The smell of alcohol and sanitizer, lingered in the air of the small clinic, as four-year-old Shin sat on a chair, on his mother's lap. Despite his slight dislike of it, he couldn't say no. He knew what it was to grow up without parents, so he promised himself that he would take care of them, in this life, Begrudgingly letting her do as she wished.
“Mom. Do you think I’ll have a cool Quirk?” Shin asked, his voice high-pitched yet filled with a surprising amount of maturity, tilting his head up to look at her. He was never a really good actor, nor did he want to pretend to be someone he wasn't.
“I’m sure you will, Shin. Everyone has something special in them.” Claire replied, brushing his unruly, auburn hair back from his forehead.
“Just remember, whatever your Quirk is, it’ll be a part of what makes you, you.” Her smile was warm and encouraging, but the flicker of worry in her gaze didn’t go unnoticed by him.
Of course, while he was never a huge anime fan, he knew what quirks were. And it was practically impossible to not recognize the yellow haired muscle man, All Might, on national news.
Not like you needed all might to tell you this wasn't plain 'ol earth, as literarily his next door neighbors were a family of deer-people, similar to how one of the main cast was.
He knew that all long everything followed the cannon storyline, like any other Shonen, he and his parents would be fine. Probably.
But he couldn't help but worry. He wouldn't let anyone take his parents away from him. Not when he finally felt what the warmth and love of a parent is.
No stupid ass nomu, or any villain would hurt his parents.
He would make sure of that, Quirk or not.
As if summoned by his thoughts, the door swung open, and the doctor, a short man with kind eyes and a reassuring demeanor, stepped into the room. "Hello there, miss Akahoshi."he spoke, kneeling to meet Shin at eye level. “And you must be little Shin."
Shin nodded, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and apprehension. He hopped off the chair, clutching his mother’s hand as they followed the doctor down a lit hallway.
He felt his mother's hand over his, squeezing his hand. it felt... nice. He never knew something as simple as holding a hand could be this emotionally charged.
The walls were adorned with more posters of heroes, inspiring tales of strength and courage.
And as always, All Might was Dead center, framed above the door.
The guy was everywhere, as far as Shin was concerned.
Once inside the examination room, Shin climbed onto the small examination table, his legs off the table, hanging on the air.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
The doctor began to examine him, asking him questions about how he felt and what he could do. Claire stood by, her gaze locked on her son, ready to support him through whatever news lay ahead.
After a brief examination, the doctor pulled up a chair and took a deep breath. “So, little Shin.” he began, his tone serious yet gentle.
“We’ve done some tests, and I have some exciting news about your Quirk.”
Shin's heart pounded in his chest as he leaned forward, his small hands gripping the edge of the examination table. He felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness swirling inside him. “What is it?” he asked, his child-like voice sounding out.
“Your Quirk is called Speed Surge!” the doctor exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with enthusiasm. “That means you can move really, really fast! Imagine being able to dash across the playground faster than anyone else. You could zoom like a little rocket!”
Shin's eyes widened, his imagination racing.
Speed huh? I could work with that. He thought to himself.
"So I can go really fast?"
Shin spoke, asking the doctor.
“Exactly! But here’s the cool part.” the doctor continued, leaning in closer to explain. “With your quirk, you can not only run fast, but you can also change speeds. It’s like having a special gear shift in your body! You can go from a gentle jog to a super-fast sprint just by thinking about it!”
The doctor spoke, continuing to explain to Shin making metaphors to a car gearbox(yes I am slightly copying gear shift let me cook>:[)
Shin's mind buzzed with possibilities.
“So I could… like, walk and then suddenly go really fast?” He spoke, excitement bubbling within him. Speed always was a good power, most of the time.
“Yes! And you can use it in many ways,” the doctor replied, his tone encouraging. “You could dodge things quickly, get to places faster than anyone, or even help people in emergencies. Imagine being a hero like All Might or your favorite Hero, rushing in to save the day!”
Shin nodded. While the prospect of putting his life on the line for Randoms was kind of off putting for him, heroes were probably loaded with cash. Not to mention that he could probably get protection for his parents. Crap. This was turning more and more complicated by the second.
Claire smiled with pride, her heart swelling as she imagined her son, saving people just like a hero.
“Oh! You’re going to be an amazing hero, My Shin."
She spoke, and started raining kisses on his head, making Shin grumble, and the doctor chuckle.
“That’s the spirit! But remember, you’ll need to practice a lot to get used to your Quirk. It’ll take time, but with your determination, I have no doubt you’ll be great.”
“Okay.” Shin replied, nodding.
“Just make sure to listen to your mom and dad, alright?” the doctor added with a wink. “They’ll help you train and learn how to control your speed safely. And who knows? You might even find new ways to use your Quirk that we haven’t thought of yet!”
Claire laughed softly, brushing a hand over Shin's hair.
"My boy always listens to me. He is the sweetest thing, I swear!"
"Mom please."
Shin spoke as both the adults laughed at his embarrassment.
