The week passed without incident in the small town of Enterprise, one of the most successful and rapidly growing towns in Northern Canada. Avyre's days were going by as they normally would. She woke up, went to school, brought happiness to everyone around her, and then repeated each day. It was a boring cycle, but it was all worth it to make people happy. Especially if she was happy while doing it too.
But the recent day's made it hard for her to make people happy, let alone be joyous herself. There were several people who dissapeared from the town of Enterprise, never to be seen again. There were also reports of people seeing animals wandering the area around the town, seemingly getting closer with each passing day. And probably the most unsettling thing was that these animals were not looking like the regular animals of today. It was mentioned that the wolves fangs grew sharper and longer, and their spines had something growing from them.
This incidents weren't only limited to Enterprise however. The national broadcast station of Canada, the CNBN, or the Canadian News Broadcasting Network, has been reporting for a week now about strange things happening in Canada and around the world. Specifically in Canada, there has been an extremely unnatural growth rate among animals, with some growig back to what they once were during the Ice Age. The network also told of how new species have been appearing; they weren't exactly new however. The "new" animals that were apearing were coming back from the dead, from extinction, and into the present time.
Woolly Mammoth's, North American horses, short-faced bears, saber-tooth tigers, and even glyptodon came back. Of course, they came with adaptations to survive in today's climate, but they still came back with hundreds of other species. As you would expect, scientists were baffled by this, and it didn't take long for most paleontologists, zooligists, and biologist to come back into the spotlight and go head on and research how and why this was happening. And while the scientists marveled at what was happening before their lives, some people went the darker route.
Poachers had an entire new buisness open up to them. They killed the animals, and then took several things from their corpses, like the elongated teeth or the new hid. This caused a lot of problems for the law enforcement agencies around Canada, but it calmed down around the time the week had ended.
Avyre however, couldn't let herself worry about the world changing; she had joy to bring to humans around her community. She was preparing to meet up with a friend of hers before she started to remember the news she watched beforehand. She had to forget the uncertainties of the world, and go on with her best to show. So, when finally all prepared, she went out to the cafe she was going to meet up in; The Lunacy. Contrary to the name, the cafe dosen't house any lunatics; it was was named after some event that happened in late 1800's with something to do with the Moon.
Coming into the cafe, she saw her friend, Cossero. He was a nice kid, that she enjoyed being around because he also brought joy to the people around him. Avyre ordered her usual, a hot chocolate, and Cossero ordered a coffee latte with a donut on the side. They sat down on a vacant table, and started to talk about their lives, almost like a couple. They shared a few laughs, before something strange happened.
The cafe started to shake. It was small and barely noticeable at first, but after half-a-minute passed, everyone and everything in the cafe was shaking. By that point, people who were standing fell to the floor. Then the buildings started to crumble, piece by piece. By this point, both Avyre and Cossero had ran out from the cafe with several other people. There was almost no one remaining in the building, except maybe some workers that were quickly running out. Avyre looked in shock, Canada didn't have earthquakes, and if it did, they were never this big.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
The earthquake kept going past the natural limit of thirty second to a minute and a half, making everything in the area Avyre was in completely collapse. It was almost like the apocalypse had begun for her but without the skies turning blood red or as dark as the night sky. After the earthquake finially finished two minutes later, the entire area had been demolished. The buildings became rubble, with stones littered about as freely as the humans on the streets. Some buildings even exploded, leaving fiery rubble in their wake.
From Avyre understanding, some people even died, as she judged by the wails of sadness and woe not too far away. Avyre was covered by a thin covering of dust from all the wreckage, but she didn't care about that, she had to go home to her family. Avyre got up, a little bit wonky from all her shock, and headed of towards where her home was. But she was cut short by a scream; it wasn't of sadness or despair, it was that of primal fear. Avyre stopped her entire body from moving a centimeter forward, and looked behind her. She couldn't see where the scream came from because of the clouds of dust surrounding her, but she knew the dreadful silence that came with the clouds was unnatural.
And then the world came crashing down. More screams came from the fog of dust, screams of people that were being hurt; their screams made it sound like they were being eaten alive. Avyre tried to move, but her legs refused to respond to her brain. So Avyre, out of desperation, closed her eyes. 'This is all a dream this is all a dream this is all a dream! I will wake up and see mom greeting me with a kiss and everything will go back to normal...'
Avyre opened her eyes and saw a body about two meters from her. It wasn't a human body, no it was something much fiercer than that. The face of the beast Avyre in front had slightly pointed ears, black, void like eye's, and a mouth with a row of teeth that were meant to tear flesh from bone. The body had a lot of fur on it and quite the lanky legs. Avyre realised very quickly that she was looking at a dire wolf, as no regular wolf was that size. The beast stared at Avyre, but after she opened her eyes, it sprang into action. The beast opened it's maw as it flying through the air, ready to tear Avyre from flesh to bone.
But right at the zenith of it's flight, the wolf was struck down by someone wielding a water pipe. Avyre, by this point, had fallen on her ass and brought her arms to her face. She looked to who it was; it was Cossero! He was here to save her from this hell, and she was relieved because of it. Cossero looked to where the wolf had fallen, realizing that it would get up very quickly. Cossero brought up his pipe, ready to defend himself and Avyre behind him. As the wolf was getting up, both the teenagers heard more screams coming from the fog of dust, more people getting torn up into bits.
The wolf, after it had risen, started to circle Cossero and Avyre, who had crawled to Cossero's leg. The wolf kept did half a circle before it finally decided to attack the two teenagers. The wolf went for Cossero, who swinged at the wolf; unluckily for him, the beast learn't from the first time. As Cossero swung down his pipe, the beast caught it with it's mouth, wrangling it from from his hands and throwing it to the side. The wolf than wasted no time and jumped onto Cossero, who had tried to stop it midair with his hands.
While the beast was jumping on top of Cossero, Avyre fearfully crawled away from the soon be corpse. SH esat, watching in horror how Cossero's pointless struggles were overun by the wolf''s strength. She wanted to help him, so she got up and tried to go for the pipe to try and knock the wolf down from Cossero's body. As she got up, she saw two more dire wolves appear from the settling dust cloud, and jump onto Cossero's body. His screams only intensified, his cries for help drowned out by the sounds of flesh being violently ripped from bone. Avyre stood there, wanting to help; but she knew she was too late, even if she could get the wolves off him.
So Avyre ran as fast as she could away from the wolves and her friend. She cried tears of fear and anguish as she ran, hearing more and more people get slaughtered like lambs at a butchery. With each passing scream, Avyre ran faster, wanting to not fall to the same as the butchered. Soon, she heard the wolves run, meaning they were on her tail and she will die fast if she can't escape them. She looked around, hoping to see something through the settling fog. She saw nothing but rubble, nothing that would give her any means to fight off the wolves. She will die.
But then, almost like a beacon of despair, something ran out from the fog. It was a dog Avayre had seen before only in the flower shop Ms.Juniper owned. 'But Ms. Juniper never let's her dog out alone...oh no...' Before Avyre could finish the wretched thought, the dog jumped out inbetween her and the wolves, making them stop in their tracks and look at the dog. Avyre didn't look back as she ran out ahead, feeling sorry for the little pupper.
Avyre kept running even after the whelps had began and stopped, and then she finally saw it, a building that hadn't completely collapsed. Half of it was missing, but that would be fine. In this situation, she would take everything given to her.
