As the 12 Recon Teams went to scout the surroundings, Arnold took this time to monitor his base and as expected, the shortage of soldiers is making it hard for him to calm down because he doesn't have the forces to properly secure their position.
"Although there are about 2,500 support personnel as reserves, my forces are still stretched too thin, it can be a problem in case we were suddenly attacked by a larger number of enemies. I gotta level up as fast as I can and hope that solves my manpower problems." said Arnold as he saw the fatal weakness in his army.
While Arnold was talking his time looking around, he was also informed about the occasional reports from the Recon Teams, from the weird flora and fauna of this world, to its geography that is familiar yet alien to them at the same time. There were time when they were charged by wild beasts in the form of horned rabbits and tri-horned deer, but a few burst of their rifles made quick work of them. Arnold ordered their carcasses to be wrapped and sent to base for further study to learn more about their biology.
After a while, a report from 8th Recon Team made Arnold interested while listening to it.
"Command, this is Recon 8 Actual. We found a shoreline approximately 5 kilometers from MOB, how do we proceed over?"
'Hmm, a shoreline, maybe I can build a naval base there. No, Navy is still the least priority right now especially since we haven't charted the waters yet. Who knows what's out there.' thought Arnold as the idea of summoning a powerful navy is tempting but discards the idea as he chose to focus on his army instead.
"Recon 8 Actual, this is Command. Copy on your last, for now return back to base, over."
"Recon 8 Actual, Wilco, Out."
As few hours passed, Arnold started to get bored. In order to pass time, he decided to pass time by going to the firing range to get some practice shots.
"Charlotte, I will be on the firing range if you need me. I would like to take some practice firing some guns." Arnold informed Charlotte.
"My lea-, Sir Arnold, please allow me to escort you as it is my sworn to duty to always be by your side." said Charlotte as she doesn't want to leave Arnold's side.
"Mhm, alright, having a beautiful woman like you around will make it more pleasant." Arnold said earning a blush from his aide.
"*chuckle* You flatter me, Sir Arnold."
"Well then, shall we go Miss Charlotte?" Arnold invited.
"Yes, Sir Arnold."
Because Arnold doesn't want to walk all the way there, he decided to ride in style. He summoned the infamous Mercedes-Benz 770K and escorted Charlotte in before entering himself and ordered the driver to go.
After a short drive, Arnold reached the firing range with Charlotte where they can hear gunshots constantly reverberating.
'Hmm, it looks like my men are hard at work learning to protect our base which is basically our home now.' Arnold mused as he saw men aiming and firing down their sights.
"My Leader! It is an honor to be blessed by your presence. To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" a Captain said as he saluted Arnold to show his respect, as all the people there dropped what they were doing to salute their leader.
"At ease Captain, I came here to try out a few guns and learn the mechanics on how to properly fire them with Major Williams as my escort. I hope I am not bothering everyone here?" said Arnold as he dismissed them.
"Of course not, my leader! I will prepare a RSO and proper spot for you at once, sir!" the Captain said as he went away.
During this time, Arnold, who was a complete amateur in handling a gun, learned a lot from firing a pistol to machine guns and bazookas in the past few hours.
Satisfied with his quick training, he was about to return to his command center with Charlotte when a soldier came to him in a hurry, saluted and reported an urgent message.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
"My leader! The command center needs your presence. Recon Teams 9, 10, 11 has encountered a considerable amount of monsters 10 kilometers Northwest of the base and are currently monitoring their actions."
Hearing this, Arnold felt a foreboding as he and Charlotte quickly went back to the command center to hear the situation.
"Recon 9, 10, 11, this is Command. What's the sitrep, over."
"Command, this is Recon 10 Actual. We were scouting the terrain when we located what seems to be a village hidden in the forest, we first thought it was a human settlement so we sent scouts to observe them before making contact. It was at this moment that we realized the settlement was actually a gathering spot of what looks like an entire company of large bipedal feral pigs armed with clubs and blades. *Break* Seeing the situation, I called Recon 9 and 11 to regroup and further observe them from the distance, it doesn't look they noticed us yet. How should we proceed from here on out, over?"
'Bipedal pigs? Are they orcs? And they're dangerously close to the base? Looks like we need to take care of them before they become a problem and get some experience point while we're at it. I hope I level up from this.' Arnold thought as he encountered his first monsters in another world.
