There were six soldier corpses in this room, Wolfram lifted them all up and searched for any cards. As he was right now, he totally believed what he read in the dark card, no matter how ludicrous it sounded. After all, he had seen more absurd things.
He was feeling extremely happy, and if his guess was not wrong then all the people in the world were affected by that earthquake. The world must be in chaos right now which was why no one came to save these soldiers after such a long time. He didn't know for long he had been unconscious but it couldn't have been more than a day, at the most.
Fortunately, his efforts were worth it as he found four cards hidden under the corpses. two of these cards had the word 'Strength' on them, as for the other two, one had 'Perception' and the other had 'Speed'.
Wolfram picked them all up and inspected them, he didn't know how to use them or activate them so he took out the main dark card and started tapping, trying to see how to profit from these stat cards.
After spending a couple of minutes trying to figure this problem out, he finally found the solution, which was something rather unexpected and stupidly simple.
He thought he needed to speak some words or swipe the cards in the air but in reality, he just had to crush them using little force. As he did so, the first Strength Stat card, shattered and transformed into a weird black light that flew to his head with lightning speed.
Apparently, the amount of stats that was added was not fixed, the second Strength card only gave him 0.2 strength, as for the other two, one gave him 0.2 speed and the other gave him 0.4 Perception.
"Ah Ah! This is wonderful! I've missed the feeling of freedom."
Wolfram cacked manically as he saw the corpses around him. He had always been a notorious maniac for his fervent love for fighting. He didn't enjoy killing weaklings but absolutely loved combatting worthwhile opponents.
Wolfram looked around and noticed the absence of the commander, which made him grin menacingly.
"He must not have escaped far... hehe I'm looking forward to seeing the look on his face when I show up... ah! I really can't wait, my blood is boiling!"
After one final look at this room, which was supposed to be his final resting place, he pushed the last bit of rubble and debris that was blocking the entrance and exited the room at last. What welcomed his sight was a long gloomy corridor where the light was flickering every few seconds, making this place look like some kind of a horror film scene.
Wolfram didn't leisurely walk around, he held the rifle and proceeded down the corridor without making any loud noises. He skillfully and soundlessly walked around, his heartbeat calm and breathing quiet and periodic. The soldiers here were not the usual run-of-the-mill weaklings. They were hardened veterans that wouldn't hesitate to kill.
As he was sneaking through the dimly lit corridor, he heard a weird sound that alarmed him a bit. It wasn't an ambush but something from the Card System: A flashing red card floating in front of him.
[(Sneak Lv1) acquired! +0.1 Card Points.]
The card remained for a few seconds before it vanished on its own. Wolfram took out the dark card to see what happened only to discover that his CP did indeed increase by 0.1. He didn't use the unexpected bonus and just tapped on the new golden word that appeared.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
He found this [Sneak] skill and, as the name implied, it allowed him to remain undetected as he snuck around around.
'It seems I can gain CP through skills too, great!'
While grinning happily, the ecstatic man put away the dark card and continued sneaking around.
After he walked for a short bit, he stumbled upon two soldier corpses that were stabbed in their neck and heart respectively. Wolfram checked the bodies and concluded that they were pierced by a sharp and long object. A simple military knife wasn't capable of such a feat.
He searched for any stat card but unfortunately found none, so he proceeded onwards while still keeping his guard up. He had been unconscious when they brought him to this facility so he didn't even know where he was. He was only certain that he was in Japan, but he was ignorant of his exact whereabouts.
After walking a bit more, he found a reinforced metal door similar to the one he had seen in his room. It was already opened and what made him not rush there immediately was the sounds coming from inside.
he heard crunching sounds that were disgusting and unpleasant to the ears, therefore, Wolfram carefully got closer to the door and leaned his head a bit to see what was going on.
The first thing his eyes landed upon were two green midgets on their knees, seemingly busy devouring the gory corpse of a fallen soldier. They were grabbing his intestines and eating it as if it was something delicious.
Wolfram wasn't that surprised when he saw them, he just grinned at the sight of the grotesque goblins.
They had sharp and pointy yellow teeth, big noses, hideous faces, and slim and small bodies. They were wearing dirty loincloths that hid their dangling genitals and had small daggers hanging on their waists. They were so engrossed in their feast that they didn't notice the human creeping towards them.
'So it's not just magic but monsters too.... it's going to be fun from now on. Alas, these ones will provide me with little sport.'
He stared at the back of these two goblins with a chilling smirk and bright eyes that didn't fail to show his rising excitment. He had always been a lawless person, so with such monsters present on Earth, things will drastically change. It was going to be be survival of the fittest, where the strong ruled and the weak died.
'If i'm right, then the entire world was subjected to this unanticipated disaster. Society will collapse and humanity will return to the old ages. Laws and societal status will no longer mean anything.'
Very soon, Wolfram no longer hid his body, he put the rifle to the side and dashed straight at the two goblins with impresive mobility. He was an assassin who was adept at sneak attacking his targets and though killing two measly goblins wasn't particularly thrilling, it was better than nothing, at least for now.
The glistening military knife was skillfully grasped by him as he slashed at the back of the goblin's neck.
The room wasn't that big and the distance between Wolfram and the goblins was approximately four meters, hence, when he sprinted toward them, it barely took him two breaths to appear on their flank and land a fatal attack on one of them. The flesh was cleanly cut by the military knife, which swept horizontally, cutting the vulnerable green-colored skin.
Feeling the nostalgic feeling of the skin being cut and stabbed by the knife, Wolfram let out an excited laugh as he violently kicked the body of the injured goblin and turned his focus to the other one, which shrieked loudly and grasped its dagger, clumsily waiving it at him.
Seeing the incoming danger and feeling the thrill of the battle, which he hadn't experienced in a long time, Wolfram cackled as he slashed the dagger at the attacking goblin, cutting the dominant arm it was using to swing its poorly-made weapon.
The goblin painfully wailed as it dragged its body to escape from this sudden enemy which appeared out of nowhere. It struggled to get out of the room only to be kicked in the stomach by Wolfram, who put his foot on its chest, immobilizing it while leaning his face closer to the goblin's head to get a closer look.
"Aren't you an ugly motherfucker? I was expecting your fighting to compensate for your ugliness but it doesn't seem like the case. A true shame, that."
Dissapointed, he shook his head and then violently kicked the monster's skull with enough force to kill it.
