guy with blonde hair and a stupid smile poked me and whispered while occasionally making sure that our teacher was not looking this way.

“Can you keep it down, can’t you see I’m listening”

“Huh? Weren’t you just staring off into space a moment ago?

“What did you say Christophe? I can’t hear you”

After a few more rounds of whispering, Stella then finally looked at the talking machine gun and a certain picture perfect student smiling and looking intently at the whiteboard, as if trying to take in all the information.

“Christophe, get out from this room this instant”

A chilling cold pervaded the room and assailed the pitiful student next to me. Making him shiver uncontrollably, ahhh, this is the reason why I stopped talking.

Walking out of the room with lifeless steps, Christophe walked out followed by Stella into the office.

The moment she stepped foot outside and closed the door, the people in the room turned a 180 degree in attitude.

“Finally I can relax”

A chestnut haired colored athletic looking young girl stretched her hands towards the air and giggled. Her seat was next to the now empty seat where Christophe once sat. Her name was Serena and she's the school’s fastest runner. If only she had good grades, allowing her to enter the interschool tournaments, she would’ve probably won all the way to the nationals.

“Hehehe, too bad Christophe was sacrificed. Oh well, a sacrifice is needed once in a while”

In the seat in front, a tall and muscular guy with dirty blonde hair that screamed the word bully laughed light heartedly. Most people would think that he was a bad person because of his appearance. Though once you get to know him, you’ll find out that he has a good heart. His name is Bryan and is the former football supestar of our school.

“Hey Gray you better make up with Christophe ok?”

Next to the laughing gorilla, a bespectacled timid looking girl with short black hair walked next to me. Her name was Dorothy and is the sister of the smartest student in our grade. Despite her timid and smart looking appearance, she is actually not that timid and is actually the one with the lowest grades in our class. It’s not that she was dumb, she is actually quite smart, knowing lots of trivia. Too bad the school does not take this into account when counting grades. Also this might be unrelated but she is what one would call a fujoshi. Someone who enjoys male to male bond if you know what I mean.

“Don’t worry, I’ll buy him some snacks later”

These are all my idiotic but fun classmates. Were all in the lowest section in middle school and are also nicknamed ‘The Dropouts’. Honestly I’m not sure who started this name calling but once I saw him, I’ll make sure he gets one thing correct. We may be close to being expelled in school due to our grades, but at least were not expelled yet. They should only start calling us dropouts when we repeat a year or get expelled or something.

The moment footsteps echoed on the corridor. We all kept silent and sat upright and looked at our textbooks with serious expressions.

The one who walked in first is a teary-eyed Christophe followed by a black haired girl, sorry what I meant was young woman. The teary eyed student then walked towards his seat and wiped the tears on his face while the young woman looked at all of us with a tired expression before sighing and continuing the lesson.

This young woman that looked like a defiant young girl is not only cute and terrifying at the same time. But also the kindest person I’ve met. Even though we were an annoying bunch, she still persevered and taught us on all subject after school even when she doesn’t get paid for overtime.

The other teachers just scoffed at us and talked amongst themselves that we had no chance of graduating and will get expelled soon enough. But she just ‘convinced’ us to go and attend her after school lessons. Of course at first we were hesitant and skipped a couple of lessons. But then she looks for us the next day and forces us to attend her lessons whether we like it or not.

The other students laughed at us saying we were unlucky but I would say that they were wrong. We were not unlucky but lucky. Lucky enough to meet someone who guides us even during hard times even when we're not related by blood.

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing…”

I looked at this defiant looking girl and smiled. I’m sure the others also feel endless gratitude to this adorable existence. If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have been friends and stayed for so long in this school anyway.

“Is that so?”

With a suspicious expression she looked at me for a few seconds before telling us to turn the next page and explained the words that were difficult to understand. Everyone thought this was going to be another normal day, but that was not to be. That day, an unforgettable event happened in school.

“Wha- what!”

“*shrieks*”

“Everyone under your desks now!”

Stella’s shout brought us to reality. Following her words, we crawled under our desks. We thought she would do so as well but instead she started to run towards the door with an agitated expression. The strength of the earthquake was probably magnitude 7, making it nearly impossible to run so she tripped a couple of times.

“Stella wait! Where are you going!”

Jumping away from under the desk, I grabbed Stella’s slender hand and stopped her from taking another step.

“What are you doing?! Get under your desk right now!”

“What are you saying?! Shouldn’t you hide under your desk as well?!”

“Don’t you understand?! I have to make sure that the others are alright!”

Pulling her hand away, she glared at me while gritting her teeth.

“Teacher!”

“Stop her Gray!”

She tried to go past me but I just moved to the side stopping her advance. I was about to walk towards her to force her to go under her desk when I noticed her eyes opening wide with shock.

She ran towards me and pushed. The power she used was disproportionate to her body. Stumbling down towards the ground, a loud bang exploded in the place I was in a second ago. After a moment of shock, I finally understood what happened.

““Teacher!””

Even when under the threat of something falling on them, my classmates still ran towards our teacher and benefactor. Standing up with shaky legs, I also walked closer while holding my breath.

“Ste…lla”

What laid before me was a young girl with black hair and blue eyes with blood flowing out on her forehead and left leg. Beside her lay a huge and a couple of small boulder looking material that was previously part of the second floor.

“…I’m fine”

She smiled wryly and looked at me in the eye.

“It’s not your fault”

These were the words she spoke before a huge distortion appeared around us.
