12. Flowing Stream Sect

12. Flowing Stream Sect

People weren't really happy with the team.

The sisters were complaining to one another constantly. They hadn't built up the courage to confront either me or our new team member, but it was only a matter of time.

The others had taken quite a step back from our new teammate. Obviously he had some renown in the circle. Still that was even more useful for my plan.

A reliable veteran singing my praises would go much further than any of the news from the bunch of green cultivators, who wouldn't know a powerhouse from a mortal. So the reputation gained would be far more valuable. Also safety was an issue. I could fight a core formation cultivator for a brief amount of time. But any more than that I would be in a very mortally dangerous situation. Of course I have many escape and protective talismans from the Grand Elder, but still that didn't mean I would want to use them willy nilly.

So having another person along who could work as a stopgap.

With that extra bit of power we could go a lot further and gain quite a bit more prestige in our fight against our doom hair sect. While not a particularly impressive accolade of killing a few of their sect members, it would begin to put my name on the map of the greater sect, beyond my initial dubious and unknown status.

Making our way towards the teleportation array stationed on the outskirts of the sect. The sisters finally managed to gather the courage to question my decision.

"I am afraid I must put my foot down."

The entire group stop, the stares from both myself and the veteran seemed to bleed all resolve from Bin Ji. It took her a second to school herself.

"I believe that we do not need your services, Yurk, as you know I am a disciple of an elder, being seen in a team with a rogue element such as yourself would besmirch my reputation and severely effect my future."

Instead of responding to that pretty weak plea, Yurt turned to me.

"Does she speak for you"

I shook my head, It was good that she spoke up before we left through the teleportation array, if it had of been any later it might have been a problem.

"No, Yurt she does not."

My stare could have cut through boulders, it made Bin ji almost step back, before her pride stuck her to the same spot. Silly girl.

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"Without Yurt, our chances of survival go down quite a bit. I am afraid I cannot agree to continue further with our cooperation against such a dangerous entity of the Doom hair sect."

The sister decided it was her time to chime in with some sagely advice.

"Surely even without them we would be fine sister, against demonic scum, surely our superior techniques will win us out the day."

Luckily enough, everyone in the group decided to grace the twit, with a suitably idiotic stare.

Unfortunately that didn't seem to sway her from her idea, as she began to gear up for a tirade. Yurt was kind enough to step in.

"Child you know not of what you speak, even the weakest demonic sect member is more deadly that any two of us."

"But we are from the greatest sect in all land, taught the strongest techniques?"

Yurt nodded along in sympathy, he was being surprisingly kind to her.

"However each and every living member of a demonic sect, has had to step on hundreds of the dead to get to where you are, tell me young one, do you have a killer instinct."

That made her think, Yurts actions of kindness also helped him solidify his position in the team. Maybe we wouldn't have as much issues as we once thought.

"Very well, I remove my challenge, we can all continue as a team, I still require to be leader in all situations."

Yurt and I both agreed leisurely as we moved towards the portals to the far away. It was under the control of the Flowing Stream Sect, their sect leader had only the strength of a golden core, and a weak one at that.

So we wouldn't have much backup at all when it came down to it. The sect was bunkering down hoping to weather the storm, we were just joining the front that had already begun, they were already two golden cores and a half dozen core formation already over there, we just came to back up the troops.

Our main function would be shock troops working alongside the native sect members to attack the weak-spots in the geography and supply chain of the sect.

I didn't plan on letting it be so easy on the righteous sects.

A quick war wouldn't do much to raise my prestige unless I could be a direct contributor from the outset, considering my strength at the moment, that seems unlikely that I would be able to engender such change. A long term conflict would be far more beneficial towards my growth.

With my new body and powers I was not very combat tested, these weak sect members would be the perfect practice. My combat senses themselves haven't faded at least, they just felt a little different in this new form.

I hadn't messed around all that much with my new power either, It was still limited of what It could do in the Foundation Building stage, other than smother any opponent up to mid core formation in an endless barrage of sickness and pain, apart from that though I had no other uses thus far for my new skills.

The group took a few seconds to take stock, Yurt did no such thing, he immediately went through the portal, I followed along soon afterwards.

It took a few seconds once we got to the other side for the others eventually to trickle through.

Finally we all got to the other side. Looking around it was actually quite nice.

The Flowing Stream sect had fallen on hard times recently but it was clear they were once actually quite powerful, judging by their entry hall anyway, very grand for a golden core.

Now was time for War.
