Monster

When was the last time I felt this way?

Ooh, that's right, When I was at home cooking alone with Hana.

While we were making dinner, I heard a loud 'bam' sound resounding in the kitchen. Even Hana was able to pick up the sound. I knew it came from the entrance, Thanks to my ear's perception of hearing. I went to check while I told Hana to stay put.

When I got there, I saw three men dressed shadily, with black suits and masks.

"Hey, there's still people living in this damn house! How are we going to make a base here!"

One of the men shouted loud enough for both me and Hana to hear.

Base? Well where we lived probably looked like a villain's headquarters so it would make sense for these type of people to show up.

The largest of the three came to a decision.

"No choice huh. Kill her."

The other two men walked up to me briskly. One of them went behind and grabbed my arms and the other pulled out a knife.

Usually in this type of situation, one would be screaming for help. However, I am unusually calm.

I could not help but laugh at this predicament.

"Hooh, you want to kill me, you say?"

"Wh-what? Obviously!"

"Then..."

I overthrew the man holding my shoulders onto the floor, slamming him into the other man.

"Come and kill me then."

"Oww, the hell is wrong with this woman!"

"Wait! Look closer! Those ears!"

"Yeah, so? It's just a stinking beastkin. A filthy Cat Sith as well."

"Don't you know, boss!? She's Machi! The famous Risha's partner!"

"She won't be able to attack us with our 'Shield', right?"

The large man took out an unusually large coat.

It had the same colour as my fur. It also smelled similar to me.

"Ooh, you know what this is? Good, I took quite a while to make this, you know? This fur is quite rare to find. I went to a village and found people with this material, so then I decided to kill them and used the fur to make this coat. Nice huh?"

"Sh-shut up."

"Huh? What's that? I can't hear you! Hahahaha!"

Anger was welling up inside me. The reason was obvious.

"Before I kill you people, I will ask one question."

"What is it? I don't have all day. Since you are going to die anyway, I'll grant your wish."

"Where is that village located?"

Before he finished his sentence, I pierced his stomach with my claws, pulling out his innards.

Guts were spilling out of his chest, blood sprayed everywhere on the floor.

"Ah, is that so. Thanks for the information. Now die."

Then large man was breathing heavily and staggered a little, before he dropped to the ground, landing in his own pool of blood.

I took the coat away with my clean hand and placed it on a coat hanger, far from where the other two men are, who were stuck in place due to what was happening.

"B-boss?"

"Oi, boss! You okay!?"

The two went up to the large man to confirm his safety.

"Now, you will regret ever coming into this house."

"HHHEEEEEKKKKK!!!!"

Those screams were the last thing I remembered before I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, I saw Risha holding me in her arms.

In a drowsy voice, I spoke:

"R-Risha, what happened? What did I do? Did I do something bad?"

"Shhh, it's alright. You don't have to remember for now."

"Y-yeah. You're right."

After we settled down, Risha, Hana and I sat in a circle in the living room.

"Okay, I will now properly explain what has happened, according to what I got from Hana."

Aah, Hana was watching huh.

"When you were about to kill the two men, you turned into a hideous monster. Not even Hana was able to make eye contact with you. After you killed the two men, you are up the three dead bodies. You collapsed on the ground afterwards."

W-what? That's terrible.

"I have no idea what has happened to you. I will try to find somebody to help you wit-”

"Stop. Don't say that. I'll be able to take care if it myself."

"Alright, I'll trust you. However, promise me one thing. Always call for my help when you are in trouble. I'll be there in a second, so never try to become 'that' ever again."

"Okay then Risha. I will swear to never transform into 'that'."

I wished that I could have protected that promise forever.

"Please, mama, don't become that monster again!"

"Sorry, Hana."

I held her in my arms and embraced her.

I'm sorry Risha, Hana, but I am going to break your promise.

The doctor flinched at the sudden transformation of Machi.

He had thought that she only had enough power to defend herself, thus he stood at a distance from her to attack with his scalpels.

However, this unexpected change caused him to step back a few times.

What is this monster.

The phrase kept repeating in his head multiple times.

Suddenly, he lost sight of her in just a few seconds. She had disappeared from her original position.

He had no time to wonder where she had gone, for a fist came from below him, knocking his jaw out.

The force was enough to twist his neck apart, but he activated a device he had prepared just in case.

Many metal strips encased the doctor, concentrating on the point of impact on his jaw to minimize the damage.

But, the impact was so large that most of the metal strips were shattered.

The force propelled him to the distant roofs of the slums. The monster followed by jumping roof to roof.

Every step the monster took destroyed a part of the roofs of the slums.

The doctor finally landed into a worn-down building several meters away from their house.

"Ouch... That hurt. Luckily I activated my other gadget."

A yellow marble he took out from his pocket disintegrated into thin air.

"I can't afford to be careless now-"

As soon as he said that, his felt a blow to his left side. Although the armour tried to protect the doctor, the angle and force of the punch caved the metal strips inwards, piercing his skin and breaking his ribcage.

Landing on the wall after the impact, the doctor coughed a ton of blood.

"D-damn you, damn beastkin!"

As he said his final words, a claw touched the right side of his face, pushing its hand closer and closer to the left, dislocating his neck.

At least that was what he thought had happened.

A black shadow suddenly appeared on the ground, engulfing him by so sinking him into the floor.

The monster was surprised at the sudden appearance of the black shadow. It tried to attack the shadow, but it disappeared entirely when the monster swung her claw.

As the monster was about to lose consciousness,

"Is that you, Machi?"

The monster turned its head vigorously, exposing its horrible teeth and sharp eyes towards two figures.

"Please, save Mama!"

The person with a smaller stature cried while begging the other persona.

"Don't worry, I will bring her back."
