[January 2 Kyoto, Japan [NHK News Station 3: 50 pm]

The lights flash as the camera zooms in on the news anchor "Breaking news, a massive semi-truck incident has occurred on highway 423, Iyono is at the scene for more details.

Viewers discretion is advised, if you have little children, please cover their eyes or escort them out of the room." the news anchor said with visible discomfort this moment, every tv Japan has ever seen.

Piles and piles of completely destroyed as far as the eye could see, the thick clouds of smoke, it really puts the air in despair as heroes rush to find survivors, the camera shifts to the reporter at the scene she takes a deep breath before beginning her report.

"Today, a catastrophic disaster has happened on highway 423, as you can see, the road is completely demolished-"

BOOM!

Just then, a car erupted into flames, the reporter gets sent to the ground from the blast, she quickly gets back up and continues her report "Continuing, heroes are on the move to find any civilians, but they currently haven't found any survivors, but count on NHK to keep you updated." the reporter makes the signal to turn the camera off and starts talking with her crew.

"iyono! That was amazing! You killed it out there!" Iyono's camerawoman/best friend Ayaka exclaims, "Thanks bestie, but save the compliments for later, now's not the time." Iyono replies as the two are packing up.

"What in the world do you think caused this? It seems like a regular car crash scene, nothing we haven't covered before, but this takes things to a whole 'nother extreme." Iyono says while taking pictures with her phone.

"I dunno, villain maybe? Who knows.? Ayaka shrugs.

Just then heroes ran towards them carrying a young boy, he’s bleeding from the head.

"Quick! Get the ambulance!" the hero said carrying the unconscious boy.

A few days later, scientists and investigators overviewed what happened.

The accident wasn't any normal highway crash, one of many extraordinary things is that, not only were there no survivors besides the child. There was no bodies found at all, in fact, it was like everyone that was involved in the crash didn't die, they disappeared. It's just a theory though, there's no evidence to back this up.

The damages were massive, the road was unearthed and demolished, and it went on for about half a mile, just like the disappearing theory, there's no evidence to back this up. This case went on for 3 years, and still with no concrete evidence or any actual reason any of this happened, the case went cold.

It is still a mystery today, with theories circulating about a conspiracy, but these theories were quickly debunked as fiction.

7 years later…

My name is Kotoshi Tanaka, I’m about to graduate from middle school and currently live care-free in my mom’s apartment.

That’s about it that’s going for me, no good looks, no smarts, no strength, and most importantly, no quirk.

“Hey sweetie! Time to rise! It’s your big day! I’m free from work and can spend time with you tonight! I sent you a list. Please visit the store in town and grab everything on the list afterwards, we’re having chicken adobo! Good luck on your job interview! Anyways, i’ll be there tonight! Xo” -Mommy

My eyes slowly awake to the light trickling in from the window, and I wake up with a bad taste in my mouth, I stretch to the point of almost getting a muscle cramp, I kneel on the floor in pain, crawl over to the kitchen and prop myself up using the kitchen handle since I was already there, I opened the fridge and grabbed some OJ.

I poured it into the glass perfectly, “Alrighty! Now time to resume that anime I was-

RING!!!

My phone does the notification sound effect, which was set louder when my phone is active.

Instinctively, I turn around, with my hand knocking a full cup of OJ over splash!!!

I sigh and check what my notification was.

[Notifications]

! Voice mail !

[Sender: Mom]

“Hey sweetie, I have to remind you, we’re out of paper towels! So could you pick some up at the market? Alright, cya soon!” bleep.

“Aw c’mon…” I sigh as I put some bread in the toaster, and start getting ready for the day ahead.

I turn on the tv, as I get out my notepad to write down things to kill time later today.

[Channel 20]

"You are watching Yao Sai news! Your number one local news in the Okinawa prefecture!” The tv boomed as I was sopping up the spilled juice with my dirty laundry, it was gonna go to be brand new when I wash it anyways. I then started picking out on my best outfit for my interview.

