The rest of the day went as normal but Chad was no where to be seen. Sometimes this was normal; he would play hooky but usually to be seen by the end of the day to tell me what he saw on his adventure. Did I say something to piss him off? I counted down how many days it was to my 18th birthday which was 4 - not including today. I huff at his locker at the end of school. I am so bummed that I couldn't joke about the whistle the our history teacher has every time she pronounces words with 's' and 'c'. But it wasn't the same without him there. This was unbearable.
Closing my locker and turning around, two cheerleaders pin me to the locker. Not any of them, the leader of the cheer squad, Jessica, and her right hand bitch, Tammie. Both blond, lean and a bit taller than I am. Tammie was black with long hair which curled in braids to her breasts and jessica was white and her eyes were green. They both wore matching lip glossed, twisted smiles. Jessica was also chewing spearmint gum.
"Where's your boyfriend?" Tammie taps my shoulder with her thin hand, "I don't see him anywhere, he's not even answering his phone about practice."
This was a shock to me, so I look around to see if there's a mistake. A crowd starts pooling around us and I really hope my make up stood the test of time.
"P-practice?" I stammer back to Tammie who was shoving gum in her mouth. "Are you sure we're talking about Chad?"
Jessica smirks and then laughs, "Oh, I don't think she knows, Tammie?" She purrs out in a sickly sweet voice.
"Oh, my, cheer! And he's not even here to explain." Tammie snaps her hip to the left and looks at me with a mean smile.
"Chad isn't my boyfriend..." I get out. It was a more of a one-sided crush on my side anyways but I do my best to not make it obvious but I guess today was that day I get called out.
The girls wore purses on their arms besides their cheer uniforms. "You know," Jessica plays with a bit of my hair, I pull away, "No one thinks you're pretty, and now that you're wearing make up and trying to impress him I think you're even uglier."
"What has gotten in you all of a sudden?" I ask, trying to push myself into the crowd and out of the situation. This was odd, like extremely odd. They never even acknowledge my excistance, this has to be a nightmare. Though Chad is one of the popular guys in school...
Someone pushed me back in front of them, one of the football players. The team acted like body guards around the cheerleaders, ready for me to escape. Oh jeez... I think to myself. I close my eyes and hope that either I can produce a magic shield out of the blue or Chad appears and explains everything.
But I'm just a normal human... I think depressingly to myself. Sanity Moone, the only non-magical person in my family.

"Sanity!" I hear Chad's voice behind the crowd. "Move!"
I open my eyes just in time to watch Jessica throw a punch to my face and Tammie lunges at me with clippers. I duck from Jessica's punch as if she was in slow motion and push Tammie away gently but she flies back into a jock. I hear gasps and cursing.
"Sanity!" Chad starts to push people away as he tries to swim in the sea of people.
"Sanity! Girls!" I heard a teacher as well running down the hall.
The crowd stayed and started cheering to me. Tammie and Jessica ludged towards me again and dropping my books I start running to the football player behind me and hope that the shove wasn't a fluke. I was smiling when the other students parted away from him before I shoved him down the hall. He groaned as she slid into unconciousness and I kept going through the exit of the school with people cheering for me.
I cursed at myself as I remembered I had to go back tomorrow and that I left my books but I will deal with that later. I stop when I felt the clean air of the outdoors. Home? No, Mom would be waiting for me furious at me and then wonder if I had hidden my magic away from her. Then where?
There was a park with swings in the middle of town so I headed there.
Glossar High was on the edge of Tonoro, a town that grew and rose after the 300 year war. It was nestled just at the bottom of Mt. Rainer in Washington where I guess a town called Sumner was. Most of the humans lived on one side of a river and magical creatures lived in the more country part of it where the trees and another giant river flowed through. Tonoro was the human portion of the city and Glossar High was just before the monster part.
I walked down a path that led me towards an average park in the corner of the human part of the city just before it turned into woods. It over looks the river that splits the two sides of the world and is one of the best co-creature park. Yeah, I live in a world where there are flying cars (but they can only go so far up) and hovering skateboards and what not but I preferred the old fashioned swings where I had to do all the work. (The self swing ones were on the other side.)
Facing the river I saw mermaids and sierns in the river, some woodland animals taking a drink and some other creatures peeping out of the woods. Chad never came to check on me but I never really let him know I come here often without him.
It was starting to get dark when I hear a faint voice from my right, "You do know you've been here for a few hours now."
Startled I look up and see a handsome man standing not far from the swings. I give him a glare and turn away, "What's it to you? Not like I'm harming anyone unless I've angered the park guardian."
I give him a once over; Tall, handsome, kind of on the pale side like me but he looked like he had an allergy to the sun. He wore a red button up shirt that was tucked in some black slacks. Wouldn't be surprised if he was some manager or something. I noted the sunglasses and a silver watch, which was rare since no one has wore those metal versions for years. Expensive.
"No," He said, lowering his sun glasses. So cliche, I thought to myself, "I was just concerned. I passed this was not too long ago and it seems you haven't moved."
"Well..." I said as I start to turn away from him, "I'm fine as you can see." I say as I start the walk home and wave back to him. It was starting to get chilly and I bet mom was starting to get worried. I forgot my backpack with my phone in it... I slip my forhead mentally.
I felt his stare in my back as I walked away like I was prey.
