21. Gas Gas, Quick Boys.

The match began with a lot more calmness than some of the other matches; they both began to feel each other out. There weren't any summoners, so I could fully focus on Ben and his improvements.

I never learned what his powers were. So this would be a great indicator.

They had him listed down as a support mage but hadn't listed an element.

He had also reached Tier 3 by this point. Not many of the outsiders from the Heri Rankings had reached that level.

He had managed it. His movements were swift and sure, but lacking the supernatural speed and grace of a close combat mage.

He hadn't stopped moving since the match began, but he was never properly engaging with any of the enemies.

He remained on the fringe, darting in and out of both enemy and friendly fire.

He was looking for an opportunity, but doing what I had no idea.

His team were not doing well, I felt my stomach start to fall thinking about what the native might do to Ben, and his fellow outsiders if they were not to win.

A change came to the match suddenly."Now" Ben's shout brought a massive reaction to his team. He started to let loose gas from his arms; it was only visible to mana sight. It spread incredibly quickly. His team seemed to anticipate that gas and moved back quickly to get out of its range.

The other team had little clue what was going on. They tried to press the advantage, but the gas slowly started to seep into them.

It forced its way into the body of all the competitors. It was latching on to the seemingly empty space in their body, where they had used up their mana.

It was a parasite. It began sucking up excess mana, forcing them to a stop.

They fell to their knees, coughing, soon black sludge began to rise from their throat. Was he purifying their magic? They seemed to glow brighter, but the process was knocking them unconscious.

That was an incredible ability. It grew the purity and density of people who expended mana, a very useful asset.

Using it in combat was also an ingenious way to take out all the opposing teams.

Ben will be able to become very wealthy from now on.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

I quickly maneuvered my scouts down into the haze of gas. They managed to pick up quite a bit of the gas. Then quickly moving up towards me.

The match had ended, the referee had declared Ben's team the winner. It would be hard for him to pull off something of the same magnitude again, but he would soon be a valuable commodity.

My scouts reached me, each of them having some of the magic gas inside of them. I let half of them straight back into my inner world. A further mana expense than just letting them dissolve into magic, but I figured it would be worth it if the Grove-tenders could mass-produce the purifying gas. Creating far more powerful summons.

He and his team were escorted off the arena by a few primes who had been watching the matches.

Obviously, they had found a great recruit for some empowerment program.

The team members that had been fighting Ben slowly began waking up, their power has become much denser, they had lost the match, but in the long term, they had benefitted quite a bit.

I watched the last few matches, anticipation rising for when I could make use of his power. After the final match of the qualifiers was called to a close, I rushed back to my room, ready to see what would happen.

I would have to see what the Grove-tenders said about the gas.

The path to my inner world, was far more smooth and stable than when I first started visiting the space.

Reaching the expansive plains as always took my breath away.

The mountains had become giant in their form, stretching further than I could see. The small lagoon, had become a lake, of which I could barely see the other side. The plains had grown much larger, all manner of beast grazing on its gentle sway. The forest had changed drastically, the trees starting small, slowly grew into towering giants, equal to any of the towers I had seen in the camp. Giant birds flew all around, creatures I had never thought possible existed everywhere I looked, it had become my favourite place in the world to be. Not being able to move was still sad, I would love to be able to visit every piece of the land. Which thanks to the scouts I was slowly able to do.

Somewhere out there were the Tier 4 beasts I would one day be able to summon. Just waiting for me out there in the great expanse.

The grove-tenders as usal quicky responded to my presence.

The chief seemed especially serious today.

"Where did you find that substance?"

He had never used such a tone with me, so that was quite jarring. I opened up my memories for him to see.

It took him a few seconds of pondering before he answered.

"It can be used for good, but at its core it is an evil power?"

"What, all the people who went through the gas, purified their powerbase, increasing their power by quite a bit."

"In magic child, short and painless processes rarely are beneficial for long term growth."

I couldn't work out what he was saying, I had seen with my own eyes their mana purify, grow stronger. Some almost managed a breakthrough. Reaching the precipice.

"People have a natural density tolerance and vibration for their magic. With their natural vibration and density, it allows them to eventually reach their full potential. The natural process may be slow, but it works, allowing all who diligently work to reach higher levels.

So what would it mean if people who were naturally suited for lighter and more contaminated magic got purified.

They would not be able to progress past their current level, no matter how hard they tried, nature is a cruel mistress, but often fair to those who work hard, this bastardise that potential, short term gain for long term loss. If you have reached the limits of your potential, then it is a great boon. Any other situation, it destroys your future."
