Chapter 16: The Fortune Teller

Chapter 16: The Fortune Teller

"There, it's done," Nobara put a bright smile on her face seeing her adorable little puppy.

Yuu stuck his tongue out and crawled to the mirror on the table. He watched the mirror image of himself wearing a white collar with a red bowtie attached on it which made him look like a dog butler but fancy. His black shiny fur was sprinkled with silver glitters. He was rejoiced by his new look then he glanced at Nobara who was overwhelmed by his adorable figure. He barked adorably and wagged his tail showing her a friendly manner.

Nobara looked different; she wore a red chilli kimono, the Japanese traditional cloth, which matched her brownish-crimson hair. The pattern had a plethora of orange and pink coloured of the cherry blossom flowers on the sleeves and at the bottom part of her kimono and the flowers reduced in number as it went higher up to her waist, which depicted the taste of Japanese. Her obi had a floral pattern with different complexes of orange colour. A black obijime was wrapped around the obi with an obidome with a pattern of a sakura flower.

Hayabusa fixed her hair beautifully so that her comeliness was enough to win a gentleman's heart with a single gaze. He divided her hair into four parts and braided them and twisted them into a huge loosened bun. He impaled a kanzashi with seven small pink flowers arranged together in a circle and small beads dangling like a small curtain, through her bun.

"Nobara-sama, you look like a Japanese princess, fabulous touch of Japanese, I guess," Yuu praised her.

"I'm a princess," boasted Nobara.

"Ryuuchiro's princess. He does have a sense of fashion, the kimono and the kanzashi suit your complexion and your hair," Hayabusa added.

Nobara smiled but Yuu rolled his eyes as he heard the word 'Ryuuchiro' being mentioned; he despised the old man.

______________

Yuu wandered solo through the busy bazaar with his human form. He was a bit disappointed that only sentinels and invited guests could enter the royal palace so he was left alone. He could hear the distant sound of the traditional Japanese instruments from the battle arena. He realised how the women around him reacted as he sauntered through the space. They giggled and some took a photo of him with their phones which annoyed him; he acknowledged them as a nuisance more than a fan girl. He was tall and charming and indeed, he became the public's main attention especially amongst the opposite gender. His western fair face made him different from the other men who were present at that time.

Scrutinizing each booth of the noisy bazaar, he saw a closed small booth situated at the edge of the road. It looked like a circus tent with no stripes. It was covered with pale brown thick fabric. He saw three black letters which were written as 占い師 (uranaishi=fortune teller) on the white board on top of its entrance but he couldn't read them. He saw a man merrily left the tent and walked away. Yuu was curious about what service was offered inside.

He walked closer and entered the tent. It was as dark as night with no stars and moon inside. Before he could leave, an unknown object suddenly glowed in bright red colour and revealed the surrounding of the tent. There was an old man with a fez on his head and was wearing a purple hologramatic vest with white long sleeves thobe-like shirt. It was his orb that was glowing as his lips kept enchanting some words to it. Yuu was mesmerized by the orb and sat on the chair in front of him as he showed a hand gesture telling him to sit.

"Young man, your reasonable arrival has been foreseen for a long time. You seek for a person to break your curse, nigh or not? And-" The old man suddenly spoke while touching his long greyish beard and one hand showed him a ceramic bowl.

"Oh no, i-it's a coincidence, I came by a curiosity," Yuu replied then put some cash into the bowl.

"Not enough young man, everything from your wallet,"

Yuu clicked his tongue then lent him another note of ¥10,000 and naively put it into the bowl. The old man smiled and hid the bowl underneath the table.

"And as you offer that to me firstly, I would like to know why I'm still-" Yuu leant closer to the man and whispered, "a dog?"

"Well, young man, I can only tell that a spell can only break if you follow the procedure,"

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"Oh well, I do! I fell in love with a woman and we even kissed, and we-" Yuu paused as he could tell no more about Nobara.

The old man ogled at him but with no sexual interest. He widened one of his eyes while stroking his beard right from its root to its end.

"But have you ever noticed a misfortune never happened to her? And does she love you like a lover?" The fortune teller asked.

