4 Zombies

4 Zombies

4 Zombies

Myke looked around terrified. The zombies were coming from everywhere.

He brushed away his tears with the back of his hand. He couldn’t hold back his emotions after seeing what has happened to his fellow citizens.

He saw a fate worse than death and deep inside he immediately knew, that he will do anything in his power to avoid this fate. To avoid turning into one of these abominations.

Pumped with adrenalin from his new determination, he looked quickly around for a way out. He saw a narrow alley between two buildings and without any hesitation or giving it any thoughts, he ran over the short fence and into the passage as fast as he could.

Behind him, the growling sound followed. He took a short look and saw the mindless zombies pressing forward to enter the narrow passage. Some of the zombies were on the ground, but the zombies behind them just stomped over them and continued the pursuit.

‘At least the narrow alley slowed them down’

As he got through the alley, he saw that this was a dead end. He was in a closed backyard and the only in and out was the allay he came from. The sides were walled over 2.5 meters tall and in front was another building.

Myke looked quickly around feeling his heart pounding faster in his chest. There was no other way out, but to go over one of the walls.

He ran to the wall right of him and jumped at it grabbing the edge. He started pulling himself up and just as he put his right foot on top of the wall, he felt something grabbing his left foot.

He looked down and saw a zombie pulling his foot with both hands. He pulled his leg as much as he could and then kicked the zombie in the face. It wasn’t a strong kick, but it was more than enough to chop off its head.

The zombie stopped moving and Myke was able to pull his leg up just before the other zombies arrived.

He stood up on the wall and as he was about to jump in the neighboring backyard, he saw multiple zombies entering the area. In a matter of seconds, both sides of the wall were flooded with zombies.

His only choice was to walk on the wall towards the building at the other end. There was a balcony around 2 meters away from the top of the wall and it was his only chance.

Without losing more time Myke ran to the end of the wall and jumped to the balcony.

The moment he grabbed the balcony railing it broke from one side and fell down a bit.

Myke was hanging with his legs in the air. The zombies didn’t let the chance pass and grabbed them.

He started kicking furiously to free his legs. The zombies with their rotten bodies weren’t very strong, so he managed to kill a couple of zombies while trying to escape. The head of one of the zombies was blown away and the other one lost his hands and were stomped by his fellow zombies.

Freed from the zombies he managed to pull himself to the balcony. The zombies started gathering beneath the balcony. They couldn’t reach the balcony, but more and more zombies were coming.

As an overweight engineer, Myke wasn’t accustomed to so much physical struggle. He also just ate and even with this upgraded body, his full stomach couldn’t handle it anymore. He threw up from the balcony over the zombies below. The zombies didn’t even notice it.

Trying to relax a bit and come up with a plan Myke took a deep breath while looking at the zombies. He desperately needed a plan. He felt much better having a priority list. A plan to follow. Knowing what is next was his way of working. Even if the plan changes often, there would-be well-defined steps at any moment to follow. He avoided as much as possible making rash decisions under pressure without having enough information.

In short, his motto was "embrace change but always have a vision and a plan, how to reach it".

Making every decision as late as possible when you have as much information as possible was just logical. This doesn’t mean that he was indecisive and always postponed making decisions. On the contrary, he was famous for making the right decision at the right time and this was only possible when you have the needed information.

Thinking about a new plan Myke observed the zombies below. Not even a minute has passed, and they started climbing on each other. The rotting corpses started piling and the zombies came near to the balcony.

The balcony door was broken, so there was no problem entering the apartment.

The first choice was the front door.

The second choice was one of the windows.

He went straight to the front door, but as he got near it, he heard the sound of zombies coming up the stairs.

The second choice was the windows. The next building was pretty close, maybe two meters at most. The windows are mostly broken, so he could jump over easily. With the incoming zombies almost here, he overcame his fear in an instant and ran to the window, stepped on the window frame, and jumped.

A second later he broke through the window of the next building and rolled on the floor.

“Wow” – he screamed in excitement

‘This was much easier as I thought’

He felt great for a moment. With his previous body, this acrobatic was impossible. For him, this felt like a scene from an action movie.

Behind him, the zombies reached the window he just jumped off and started jumping right away in his direction.

It was a pretty surreal scene.

They didn’t put any effort into the jump and just felt off to the ground.

Some died right away, and some stood up only to be crushed by the other zombies jumping out of the window. A pile of corpses started to build up.

Myke was already familiar with this “strategy” of the zombies and didn’t want to waste any more time with them. The zombies were pretty weak individually, but they had the strength in numbers and no fear to die. Just the idea of an endless horde of fearless corpses made him want to throw up.

He made a new plan.

First, jump through several buildings to put some distance between him and the zombies.

Second, go on the street and run as fast as you can.

Third find a safe shelter, where the zombies can’t get to you. This was crucial, but he had already some ideas.

Meanwhile, the sun was up. He could already see pretty good in the dark, but now the colors were much more saturated and vivid. Although he felt great to be able to see without glasses with this incredible color range and sharpness, now with all the rotting corpses around it was more of a pain.

He went to the window on the other side. The buildings were in a row and it looked safe to jump again. He stepped some meters back, accelerated, and jumped through the window.

Breaking through the windows of the next building he rolled on the floor, stood right away, and continued to the next window.

After two more jumps, he felt as an Olympics champion. As always, he got carried away and careless and didn’t check the next building first. He thought that it was enough to see the next building and the window from far away. He accelerated and took the jump.

Midway in the air, he realized his mistake looking through the window of the next apartment. There was no floor!

Flying through the window he saw that even the floor of the apartment below was broken.

He fell almost six meters down to the basement.

He tried to roll, but the impact was too strong. He hit his left leg against some rubble and rolled on the floor in pain.

Nothing felt broken, but he was in pain and tired. Lying on the floor of the basement he noticed that the walls of the first floor were also missing. Something had exploded here leaving a big hole in the building.

There was no time to rest, he tried to stand up ignoring the pain in his left leg. Looking at the edge of the basement where he has to climb to escape, he saw multiple zombies coming. They didn’t hesitate and started jumping into the basement through the missing walls.

He punched the nearest zombie in the head with all of his strength.

There was almost no resistance and the head flew away, but the other zombies jumped on him and pushed him back.

He stumbled on some rubble and fell backward to the floor. As if they were waiting just for this the zombies jumped instantly on him.

“Go off me you filthy zombies” – he shouted trying to push them away

There were already six zombies on him pinning him down with their weight.

“Aaghraaa…” – strong pain came from his leg and he screamed

He looked at his leg and saw the zombie there chewing on something. Screaming he immediately tried to push the zombies away with his right hand.

“Go away you filthy bastards!”

Looking at the zombies before him he felt suddenly pain his shoulder and he felt fresh blood flowing down his back.

‘This is the end!’ – he thought

“AAAAAAAGHR” – another painful bite at his left arm made him scream even lauder

In sheer pain, Myke wasn’t able to think anymore. He could only scream now waiting for the end to come.
