DING-DONG! I’m awakened by the sound of my doorbell, baffled. As the realisation washes over me, I take a glance at my alarm clock. It’s 8:00! I can’t believe I overslept!
“Com-ing!” I say, in my best I’ve-been-awake-for-a-few-hours voice. Quickly, I scramble through my closet for something to wear, wash my hair, and open the door.
For our date, Sacho’s wearing a blue dress that goes up past her waist. It has frills on the ends of the shoulders, and she’s wearing white sandals to match.
“Are you ready?” She asks, wearing her usual grin.
“Yeah, I’m ready!” I answer.

Today’s the first day of summer, and the park could never feel more lively. The warm, gentle sun tickles my face, as the breeze soothes my skin. The bright-green trees add so much to the lively feel, and I could never feel more happy.
“Oooh, What a nice day!” Sacho says, Ecstatic.
“Yes, it’s always like this around this time of year.”
We look around for a spot to sit, so we can enjoy the view. After scanning the park for a bit, I find a nice spot.
“We can sit here,” I say. “It’ll be a very nice place to sit.”
After we sit down, I remember what I wanted to ask Sacho. It’s something that’s been on my mind ever since afternoon yesterday.
“Hey, Sacho?”
“Yeah?”
“I still don’t understand something…I feel like you’ve barely known me for a day, and you’re already going on a date with me.”

“Oh, that’s easy. I know you better than you think.” Sacho answers, casually. “I remember how you’d open the door for me at school, when all the other boys said it was ‘old school.’ You wouldn’t swear or threaten people who were nasty to you, and you were generally very affectionate to the people who you knew. Those are all the traits of someone who I respect and show interest in.”
God, I forgot all about that. I definitely prioritise etiquette a lot, but I forgot how the other boys treat the girls at school. More like crap than humans.

After we get bored looking at the view, we go into town. After a while of walking, we find a nice place to eat. After a while of searching, we find a nice steak house. We go inside, get seated, and order our food.
“What are you gonna do after this?” I ask.
“Well, I was thinking to just stay in my apartment for the rest of day, since I don’t have anything to do. Actually, that reminds me, The Council can’t afford to give me any more currency. Human currency, at least. Do you have a sleeping bag, or something that I can sleep in?”
Hmm…I have a sleeping bag she could stay in. But I’m not sure my parents would be okay with that.
I tell her that I’ll ask my mom and dad about it.

“Of course Sacho can stay with us!” Mom rejoices. “It’ll be like having a new member of the family, you know, it seems like just yesterday…”
Aaaand here we go again. Another one of mom’s talk-a-thon’s. Better hold my breath out here.
“Amanda, are you sure about this?” Dad questions. “We’ve barely gotten a chance to meet Sach-”
“Oh, stop overreacting, Hubert! Don’t listen to your father, Niko. Any day, anytime, Sacho’s welcome here!”

“So I can stay?” Sacho asks hopefully. I’m on the phone with her, telling her the good news.
“Yeah, my parents are okay with it. Or my mom is, anyway. I will warn you, there’s a lot going on in my house, with my birthday coming up.”
Sacho raises an eyebrow, then smiles. “Hey, you never told me your birthday’s coming up! When is it?”
“In one week.”
“Oooh, I’ll have to prepare a birthday present!” Sacho gleefully remarks. “I can’t wait! I already have the perfect present.”
“Well, someones excited! Anyway, you can come here right now, if you’d like.”
DING-DONG! Wait, there’s no way…
I put down my phone, push open my wooden door and sprint down the hallway. I jog down the stairs and open the front door.
Sacho’s standing there, her suitcase in hand.
“There’s a lot of perks to having access to witchcraft.”
After we set up Sacho’s sleeping bag, I crawl into bed, and close my eyes.
