Crossing his arms awkwardly while still holding the gun he decided his feet were a great thing to stare at. He wasn't so much looking at them and staring at nothing, I could practically see him flipping though mental pages and piecing things together.
"This started soon after I started using eyes shot, so um it stands to reason that may be the cause of this. I don't have enough information, so it's just a guess. Maybe, something in the menu— or turtual will tell us." He broke out of the slouch, standing a little bit taller. "When things calm down I'll finish reading it."
I nodded. "I think we'd better." Ron needs some weed, I still have one, I think? Now how to find the items again? This sure is different than the past system menu.
After calling up the battle menu the plain box with text faded away.

"What is this?"
The first one looked like a face? No, wait that might be the map, the other two were items a weapon and a bottle; no a potion. Potions healed or gave status effects. I tentatively tapped the potion button. When it indented showing my item menu I let out a breath I didn't realise I'd held. Preferably as a human again. A couple of taps later I used the weed on Ron.
ROSEY uses SUSPICIOUS WEED on AVERY.
It healed him only partially, but the swelling went down and some abrasions healed up. I'm begging inside that he isn't hurt any further and that we can beat the critters. I wipe the heat off my neck the heat radiating from them is getting worse. I know we can turn this around. Somehow. If we could just keep track how much hp everyone has... could use a gage or a monitor of some sort. What if...
Update:
System has strengthened touch screen, durability up 35%
Reactivating tangible mode.
Map, Attack and Item of the battle menu physical strength increased as well.
Character memorization of Menu up 150%
The other menus are still incomplete, continue to use verbal commands for them until they are released.

System coloration change is in effect, a visual indicator when the upgrade has completed.

Crude, but nevertheless fascinating embryonic pouches of H2O are unable to see the code change so it's a necessary, yet inane addition. 😁 😉
"What's with the attitude?" Is it trolling us? Is it misquoting Star Trek? I glared at the message, and pointed a finger at it. "This is not the time for jokes, we are trapped, my brother is injured and everyone's stressed." F-bombs scorched at the edge of her lips wanting to fly free. Getting overly mad at it seemed a poor choice. It seemed to almost... sulk before. A thought flew past, she grabbed it. A human must have somehow taken control of the system, as ordinarily it didn't act like this. Great another problem. Have to humor it more then, as who the hell knows how to fix this?
Holding my head in my hands, my thoughts started spinning around with wishes and complaints. A mental stomp later they faded away. Not now, we need to be safe first.

Ron's eyes drooped and he rocked back and forth on his feet, had better hurry another minute and he'll fall asleep... surrounded by killer animals. The news said the scientists were working on cure, but to stay away. How the hell can he sleep during this? My voice snapped a little, "Ron wake up!" He'd never acted like this before. Not good.
Ron startled and gasped lightly. He coughed. "Sorry."
"System is there a health gage or monitor that exists?"
The animals all had steam coming off their bodys now, the heat radiating from them warmed my skin.
"It seems their metabolism is increasing. Or maybe it's the illness giving an intense fever?" He edged away as far as the grid space would let him. My brother plopped down and rested, quiet.
Health Bars can be activated in the system settings. Say or think 'settings' then options.
I reached out, then pulled my hand back thinking better of it. "Settings. Options."
Options
Health Bar On Off
Main Menu
Exit Menu
Simple enough. After choosing on we waited. Avery looked around every once in awhile, Ron kept his focus my way. I took several glances at each animals, their backs were twitching a little. Don't like this, not one bit.

The health bar stared out as a dark lump then came into focus, it moved hovery near my face before going just above my head. It seemed to be sticking around. Ron and my brother also turned theirs on.
A shadow dimmed across my brothers face giving him an air of gloom that didn't mix well with his usual intense energy. Well, when things are calm. Uh, oh. Nothings normal. All this sucks. I hate this clearing. The deer take out the deer. I hope it's health bar shows soon. Unless it needs to get turned on? I would help knowing what animal is almost defeated.
The movement ring pulsed under me. If we can just get out of this mess in one piece that'd be great. However unlikely. I drew in a deep breath through my nose and slowly out though it. Too many what if's stomped through my mind. My mushy heart decided at this moment to make my throat start to burn up. This is not the time to think about everything that'll go wrong. That isn't going to help anyone. Pushing them away, I stared at the deer, choose all the commands selected the sword on the battle menu and highlighted it.
CRAZED DEER dodged the attack!
"Are you kidding me?!" I eyed it cautiously.
Swearing from both of them.
In a flurry of motion the deer chose the battle commands, bumped the button with it's nose and went strength for the attack. In series of complex steps it weaved in and out of view fading like mist and back again, it became faster then before and launched my face.
I leaned way, way, over to the side almost falling out of the square, air whistled past my head, and pain stung on the edge of my ear where a hoof grazed it. When the hell did it gain an ability? Was that an ability?
Rosey dodged the attack!
That was a waste! My palms were sweaty, I wiped them of on my shirt. Wish I could call someone to rescue us, but days ago our phones had stopped working, trying to call anyone simply brought up a strange static hissing noise. "
More wolves were padding down the westbound lanes, weaving in and out of the dark hulks of the stalled cars like tattered streamers of mist. One of them raised its snout to the sky and howled. The closest lion had its head down. The shoulders bunched powerfully above its neck. The tail was up, as if in the instant before he had turned to look it had been swishing back and forth, back and forth.
