(??? POV)
As I gained sentience, I opened my eyes to grasp at my surroundings.
I was greeted by blazing light.
Pure White Light flooding my eyes.
The light felt brighter than the sun itself.
Radiant than anything I had ever seen.
It engulfed my very being as I was blinded, and my eyes snapped shut reflexively.
That momentary view of the light had major consequences, as I felt a sensation so striking that I lost consciousness.
Pain.
Pain coursed through my soul engulfing my entire being, perforating me with the sensation of a million spikes penetrating me.
The light had affected the sensitive nerve endings in my eyes as it riddled my body with pain.
I tried to scream, but the sound didn't escape my throat. It seemed as if the scream was muffled by the surrounding atmosphere, trapped inside an enclosed chamber without any escape.
This whole scenario occurred in just a moment, even less than a second.
Still, the pain made me lose my consciousness and the last sensation that I was able to perceive before fainting was my drifting body.
After an unknown amount of time, I was able to regain consciousness. Fortunately, now I had enough sense in my brain to not open my eyes due to my previous experience.
Then, I started to wonder where I was and most importantly who I am.
It should have chilled me to the core that I didn't remember anything about my past, my name, my family, my age. I had no recollection of how I was able to reach this place.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
After a few minutes, I heard some unintelligible chattering. I didn't know how I was 'hearing' these sounds.
It was an amalgamation of several sound notes made by an instrument. For some reason, these sounds had an otherworldly feel to it.
These sounds felt like they had no emotion behind them. All notes were evenly spaced as they articulated something that I couldn't comprehend.
They were produced by someone inhuman.
It was a crazy thought, but I couldn't explain them any better.
The unintelligible chattering went on for an unknown amount of time, and it soon became a background noise that I could drone out.
Suddenly, I felt a tug at my consciousness. It felt as if someone or something controlled my brain for a moment and directed my stream of thoughts.
The very next moment, numerous exotic thoughts streamed into my brain. These thoughts were definitely not my creation but entered my brain due to an external influence.
As they flowed into my mind, they began to construct themselves into a coherent meaning.
After various hours (or maybe days?), I began to make sense of those thoughts and gained a new realization of my current situation.
I was dead.
I did not exist anymore on the mortal plane.
My heart had stopped beating and warm. blood did not flow in my veins anymore.
I could not recollect if I passed away due to an accident, disease or some other reason.
For personal details, I could only remember that I had just entered high school before I died.
After this revelation, I felt nothing. Maybe I would have some strong feelings if I remembered my past or my family, but all of it had been washed away from my memories. Not even a single fragment of those remained.
And for another revelation, I was in the presence of a higher being.
Not God.
Gods in all mythologies were imperfect beings. They had their human tendencies, they just held more power than mortals.
I was in the presence of someone perfect. I felt this in my very soul that I could never fathom their existence.
This explained why I was blinded when I opened my eyes.
Those thoughts that had been streamlined into my brain explained everything.
I was here for a purpose. It wasn't clear to me why someone like him (or her?) would ever need me for something.
But my presence held a purpose. I didn't know what happened to other humans when they died. But I knew, by those thoughts, that I was given a chance after death.
I had been given consciousness after death to fulfil some objective.
Every question that I might have had due to this situation was somehow resolved.
The moment a question formed inside my mind, a thought addressed that question, and I was provided with an answer.
I thought, 'What is my objective? What is the purpose behind bringing me here?'
I could sense a thought that said, 'The purpose behind bringing me here cannot be disclosed to me right now. All I can know is that I would be transmigrated to alternate worlds like Earth. Not only once, but many times until the goal I need to fulfil is achieved. '
'What do I need to do in those worlds?', I questioned.
I was answered with a wisp of thought,' You will not be provided with a linear roadmap. You have been chosen due to your personality fulfilling all the checkmarks required for the goal. You just have to be true to yourself.'
This released a huge burden from my shoulders, as I was dreading the fact that I might have to execute some actions that might contradict my beliefs and morality. I was ready to give them up, but apparently, I didn't have to.
I was then informed, 'You will be provided with a blessing from me that would aid in your journey. These blessings would be catered to your world and as per the requirement.'
After some further rumination, I asked, 'How would I be able to know when my objective in that world has been fulfilled, and I need to travel to another world.'?
'Those details would be left to my discretion. You don't have to worry about them.'
I still had many questions about the higher being itself, but I felt it wouldn't be prudent to voice out my apprehensions right now.
I didn't have any other choice than to agree with it. And living, albeit in a different world was infinitely better than death.
I stated in my thoughts that I was ready to go to another world.
As I thought that, a vibration resounded through me. That vibration affected my whole body as I felt my molecules being rippled out of the plane of life and I lost consciousness for the umpteenth time of the day.
