Chapter 2

“What? Dorothy, you leveled up!”

“Mmmm”

She merely nodded her head and used the “Minor Heal” skill on Stella once again.

“Feel anything different?”

“I got dizzy at first, probably because I leveled up or because I used too much mana. When I woke up and checked my status. It told me I leveled up”

I see, so using your skills can make one level up huh. I’m not sure if one can level up if you have no one to use it on though. I guess experiments are necessary huh.

“Oh, one more thing” Spoke Dorothy “I got some bonus stat points too”

“Stat points?”

My eyes sparkled like stars as I asked this question. These are stat points! If one has enough the one can even wipe out an entire army alone!

“How many?”

“Two. The bonus stats is 2 just so you know. Oh, also all my stats increased by one” Said Dorothy.

“Hoh? Which stats did you add them on?” I asked with genuine interest.

“I placed them all on magic power so now my magic power is ten now”

Wait, her magic power is nine? But six plus three equals nine. But she says she has ten. Doesn’t that mean she already had seven magic power stat points since the beginning?

“Guys, I just noticed something groundbreaking”

I got their attention so I continued speaking with a smug grin.

“We all have different stat points!”

“…”

“…”

Even though I just told them something amazing, they just stayed silent and looked at me as if I was an idiot.

“We already know Sherlock” spoke Dorothy as she looked at me with eyes of pity.

“Gahahaha! What an idiot!” Laughed Bryan.

“What did you think? We all had the same stats. Fuu! What a joke!” Spoke Serena.

“Hehehe, as expected from our class idiot!” Said the real class’ idiot.

“All right all right. I’m an idiot” I sighed while putting my hands in the air as a sign of defeat. “Her complexion has become better huh?”

“Yeah, I’ve already used another three “Minor Heal” on her. At this rate we wouldn’t even need to ask the other’s for help!” Beamed Dorothy. “She should be somewhat healed tomorrow morning if I just continued using this skill repeatedly until then”

“Dorothy, don’t push yourself…” Spoke Serena in a worried tone.

“Don’t worry, I won’t” Replied Dorothy.

“All right then! Let’s have a feast as a celebration!” As expected from our class’ idiot. He got the mood going.

That night no one slept. We all chatted all night and got our personalities before this all happened. We all chatted of what we would do once we all reached high levels.

We also found out that each person has different shop points required for different skills. For example Bryan can buy skills that are used physically and yet need to use more shop points on magic related skills while Dorothy is the complete opposite. The prices of the skills also increase by 10 percent each time you bought a different skill. You could also upgrade each skill up to 10 levels. Even if you level up, it seems you still won’t get shop points. The only way to earn them is probably to kill monsters.

While we all continued our conversation with the occasional laugh, Dorothy never forgot the primary reason we all stayed up. She kept using the “Minor Heal” skill and leveled up by another two levels. She then placed all her bonus stat points on the magic power stat so Stella’s rate of recovery was even faster than expected. In the morning Stella woke up muddle headed.

“Guugh…”

“Stella!”

I was the first to noticed and pounced. While I was still in midair I was hit in the side by Christophe. Although it was because I was so emotional because of the situation, everyone looked at me as if I was an insect. Heck, Dorothy and Serena even spat on the ground.

“Was my method of teaching incorrect” Stella mumbled to herself as she shook her head “No, I guess people are born with innate personalities that can’t be removed”

“…”

I knew I was partly at fault for them thinking of me that way. In the past I might’ve read a couple of certain magazines in school. But isn’t their way their treating me just wrong?

For the next couple of minutes, I tried to explain the misunderstanding. Realizing that the conversation was going nowhere, I switched the topic and explained everything to Stella from the beginning.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

“I see… stat points huh?” Mumbled Stella as she placed her hand on her still bandaged forehead.

“Teacher, what stats did you get” Asked Christophe

“Well, let’s see…” After looking at the air for a moment, Stella spoke. “Just the same as Dorothy, though I’m slightly higher than her in all stats”

This news made Dorothy dejected, making her smile wryly as she used another “Minor Heal” skill on Stella.

“Heh~ then what about your shop points?” This time I was the one that asked.

After a few seconds Stella replied.

“I have high affinity for magic related skills. Though I can’t say the same for the physical related ones”

After telling me that, I gave her the food given yesterday evening. At first she hesitated to eat it and suggested that we just take ask for another one since it was cold. But after we all explained that she needs to get as much energy as she can right away. She ate the food reluctantly and promised us that she will eat yet another meal when the food for breakfast was given.

Just when we all had a peace of mind, sounds of crying, shouting and footstep echoed from the hallway all the way to our room.

“I’m going to go check” Spoke Bryan

“No” I shook my head “No matter how I look at this. It’s not normal”

With furrowed eyebrows Bryan asked. “Then what do you suggest?”

“I suggest we all check it out except for Stella and Dorothy. If we are really transported in another world then it wouldn’t be impossible if we were attacked by monsters. Besides…” With sweat beading down on my forehead I continued “This is a good chance to level up right? We can’t just let Dorothy be the one to level up now can we?”

Just when Stella was about to open her mouth, I immediately ran down the hallway towards where the noise was loudest.

