Chapter 4 - Monsters and Dungeons

Abri continued to sit, thinking about how to make dungeons. Monsters would appear just fine without her. As she ran through her thoughts, a small cracking noise came from behind.

Sending out her mana behind, she felt a rabbit. Something about it was strange, as though it was magically enhanced.

The rabbit didn’t notice Abri’s mana, and prepared to jump, barring it’s fangs. Leaping forward, the monster rabbit found itself on the ground, two halfs bisected.

“That sure was quick. Should’ve brought a knife, can’t dismantle it well with a sword.”

Abri knelt down, and began to flay the perished rabbit, ending up with some meat, fur, and a strange stone. The stone seemed to hold some mana.

“Magic stones! Natural mana containers, made from mana. Works wonders for enchantment!” Abri joyfully said, using mana appraisal.

With a flash of inspiration, Abri sat back down and spread her mana even further, encompassing the entire woods. A couple monsters appeared in her sight, with only one meeting her requirements. Rushing over, she stabbed at the neck of the bear.

The blade glanced off, disturbing and awakening the bear. With its roar, Abri danced back. The bear stared hatefully at Abri, before lunging and swiping at her. Side stepping, Abri swung at its flank with the blade ignited. Howling in pain, the Bear gathers all of its mana to coat itself, enhancing its physical capabilities before swinging everywhere as it charges forward. Abri rushed forward as well, slipping past and stabbing at the neck once again, with lots of mana and flame empowering her strike. The bear tries one final strike, but it misses, and flops dead on the ground.

Pulling out her sword, Abri quickly gets the large mana stone within the beast and heads into its cave. Going in deep, she coats her hand in mana and punches a hole in the wall, placing the stone inside. Using all the mana within herself and the stone, she forms the rules needed for a dungeon. The cave rumbles, reshaping itself to match the requirements. Feeling satisfied, Abri gathers some ambient mana and seals the stone.

Heading home, Abri takes the bear and cooks the best meal yet, understanding the luxurious taste of mana infused ingredients. Feeling full and satisfied, she slips into bed and fell asleep.

“Jane, what’s going on! There’s monsters, magic, and you’re selling weapons made beforehand! You’ve only made swords on demand before!” Jane’s friend shouts.

“It sounds rather insane, Cain. A youngish girl came by, learned blacksmithing, told me she would make the world into a fantasy, and collases giving me a ‘system’.”

“She’s responsible for both!?”

“I don’t know. I do know now is an excellent business opportunity. Want a sword? I made it just for you, free of charge.”

“Ahhhhhh,” Cain sighed, his handsome face untwisting. “Fine. If the world’s going to be a fantasy, I’ll have to play along to stabilise it.”

“Fantastic. Here you go. Wait, do you know magic? It’ll be extremely useful in gaining power.”

“Yes, don’t worry,” Cain said, turning around and heading out. He soon calls everyone, afterall the mayor they all voted for is calling in person, during a crisis, who wouldn’t listen.

“Listen up! The world is changing! But do not fear! Death too has vanished! Monsters and magic are no longer parts of books and movies! Now is the time to grow! A new job will soon appear, Monster Hunting! We have the chance to get in on this major industry now! We can sell our knowledge to the world, and make a fortune! With that, we can stand on top of this new world! Those of you who wish for a fight, fame, or fortune can hunt the monsters! Those who wish to create can learn magical enchantment and other creative equipment trades! Those who wish to learn the secrets of the world can study the secrets of magic, the system, monsters, and all else! Now is the time to get up and make yourself, your ancestors, and your descendants proud!” Cain yelled, with the crowd, slowly beginning to nod.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Yeah! Let’s do it!” “Jane, got any weapons!” “Magic! Magic is real!” The crowd yelled, rushing to many businesses to get the tools of their future trades.

Cain watched them all, seeing those who got armor and weapons, and gathered them together.

“We’ll go in groups. The woods have monsters, and we don’t know how strong they are. We’ll work together, become ‘parties’. Gathering together, we can make a guild. If we do this right, we can become worldwide famous. Everyone, let’s do this!”

“Yeah!” the crowd yelled, splitting into groups and heading into the woods.

Abri woke up the next morning to a strangely active town. Placing the stone in her bag, she cleaned her sword and headed to Jane’s smithy.

As Abri headed in, she saw a bunch of her classmates trying out a bunch of weapons.

Swivelling her head around as she walked, she reached the counter.

“Ah, Abri, you’re back. Come for a sheath?”

“Yeah, forgot about it. And a knife. What’s happened though?”

“Cain gathered everyone and made them prepare for the new world. Heard He’s making a guild too.”

“Wow. Anyone buying magic stones yet?”

“Hrmm… I think the RM store. They’re materials after all.”

“Got it. So, how much for the knife and scabbard?”

“Free, you’ve made me enough money already.”

“Well thank you. I gotta head out of town now though. I need to get a very strong monster to automate dungeon formation.”

“You made a dungeon? I’m not even surprised anymore.”

“Well, goodbye, see you later!”

“Bye,” Jane said, deciding to ask Cain about the dungeon later.

Abri hurried over to the RM store, and upon exiting, she stood outside, staring at the forest now populated with monsters and a dungeon. A smile crept onto her face, and with a mumbled “yes,” she headed to the train station. There was a monster that held a strong enough Magic stone to automate the process. She had to hurry, who know who could kill it in the meantime.

“The dungeon? It’s weird. It seems like the forest monsters revive there. But the stones are great. Our mages are collecting them to make magic staffs.”

“Aw, can’t get every weapon under my belt. Oh well.”

“So, who did this?”

“Hrm? Oh, Abri Cath. She should have left town by now though. Got to get a good enough magic stone to automate the dungeon formation process.”

“Ah, that’s why you asked about the dungeon. Heard it from her.”

“So, what are you planning? To recruit her? Kill her?”

“She’s a disaster. She made monsters for fun. I’m getting some mages to make a powerful seal. Keep her locked up for a hundred years, and keep her from making everything worse.”

“That’ll be a shame. Can’t you make it 20 or so?”

“50.”

“Good enough. You’re gonna need good weapons for this though, and maybe metal armor. Get me good supplies and I’ll make them. It’ll be high quality, trust me.”

“Is she strong?”

“Almost certainly. She learned everything I know in a month. She learned enchanting in a couple minutes. She has a learning talent, no doubt. It’ll take everything you guys have to seal her. You gotta be quick though, she’ll only get stronger, and much faster than any of you.”

“Ahh. Why are you even telling me this? Aren’t you her friend?”

“I’m a merchant. If anyone needs something, I got it. Friend? Enemy? Got money? Now you have a sword.”

Cain shook his head, and headed out. The seal would need only the strongest materials. Powerful magic stones would be needed as well.
