Normally, I would be over the moon. Right now, the news about my grades felt like a 'fuck you' from the universe.

I tried to laugh, but all that came out was a choked sob.

Mom grabbed me by the cheeks making me face her and said.

I could not help but smile. Sure, it was an ugly one covered in my snot and tears but only mom could make me give such a heartfelt one.

I opened my mouth to argue. Only for her to put one of her delicate fingers over my thin lips and said.

Reluctantly, I shook my head.

"Good, now hop to it."

I was gently pushed off the bed and in a blink, I was somewhere in the woods.

I nearly had a heart attack as I turned the dampeners back on. The world once again felt duller, easier to understand, and fewer things to feel. The emotions from my pets at the house were all but gone and even my plant felt like she was under the sea, her feelings felt fuzzy. She was still going at it and if it were not for the benefits I got from my cats, I would have been completely dry at this point.

My own roiling emotions also felt more muted and I could think more clearly. I felt slightly embarrassed at my earlier outburst, calm rationale made me see just how right she was and acting emotional was usually only detrimental, I would know. But now I had to face a truly difficult daily challenge, my own home.

I distracted myself by using my severely crippled powers to check on my plant girl, putting my journey on autopilot.

First, I needed to name the girl, calling her plant girl would be a disservice to her and Ebony and Ivory. But to give her a perfect name I had to see what species she classed up into. In the case of my cats, I fed monster cores with specific properties to influence their evolutions turning them into variants, holy cat and shadow cat. But this one was completely natural, meaning no new abilities but in exchange, her core ones are going to be much stronger.

Practice made it very viable for me to create a profile of my newest monster girl. I could not help but chuckle, for most naming a new monster girl was any bond at all, for me it was 3-star. I took a bus for a more scenic route and more time to myself before I entered the hellhole.

I took out my S.A.I. watch and hovered it over my pants before activating the M.G. scan feature. I hovered it right over the constantly shifting green bulge at my crotch area knowing the core was near that area.

Within seconds there was a ding. I activated the hologram

I whistled, a triple class up with what was probably her base traits, monsters do gain more unique traits and some universal ones but most were at A class and higher. It is very unlikely she gained in new ones meaning I wasted some of her wide potential, but that meant her core traits were that much stronger which I guess was an okay trade-off especially since plant types generally had a higher quantity of base traits. Having a three-star bond was very expected, the one thing I was extremely good at and good riddance too, for civilians registering B class or above monsters was astronomically expensive as they incentivize you to sell the monster but if it is three stars that is free because they cannot remove the monster girl from you at that point.

Putting all that aside looking at my new permanent companion, the was one name that kept knocking at me so I decided it was good enough.

"Orchid."

I said rubbing my pants gently over the bulge because I knew that was where she was partially unshifted despite how it may look in public, which honestly was not all that weird.

"Your name from now on will be Orchid."