“Now let’s get to the weather,” the news anchor said as it swapped to the weatherwoman.

“Thank you for tuning in! It’s my first day on the job, the regular weatherman is under the weather! I am pleased to present to you, the weather! In Yao Sai this morning it’s a lukewarm 68 degrees, with an expected high of 75 degrees, and it will stay that way for the rest of the day." The weatherman said

"I advise against going out for the whole day, we are still on “A” rank villain watch. “A” rank villain “Extinction” is still on the loose, if sighted please evacuate as quietly as possible for your safety.” The weatherman ended as I jump into the shower, brush my teeth, comb my hair and look myself in the mirror.

“Kotoshi, you are going to do great. You will nail this interview. You will get this job, and from there you will prove to the world who you are. Maybe, argh! I sound so stupid right now, right now.” I say trying to hype myself up.

I grab my bag, grab my toast, and headed out my door.

[Bao Sai, Japan (Residential District) [8:26 AM]

After rushing out the door, down 5 flights of stairs, and out the lobby, I head right, and take another right. Into an alleyway, and there lies my moped. Not just any moped, the one I received last year for my 16th birthday, it’s black with mint green stripes. My favorite two colors, my mom knows, what my mom knows, and my mom knows what I like, and I appreciate her for that.

I rev the vehicle, the moped giving a loud roar in the process. (by the way, I named my moped mochi. Pretty nice right?) and drive off to catch the bus.

[Bao Sai , Japan (Downtown District) [8:30 AM]

I quickly park Mochi, and lock her to the ground so nobody steals her.

I ran to catch the bus, but it was already leaving without me. I try to signal the bus, but no good.

So I made the desperate attempt of jumping in front of the bus to make the driver stop.

Screech the bus barely comes to a stop and the driver opened the door.

“What the hell kid? You almost got yourself killed.” the driver yelled at me as I apologized.

I walk at the back of the bus with everyone staring at me. I get extremely anxious as a girl also gets on, I sit down at the back and she sits right next to me.

“Thanks for stopping the bus! I need to get to the yaese. And I couldn’t catch the bus! But that’s when you jumped in, literally!” the girl next to me said as I start opening the sandwich I packed.

The girl next to me immediately starts drooling.

“Y-you, want a half?” I say nervously as I hand her a slice of my sandwich.

She nods as she slowly reaches for it.

I reach out further to place it in her hand.

“Anyways, I was also heading to yaese! What a coincidence!” I say with a lighter tone she finished scarfing down the sandwich.

“Thank you!” she exclaimed “I haven’t had a meal in 2 days.” I was shocked. 2 days!?! “You mean you haven’t had a sandwich in two days, right???” I say in question “Nope! I was saving up my money to get on this bus! I really haven’t eaten!” She says so cheerfully.

“Why are you acting so cheerfully at this?” I say “Nah, i’m just in a really good mood!” The girl says with a giggle.

I was really confused. But if she had really not eaten for 2 days, how could she be so content? “you want the other half?” I offered, she not going to refuse food, nodded.

As she was chowing down, I decided to ask a couple of questions.

“Well, quick questions, what’s your name? Where do you live? And not to be rude but does your mom feed you? Because I am concerned- and you are already done.” I say.

“Alrighty! My name is Natsuki Ikari, but you can call me Natsu!” She responds to the first question.

“I Live everywhere! It’s like every day is an adventure!” She answers the second question.

“And lastly! My whole family disowned me. So I don’t have a family.” She answered the last question.

“Wow, that was shocking. And brutally honest.” I say even more shocked.

“It's okay, I haven’t talked to a person in a while, so it’s a nice change of pace!” she smiled.

Just then the loudspeaker went off.

Next stop, Yaese, please report to the front if this is your stop.

Hearing that, we both got off at the stop.

[Yaese, Japan [8:41 am]

Me and natsuki walk out of the transport bus.

"Well, it was nice meeting you, I wish protection over you.” I say bidding farewell.