Yuu widened his eyes. His words might be true, Nobara never saw him as a lover but more like a pet who acted as an assistant. He realised how Nobara never met calamity as they were together unlike his lovers he met before her. She always treated him harshly and cruelly but hardly kind. Out of the daydreaming, Yuu doubted the man for knowing about his nature.

"Well I'm a fortune teller, I could tell your past, your present and your future just by reading this orb," the old man rubbed the orb.

Yuu glared at his fingers and his rings with huge stones. He recognised one of them as it looked familiar. A gold ring with a turquoise stone and the silver stamp of a winged dragon at the side of the ring. Yuu seized his hand and pulled off the ring from his thin and long middle finger.

"You!! You're Sheena!! This ring can only be owned by the royal werewolf. It's a special ring made by the werewolf blacksmith, no other creature can replicate this due to its unique stone which glows under the moonlight! And I gave mine to a witch as a marriage proposal!! And I sensed no magic from your orb, it's fake!!" Yuu snarled with anger.

"Hah!? Haha!! How can I be a witch? I'm a man and a fortune teller! And this is mine!!" The fortune teller laughed nervously then tried to snatch the ring but it was still in Yuu's hand.

"I paid you ¥20,000 and you should break my curse at instant," Yuu shouted as he showed the fortune teller the ring.

The fortune teller was annoyed. He inhaled then exhaled and started packing everything on the table. Yuu hit the table and seized his hands and gripped them tightly.

"Contractum bi daemōn!!" Yuu shouted in anger then a magic circle with six sided stars appeared on the man's hand.

"You, what have you done!! How dare you make a contract with me, you filthy wolf!" The man slowly lost his beard and his face varied from a man to an old woman's face; Sheena's face.

"Sheena, I'm in love with you!! Please break my curse!" Yuu embraced her tightly and begged.

"I'm afraid that my love has long died along with your kingdom, Your Highness! In addition, I never learnt how to break a curse!" Sheena declared, "Now let go of me, you fool man!"

"Poppycock! Have you ever heard about the werewolf contract? It means death if disobey, even an immortal burn to ash,"

"I don't do magic anymore, is that really complicated to understand? I'm a fortune teller. Besides, in this modern world, nothing is more important than money. Money has monopolised this world, so I became a fortune teller."

"But you must help me, you're the greatest witch in the world," Yuu begged with tears in his eyes.

Sheena gazed up to his face then sighed. "I'm afraid that I must disappoint you, Your Highness, but I'm no longer a great witch."

Yuu released her hands with disappointment. He signed but Sheena neglected it; she returned to her seat and did nothing. He turned back and lifted the curtain at the entrance.

"Wait, Your Highness! There is something that is an ought for you to know!" Sheena suddenly screamed.

Yuu turned back and stared at her with his emerald predator-like eyes.

"But, I fear that the consequences would be more risky than what you would expect, oh what is it?" Sheena pinched her chin and thought for a while.

Yuu glared while looking down at her like an arrogant prince. He stood still waiting for an answer to be spat out from her mouth.

"You mustn't forget your position as a king, you're the alpha, the werewolf king," Sheena added.

"That's absurd, how can I be a king, I've my brothers, and my father is still alive, I presume," Yuu replied with confusion drawn on his face.

"Your father died of cholesterol, right before I cursed your kingdom. Your six brothers, their statues have broken into pieces. Your kingdom has become a historical exotic tourism for exhibition," Sheena looked at the glowing orb.

Yuu was shocked. He couldn't believe what had been told by Sheena. He was ambivalent whether to trust her or otherwise but it was him who told lies to her before thus she mustn't tell lies and she never would. Yuu left the tent and stopped outside of the tent and stood still as he heard Sheena called him again.

"Remember, the alpha power will be awakened once it's full moon regardless of you being cursed. You will fully regain it once in the blue moon," added Sheena from inside the tent.

Yuu stomped away and sat on a bench under a fringed tree. He cried at the thought of his dead family and his ruined kingdom. Due to his reckless mistake, deterioration was set upon his kingdom and now he was nothing but a stray useless and powerless wolf in the form of a dog. He remembered Nobara and it eased his sorrow.