Most of the other students should have no means to fight back right now… Only those who didn’t buy the “Minor Heal” skill can afford to buy the combat orientated ones.

All the way outside, students and even the faculty members of the school ran in the opposite direction I was running to.

After reaching the door outside, what greeted me was a battle between greed and survival. The fight was currently at a stalemate, with their side slowly getting the upper hand. On the ground corpses of humans and goblins alike had frozen arrows poking on their body, burning, crushed, pierced, etc. littered the school ground.

The monsters they were fighting were a large group of goblins wearing nothing but rags and using branches as makeshift weapons while the people on our side just used their hands, knives that probably taken from the kitchen, and magic. When a goblin falls, those that use nothing but their hands usually takes the goblin’s weapon and use them because of their longer reach. Though some of them don’t since it seems they took weaponless skills. I should probably add that those who used magic, could only cast a few spells before retreating with bated breaths. It seems that the usage of skills espeecially magic costs a lot of stamina.

Although the students and teachers who are currently fighting with the goblins have little to no cooperation, the goblins were even more so as some of them even hit their allies when they try to escape.

“Gray!” shouted Christophe as they run towards me.

“Listen, you’ve guys read a couple of novels right? In a society filled with danger, what would the leaders do? Wouldn’t they turn their rule into dictatorship?” I didn’t even let them open their mouth as I continued explaining “If we get strong and earn some merits. We probably won’t be treated like losers then”

Although they seem to be hesitating, it seems my persuasion had some effect. Looking towards the side, now our defeat is becoming more obvious.

“Come on, let’s join them. We’ll lose at this point. Besides, isn’t this a good chance to level up and earn some shop points?”

Before Christophe, Serena and Bryan could speak, I continued talking.

“…Fine”

Finally with some hesitation, Chris was the first to give up.

“All right all right”

Bryan and Serena did not speak but merely nodded their head, showing their agreement with resolution in their faces.

After nodding my head twice, we then ran and headed towards the battlefield and picked our skill.

“Are you sure you are buying the skill ‘Body enhancement’ for 100 shop points?” Asked the system in a womanly voice.

“Yes”

The moment I said that, information was transmitted to my brain. I didn’t feel any pain, but the feeling of something invading your body is quite unpleasant.

It seemed, the three of them also bought the skills they wanted. With thumping hearts we then headed towards one of the nearest weapon available. The moment I took a nearby meter long branch and was about to look at what the others picked, a goblin jumped towards me wielding a slightly smaller branch of mine.

Dodging to the left, I then quickly hit him at the side of the side of the head while activating my skill. The moment the wooden club hit his skull, the sound of something cracking caused the other nearby goblins to notice. With angry shouts they then pounced.

“Damn”

Preparing to run away, an unexpected savior then appeared.

“Taunt!”

The moment these words were released, every goblin in a 10 meter radius then ran towards a shocked Bryan. Running to the side with the goblins in tow, knife after knife were then thrown by Serena. I didn’t know where she took it from, probably from some of the dead corpses of the students or teachers. Wow, this girl is scary.

“Gray, what are you doing?! Kill them!” shouted Bryan

“All right! Coming!”

With the help of the “Body Enhancement” skill, I ran towards a nearby frenzied goblin and hit him at the back of the head. After he fell with a thud, I then ran to my next target. After half a minute all the goblins that were chasing Bryan were all killed by Serena, me, and a few others who joined.

“Gueeeh!”

“What the hell…”

Our side was now on the winning side. Goblins began fleeing from a blonde youth wielding a kitchen knife. The moment one fell down, another would be targeted. This caused the goblins to push the others to the side and trampled those who tripped, hoping that they would slow the monster down.

After all the goblins reached the forest, the youth then sighed and waved towards us with a beaming smile. Blood covering his face and clothes.

“Hey guys, I leveled up!” shouted Christophe as he laughed and ran towards our direction.

“What was that…” Asked Serena with a sweat filled face.

“What was what?” Asked Christophe back while tilting his head.

“You know… that” Replied Serena.

“Huh? Oh you mean that” With a face stuck with realization he continued “It’s called ‘Blood Trance’. You guys should buy it next”

“Blood trance?” Repeated Bryan

If I remember correctly, after searching the catalog last night, ‘Blood Trance’ is an expensive skill costing 20,000 shop points. Though it differs from person to person, being able to buy one with only 100 shop points is quite a blessing.

“*whistles* quite a nice skill you got there”

“Hehehe, thanks, your “Taunt” skill is quite good too”

Even though we were having a laidback conversation, our surroundings are filled with corpses and pained cries. It’s not like we’re cold hearted or anything since we ignored them. It’s just that you know… being treated terribly by others and whatnot made us apathetic towards them I guess. Just so you know, it’s not like we’re like this to everyone in school, there are some exceptions. Besides if they were in our positions, I bet they would’ve done the same. I know it's not normal, but that's just how we are.

“What are you doing?! Carry the injured inside the building now!”

The president, with a furious face shouted as he looks in our direction while a young woman with long black hair just smiled in an easygoing manner.

“All right, I guess we should help”

“““Mmmm”””

It seems that things would be quite troublesome from now on…