“Thank you! I thank you for your blessing-” Natsuki says “and 2000 yen, seriously, take it.” I say handing Natsuki money.

“Ehh???” she says in question.

“Take it.” I say shoving money in her face, “The only option is yes.” I say continuously having her take the money while people are staring at us.

She finally took the money as I went on my way.

I was walking down the street, people were cheering and pointing up into the sky and looked up into the sky and saw a pro hero out doing his patrols.

“Wow, what I would give to be a hero like that.” I say quietly.

“Amazing! Right?” Natsuki said behind me, completely startling me “sorry, I was also heading this way, so when I saw you, I decided to walk with you, since y'know, you’re the only one I sort of know.” Natsuki said. We started walking, and after a little bit Natsuki asked me a question. “i forgot to ask you, what’s your name?” “Tanaka, Kotoshi Tanaka, but Koto is fine.” I said to her.

“Kotoshi huh, cute first name? But Tanaka… hmm where have I heard that name before… wait. Like Ai Tanaka? The big superstar pro hero?” she asked me.

“Yes, she’s actually my mom.” I respond to her question.

Just then, the people around us were looking at us “did I hear that right?” “That’s Inertai’s son?” “Did she even have one?” Commotion starting crowding around us, so I grabbed Natsuki’s hand and left the scene.

The crowd chased us for a little bit, but we managed to lose them by hiding in an out of service phone booth.

After escaping to crowd, I started explaining to natsuki the whole situation with me and my mom “Wait, that doesn’t make sense, as far as I remember Inertai hasn’t been dating anyone. And even if she was, she never had a chi- '' natsuki said before I covered her mouth.

“Listen, to clarify, yes, my mom is the famous pro hero like you said, but not the way you think.” I said trying easing natsuki down.

“Hmm… oh! Does that mean you’re…” Natsuki says finally understanding.

“Yes, i’m an adopted child, she took me in at a young age and supposed to keep it a secret.” I explain “alright, I understand!” she says.

“I don’t even remember what life was like before I was adopted. I just woke up one day and a few weeks later, I'm adopted.” I say with a sad tone “Koto…” she says carrying on the sad tone, “anyways, I have to hurry now. Let’s go.” I say as she nods.

We walk out of the phone booth and get moving.

we arrive at the place my interview was going to take place.

“Well, we’re here!” Natsuki said while I was taking a sip of water.

“Yep, I have a job interview, what about you? I presume you have some business here?” I asked natsuki glancing at her, I could see nervousness in her eyes, but they quickly disappeared, and they turned into joyful eyes.

“ah nothing, just visiting somebody here. Somebody that I know works here!” she says with a smile.

We part ways and I start walking towards the main entrance.

Ring!

I walk into the very spacious room, and walk over to the receptionist.

“hello there! How may I help you?” she said with a smile “i’m here for a job interview, kotoshi tanaka? It should pop up, I have one at 9 am today.” I said to her while she was checking her database.

“Yep! You’re here! It should be on the 8th floor and once you take the elevator it should be on your right. Good luck on your interview!” the receptionist lady said to me.

“Thank you, I’m sure I’ll do fine! Right?” I said.

Oh how wrong I was.

“Mr. Tanaka, I can tell you right now that you are not going to land this job.” the interviewer said after going through my resume.

Dread fills my mind, not again. I’ve tried so hard… “w-why? I’m a hard worker… I said it loud and clear in my resume…” I say on the brink of tears.

“i’m sorry kid, your abilities just don’t fit this work environment.” the man said to me. As tears rolled down my face.

“Mr. Shikaichi, I beg of you, give me this job. I’ll work hard! I’ll get to work early! And i’ll stay late!” I cry, begging for him to give me a chance.

“i know you can, that’s not the point. We live in a society where extraordinary is the norm.

Any people that aren’t extraordinary, people like you, they won’t make it, even if they try their hardest, everyone will pass them because they’re extraordinary and people like you, are ordinary. Our business has seen events like this in the past.” he says as tears roll down my face.

