Chapter 24: Messy Escape

Chapter 24: Messy Escape

Ok, so this. This is VERY FAR from what I was expecting.

I climbed the pile and got ready to lift, empowered the strength and durability in my arms by 3 while empowered the strength and durability in my legs by 2 using up all my strength and constitution attributes. And…I proceeded to accidentally lift it so hard it nearly hit my head and started spinning. The beam proceeded to cartwheel its way down the pile, through a wall and impale itself in a Steam crane, causing it to blow up in a rather destructive and alarming way.

It went without saying that stealth was now impossible and without thinking I just grabbed a beam, not noticing the ease at which I did so, and ran.

I was now 10 buildings, or so, away from the very noticeable fire in the distance on a roof. Carrying a whole steel beam.

Beast: “What the fuck do I do now? I just blew up part of a storage area- The guard going to kill me for sabotage”

I was panicking. I was trying to stay calm but thoughts of having the entire garrison hunt me down- wait, most of the garrison left. They're understaffed right now and no one has seen my face. I can do this and still help the twins!

Beast’s thoughts:” OK, I just need to calm down and-”

Male Guard:” Over there, on the roof!”

Beast’s thoughts:”-Run like the Abyss!”

I grabbed the steel and started house-hopping my way out of there, each jump granting much-needed distance. As time passed I noticed the sound of guards getting quieter and quieter but I dared not look back. For all I know the royal guards from yesterday might be on my ass.

I moved through the urban jungle of different construction sites, cranes and scaffolding, occasionally causing collateral damage with the steel beam I was carrying. On the bright side, it made it harder for the pursuing guards to follow, but it also made it extremely easy to track me. I couldn’t lead them to Chuma and the twins… and Winda, I guess.

There! In the distance was the towering beacon of cities everywhere, The Sky Port. Ours is still under construction so there should still be some construction vehicles around it, like some Construction Kiinua Hewa. If I could steal a Construction Kiinua Hewa and with the darkness of the night having set in, I should be able to fly back nearly unnoticed even with the Sky Ship's lackadaisical speed. I saw at least 5 in use at the Ports construction site through Winda’s eyes, they should also only be up to 7 stories by now. So unless the foreman is a sadist, they should be docked at ground level.

“Gods above it’s starting to get tiring keeping these empowerments going” I grumbled to the night air.

I may be a living curse but even I can’t keep empowerments going indefinitely and using all the attribute points at once sure as Abyss isn’t helping.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

A sudden ice-cold and sharp pain ran down my spine.

I stumbled a bit from the unexpected pain” Aach! Is that what Empowerment Overuse feels like? Damn, I need to get to those ships before the Iskali kicks in and fast.”

With all urgency and haste, I made my way to the sky port construction site jumping over streets and patrols alike. Unfortunately for me, the street lights were already turning on and making my discovery very frequent as my conspicuous form was lit up with every street I crossed. The only reason I haven’t been caught yet must be because they’re likely planning to ambush me somewhere.

Gods, I hope it’s not at the port.

I eventually made it to a very empty and dimly lit Skyport. The compound was full of partially installed light trees, their electro-lines pecking out from several lazily sealed trunks. Honestly, I probably should have come here first seeing how little care was put into such expensive devices. But, then there's the massive chain link fence. The very likely electrified massive chain link fence.

As I stand at the top of a half-built two-story restaurant, before me lies a 4-metre wide road that circles the port plaza, beyond that is a stupidly tall 8-metre steel chain fence protecting both the port and the Sky ships docked at ground level. It's grand stature and barbed top standing in defiance of the very idea of intruders.

Beast:” I might be able to use the light trees near the fence but they are just as likely to electrocute me to death with their exposed lines.”

As if to respond to my concern an exposed tree flickers on with a loud *kisshhh* and then slowly dims back to its darkened state

Beast:” OK, using the trees is out of the question.”

Perhaps I could use the beam to try vaulting over the fence- no that would defeat the whole point of this. I need a way that involves me keeping the beam.

Maybe ram the fence down?

That might be my only way in. but I’d rather not be shocked to death. hmmm…

Oh, I got it.

I jump down to the road, the weight of the steel beam causing audible cracks to form where I land. I then extend the beam so far in front of me that the back of my palms were touching the end of the beam and I pull back with all my might (hitting something behind me in the process) and horizontally swing and toss the beam at the fence.

The steel beam spins forward, flying at a speed that could easily break un-empowered bones and creating a roughly 3 by 3-metre hole in the fence and alerting any with ears,

Overpowering any other sound with its distressing *kassh* ringing into the night.

The guards were no doubt panicking. The sky port is the most important part of any city and I basically just announced to the city that I just broke into ours.

Without a second thought, I dashed into the port plaza and picked up the beam that had embedded itself into a wall. It was partially covered in red dust as I pulled it out, but luckily didn’t fully penetrate into the wall. I could hear shouts as more than the guard seemed to be reacting to my intrusion.

“I need to find a ship!” I quickly ran over to the marked cargo landing pad and started searching around it.

Running past cranes, carts and deactivated steam beasts. Where did they put those ships and why are they so far from the landing pad?

“How is it this hard to find a ship shaped like a giant bird head?!?” I complained

At last, after making it halfway past the wide tower that was the sky port I spotted the massive upwards facing becks of 6 Kiinua Hewa sky ships.

I’ve never been so happy to see a mapumambao’s head in my life!
