Chapter 3: A Gran Demon King III

Miseya Emersin’s arched dark eyebrows rose a bit before looking down at the Demon King with her usual expressionless face. She didn’t say anything and just kept staring at his side profile.

I knew it, feeling her gaze and silence, the Demon King added while turning to face her with a carefree smile, “To be something greater, of course.”

“… Something greater?”

“Yeah, something like a Gran Demon King instead.”

“…”

“What do you think?” he asked but nothing changed, she only kept staring at him, “…”

He waited for a moment but her reply didn’t come. He widened his smile and turned back to see the sunset and the already noticeable sparkling points in the sky.

At length, when the sky began to darken, Miseya Emersin opened her rosy lips while finally turning her gaze from the Demon King’s handsome side-profile, “Oh I get it.

“In a year everything will be settled, Master.”

“…?” The Demon King turned in puzzlement but he only faced the back of her fluttering brown hood and swaying short black hair; she was walking back to the inner castle.

I wonder what got on her mind… he thought, feeling guilty.

One week later a shocking announcement was made public throughout the demons’ land:

-More than four centuries have passed and our demon race has become stagnant in Our reign. Many are dissatisfied but there is nothing you all can do, and We can’t grant you your wishes. Hence, a change is needed.

As a gift and to allow Us reach greater heights, the last challenges for Our position had been scheduled once a month through an invitation already sent to the Thirteen Demon Lords.

We hope for a new Demon King to be born and Our greatness to be polished.

Hereby declares, the Demon King.

… What’s with this… that girl… the Demon King thought after hearing of this news from his second closest vassal, Eustass Camelor, a silver-haired handsome demon of sparkling green eyes and fair skin; he was the offspring of a silver moon wolf with an emerald six-winged snake.

“All right, you keep a check on it.

“There’s no need for you to be back to your past duties, Eustass,” he said while rubbing his forehead.

“Yes, and… Master mustn’t worry Lady Miseya knows what she is doing.”

“Haa~ I wonder. Only one month between each challenge, isn’t that calling to be defeated?”