"Copy that Recon 10 Actual. Command has issued a 'shoot to kill' order on all hostile elements and all nearby friendly units in the area have been called to your position. *Break* You are permitted to use artillery and close air support, standby for 30 minutes while waiting for reinforcements, how copy, over?
"Solid copy, Command. 'Shoot to kill' order received, standing by for reinforcements, out."
With the transmission over, Arnold waited anxiously for the battle to be over.
Meanwhile, all around the base, a variety of actions are taking place: sentries on the walls manned their posts and are alert, artillery teams manned each howitzers dedicated to them, the 8 P-47D scrambled for takeoff, etc. For this operation, Recon 12, 1, 2, and 3 are radioed by Command to provide aid to Recon 9, 10, and 11 while the rest return to base at once.
......
[Recon 10 POV]
"Staff Sergeant, what's the plan to deal with those pigface?" a private that serves as a rifleman asked.
Hearing his private, SSG Raymond Thompson briefs his team along with Recon 9 and 11.
"Okay, this is the plan. We have In 30 minutes, Recon 12, 1, 2, and 3 will regroup with us, during this time we will coordinate both artillery and CAS to pound that settlement for 10 minutes, that should shave off their most of their numbers. After that, we'll leave a team behind to watch the vehicles while Recon 9 and Recon 3 cover our left and right flanks respectively, with all other teams performing a frontal assault, advancing while firing. Riflemen take point while Designated Marksmen and Automatic Riflemen provide support. If something block our way, I want the grenadiers to blow them up. After making sure all hostiles are eliminated, regroup and return to base. In case the whole operation goes FUBAR, we will retreat under artillery and CAS cover. Any questions?" SSG Thompson asked as he looked around.
"..."
"Alright, radioman, inform Recon 12, 1, and 3 of the plan and prepare to call in artillery and CAS." SSG Thompson commanded.
After half an hour, Recon Teams 12, 1, 2, and 3 arrived. Recon 1 is tasked to look after the vehicles while the rest commenced the operation.
"Meteor 8-0, this is Hound Dog 1, over."
"This is Meteor 8-0, go ahead over."
"This is Hound Dog 1, fire mission enemy troops, estimate company size, stationary, coordinates 1-7-9-3-2-2, my position 3-2-3-4-8-1, will adjust over."
"This is Meteor 8-0, sending you one round Willie Peter. Wait. Hound Dog 1 on the way...SPLASH, how do we look over?"
"Meteor 8-0, close but short, up 200, right 30, over?"
"Roger, Hound Dog 1. On the way, Wait...Splash"
"This is Hound Dog 1, target, fire for effect, over?"
"Wilco, Hound Dog 1 sending you 18 rounds HE and 6 Willie Peter. On the way. Impact in 8 seconds, over?"
"Meteor 8-0, this is Hound Dog 1, end of mission. Multiple hostiles neutralized, what's left are splitting up, over."
With artillery and CAS simultaneously hitting the location of the orc settlement, the orcs are shocked as they were not expecting an attack. High explosive and white phosphorus exploded in their camp as they scrambled around like ants looking for safety from this hellish bombardment.
When it stopped, they relaxed their guard when suddenly, they heard multiple loud roars in the air. When they looked up they saw flying objects that looked to be dropping something, when they saw it appearing closer it hit the ground close to them with a BOOM and the hellish experience occurred again.
SSG Raymond Thompson, seeing this orders the frontal assault, charging ahead with their flanks covered. After charging for a few minutes, they finally reached the settlement before opening fire on the wounded and retreating orcs. Seeing their brethren being slaughtered, the orcs regained their vigor and charged at the intruders.
Seeing this, the Recon Teams formed a line with the designated marksmen and automatic riflemen providing support. The hail of bullets and accurate shots from the STG-44,MG 42, and KP/-31; and SVT-40 and M1 Carbine proved too much even for their thick and study body that never experienced being hit by lead going supersonic. The bazookas were not even needed to take them out.
After a 20 minute firefight, the bodies of the remaining orcs lay dead 100 meters from the line held by the Recon Teams, they never even got close enough to deal any damage to the soldiers.
Approximately 200 orcs died from the bombardment while 80 died in the firefight. All the Recon Teams gathered the carcasses and what's still intact will be taken back for research while the rest will be burned with gasoline.
The whole process took more than 2 hours as the orcs' bodies are at least 3 times heavier than an average soldier.
After a long strenuous task, the Recon Teams took a quick rest before heading back to base.
