Life is an anomaly in the vast reality that is the universe. Is life the consciousness of the universe or is all of it by chance?
A miracle that sprouted in one of the cosmic objects that is Earth?
Wait, no, God exists.
Yes, God gave us life and all the miracles we find ourselves in!
Oh, thank you!
Not only did you give me life but also, you gave me a glorious death!
…..
Upon seeing the three drop-dead gorgeous women that seemed like they were out of this world, Ethan dropped to his knees, blood dripped from his nostrils, and life faded from his eyes.
He died… again.
“Uhhh…” God looked at the familiar soul, “Why are you here? Wait no, yeah, that happened? Damn, who made you? Wait, I'm going to tweak something…”
However, Ethan was unresponsive.
“His conscience broke…” In a single thought, God figured out the solution, “It was stimulating to you even after death? God damn! I'll have to erase your memories. I hope I'll see you again later, not sooner. Bye.”
…..
Back to the Dark Dungeon, life returned to Ethan's eyes. Making sense of what happened, he stood and scratched his head.
“Why was I on my… knees?”
Meanwhile, the three women were as confused as him.
“What's the matter with him?” the first to ask was the female warrior.
Ethan jolted when he suddenly heard a voice but saw no one.
“Did you all experience the same as I?” Phelorna asked the other two women. The snow-haired just glanced at her but didn’t say anything.
“What do you mean?” the female warrior asked in return. She was cautious in not answering anything yet. Everything here is unknown to her. While this black-haired woman seemed to have pure eyes, looks can be deceiving.
“I was on the verge of death… then, when I opened my eyes again, I was here.”
The female warrior frowned and held her chest. The last that she remembered was a blade that pierced her heart. Yet, she charged through the enemy lines of one-hundred thousand soldiers, not removing the blade to not let the blood pour out. When she was about to behead the enemy leader, she was stopped by her old rival, Dysyth.
“I wasn’t on the verge of death. I died.” the female warrior said with a hint of sorrow and frustration, “There was no way I survived those injuries.”
The black-haired girl, Phelorna, revealed a similar expression, “I’m sorry to hear that.”
The female warrior shook her head, “Don’t be,” strength could be heard in her voice again. Her lips curved with pride and confidence, “I’m a Warrior of Gallant. Death’s scythe had long been by my neck’s side since I’d been appointed. It’s a miracle that I’ve survived all those battles but this time, I wasn’t so lucky, that’s all there is to it.”
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“As long as you’re with peace,” Phelorna clasped her hands and smiled back.
Taken aback by her kindness, the female warrior put one hand forward, “I like you. My name’s Hjodona.”
Phelorna happily accepted the offer of friendship and gently shook Hjodona’s hand, “Nice to meet you too, Hjodona. Mine’s Phelorna Gold. You can call me Phel if you’re comfortable with it.”
“That’s a cute nickname! Unfortunately, the name Hjodona was given to me by Gallant herself.”
Phel knew what Hjodona meant and didn’t mind it, “Well, I think Hjodona is a beautiful name!”
Just like that, the two became friends.
Looking to their side, Hjodona asked the snow-haired woman, “How about you?” Both she and Phel had to raise their heads slightly. They didn’t notice when the snow-haired woman’s chair had accumulated a mound of ice under it, elevating her position.
“I have no business with you mortals.” the snow-haired woman simply replied without even giving them a single glance.
“Oh… alright,” Hjodona’s friendly gesture immediately disappeared and she no longer continued the conversation with the snow-haired woman.
Phel only smiled awkwardly and nodded toward the snow-haired woman.
“Well, is there anyone who might want to explain the situation?”
Not caring about Hjodana’s attitude, the snow-haired woman haughtily asked again.
“Wait, I do remember a voice before I woke up in this place,” Phel pointed out, “I heard a mysterious voice congratulating me on becoming a… harem member.”
Both Hjodona and the snow-haired woman showed unsightly expressions since they remember something like that as well.
[That is correct! You all have been chosen to serve Ethan in his second life!]
The System’s voice resounded in the Dark Dungeon.
“What? What does that mean?” Hjodona kept her cool. However, hints of agitation could still be heard in her tone. She is a proud warrior that only serves the God of War, Gallant. She serves no one else!
[It means that, from now on, you are all considered lovers of Ethan.]
Bright arrows pointed at Ethan.
[You are Harem Member Number 1, Number 2, and Number 3!]
Then arrows at Phelorna, Hjodona, and the snow-haired woman in that sequence.
Bam!*
Hjodona stomped her feet forward, creating a strong gust of air, “Calling me a mere harem member of this pathetic man!? I won’t allow this kind of disrespect!” her eyes widened in focus towards the screen where the voice seemed to be coming from, like a lioness ready to strike.
At the same time, the air in the Dark Dungeon got colder. Ice crept on the floor farther from the source, the snow-haired girl. She was furious.
“How dare you,” her seemingly delicate hands curled up into fists and trembled, “How dare you call me Number Three? I should be Number One!”
Hjodona almost slipped on the icy floor she was steadily standing on and rebutted, “That’s where you're angry at!?”
The snow-haired woman crossed her legs, interlocked her fingers, and revealed a solemn expression, “I’m always the number one.”
“That makes no sense!”
Meanwhile, Ethan caressed his non-existing beard, “I only hear angelic voices but I see no one. What’s happening, System?”
[That’s the new update! One of the Harem System’s perks is that the user, you, gains strength the more there is “love” between you and your harem members! However, since you are one virgin boy and have not even touched a woman in your entire life, you got over-excited over their appearances alone, thus, raising what we call the Love Meter… one-sidedly. This raised your strength so above and beyond what your body can handle and you know what that meant. That’s why your memories had to be removed and the System had to be modified due to your sheer horniness.]
Once the System had done explaining what just happened, silence strongly pervaded the Dark Dungeon. The three women were utterly speechless.
Meanwhile, Ethan needed a few moments before he had an “aha” moment and placed his fist over the palm of his other hand.
“I get it, so that’s what happened!”
“““We don’t get it!””” the three women simultaneously exclaimed.
Ethan paused and asked, “So, when and how can I see my harem, System?”
[We have the overall Love Meter, but we also have the individual Love Meter that constitutes the overall Love Meter. Once a harem member reaches a certain threshold on their individual Love Meter, you will be able to see them!]