“i-i, bu- I could still- I won’t-” I say breaking down in more tears, the interviewer feeling pity, “ah, what am I going to do with you…” mr shikaichi sighs ring! Ring! Ring!

The phone chimes in and the interviewer picks up the phone.

“hello? I’m interviewing someone. No, he’s not making it in, no his resume is pretty solid, he’s just… yes he’s quirkless, you have a job for him? Okay, I will check it out with him.” he says to the person on the phone.

“Mr. Tanaka, are you willing to take any job?” mr. Shikaichi asked me while I dry up my tears.

“y-yes sir! I am willing to take any job!” I say nodding my head and getting my act together.

“alright, follow me then.” he said as we walked out of his office.

We kept walking, we took the elevator down to ground level.

When we exited the elevator, we took a right, after taking a few more turns, we finally arrived at another door that led outside.

“just asking, where am I going to be working, because we’re exiting the building-” I asked before getting interrupted.

“you’ll see, it’s something no one else can do, let me rephrase that, want to do.” mr. Shikaichi said before we stopped in front of my work job.

“A-A-A parking garage?” I said while looking at the massive scale of the garage.

“Mhm” Mr. Shikaichi “this is the parking garage all of our workers park, the ironic part is that this parking garage is even filthier than our building itself. Easily due to nobody-” “Cleaning it up!” I said finishing his sentence.

“Correctamundo, and we’ll put it like this, every floor you clean, the company will pay you 200,000 yen paid to you directly, think of it as a… part-time job, like mowing the yard, or painting the fence.” Mr. Shikaichi said to me explaining my job.

“200,000?!?” I say out loud trying to set aside my excitement.

“And you can start right now, I will inform the receptionist about your new job. Just wait here.

He said giving me the key to the outdoor storage room.

“Welp, guess I gotta get to work!” I say getting hyped up for my new job.

I walk over and unlock the storage shed, it was filled with pretty new cleaning equipment and about 20 packs of garbage bags.

“Alright, before I start, I want to see something.” I say locking the shed behind me before heading in the parking garage.

I head deeper in, and finally get to the stairs, I climb up the mossy stairs, my heart beating so fast that I could hear it clearly. Finally, reaching the roof floor of the garage, I collapse on the floor out of exhaustion. I quickly get up, adrenaline running through my veins, and run to the railing.

I look out the railing, and I stare at awe in seeing the ocean, the sun is just at the right time where it sparkles the most.

I yell out at the bottom of my lungs until my throat hurts, "YEAHHH!!!” I sit down on the floor, leaning on the railing after using up all of my adrenaline.

“I can’t wait to start this job, even if this job is done and will be stuck with doing nothing the rest of my life, I am grateful for the opportunity to work.” I say with a cheerful attitude.

“Even so, there’s so much that I wanted to do, get a stable job, have a wife, start a family. I’m afraid that i’ll never be able to experience these things.” I frown I close my eyes, breathe in, then breathe out, “You know what? If I keep doing the same thing, maybe I'll never go anywhere.

But from this day forward, I will help everyone. No matter what!” I say loudly from the top of my lungs.

Suddenly I fall in the floor, and feel a sort of energy flowing through my body and my heartbeat feels funny. “what’s happening?!? My body, it’s glowing.” I say in confusion.

Suddenly, it all stopped, and my body returned to normal.

I sat there for a second, putting together what just happened.

Weirded out by the whole experience, I decide to get back down.

But before I went back down the stairway, I saw a black backpack just laying there by the rail.

I inspected the bag, it’s completely new! And the material was made of really durable material, you’d end up spending a fortune for this bag. I looked inside it, the bag was completely empty.

“I should keep this, I need a new backpack for school!” I say with a big smile on my face.

Smash!

Something lands behind me, creating a huge dust cloud.

I see a big bulky man through the thick dust.

“Hello? Are you okay?” I ask the silhouette, “g-give it b-b-back!!!” he said violently.

Instinctively, I ran back down the stairs.

SCREEECH!!!
