Chapter 6 Punitive force to destroy the Goblin city part 3

Calm Before The Storm

The next day passed with no incidents, they were able to hunt down several scout groups successfully, but Miyuki was still weary of the herms guild who had attempted to kill her platoon and assassinate her. Miyuki had been in lots of potentially deadly situations but she had always been able to handle things because of her unbelievably strong interference force and her magical powers. Not mentioning the fact that Tatsuya would almost always never let the situation excel to the point she needed to interfere to that extent. But she couldn’t use her interference strength in this world or her mental interference magic, furthermore Tatsuya was not around. Insecurity filled Miyuki but she kept a beautiful smile on to try and support her platoon as much as possible. To be safe she had rouges scout the area and leave traps that would act as warning signals. She has been trained since birth to lead and she was set on doing just that.

By the third day the survivors of the goblin attacks were bored and agreed to join Miyuki’s platoon until their leaders returned. Miyuki was able to interpret them into her formations making 8 squadrons of 25. They were able to handle the larger goblin scouts and what looked like the goblin hunting parties with ease. Their average level had raised a lot but Miyuki was still unsure if they should engage with the higher level scouts even though the platoon thought they were ready. The higher level scouts were only a group of 50 but were level 250+ and their patrols move very fast so if Miyuki decided to assault one patrol another would come every 20 mins to reinforce them. After thinking for a while she sent some orders.

”it will be difficult to challenge the goblin knight’s scouts because they have constant reinforcements form other scouting parties…..”

She had an idea what if they make the goblins chase a rouge and lead them into a trap just as they had been doing with the lower level patrols. It seemed to work well when the herms guild did it to them. Also the goblins were obviously dumb enough to follow.

“ok change of plans we will move closer to the city and ambush the higher level scouts using the same tactic, but we will form 4 groups of 50 and engage the goblins on two fronts and cycle through the squads until the patrol is killed.”

Because of the additional players in Miyukis platoon they were a lot more warriors/knights; they had enough health and defence to survive the surprise attacks. Miyuki slight rearranged the front line of the troops, the vanguard would have 2 groups that would cycle between the shield and sword wielders at the front to prevent the enemy from getting too close having pike and spear users behind dealing massive damage. They would swap places whenever the front line tanker would fall to 40% health. This created a much more stable vanguard so the archers and mages were able to focus completely on their tasks. Before every so often a goblin warrior would get passed the front line and cause chaos within the squadron before it was killed.

“This is not good, from what our scouts say Miyuki’s group has killed over 1400 goblins and their platoon has taken in all the survivors doubling its size. We have only been able to kill about 900 so far because only member’s commissioned form this quest will get contribution”

“We’re fine on captain Tryndameres side he suffered heavy losses today when he engaged with the goblin knights with few numbers”

The herms guild was troubled at the turn of events, another platoon had doubled in size and was now clearing all the scout groups with ease, there was very few large lower level scouts left that they could farm and the hunter groups and advance scouts parties were difficult to deal with only 100 people.

“It’s because we wasted the first day taking out the other groups. Don’t worry we will overtake them soon and in 2 days captain Miyuki’s platoon will be reduced to half we have nothing to worry about” Bad Ray said with a confident voice, even though he wasn’t the leader his opinion counted the most. The guild had just recently gone public announcing the power of Bad Ray as the strongest in the continent. This had caused commotion in the forums to begin with but after a few videos in the hall of fame he had gained the public support. Furthermore Bad Ray was fairly famous in the gaming community because of his previous guild in the continent of magic.

Everyone agreed with him and their secret meeting was over, but they also all agreed they needed a backup plan in case something went wrong.

Dealing with the advance scouts ended up easier than she thought, it seemed she was worried over

nothing. Once the scouts had been baited far away from their normal scout group by a series of rouges, the warriors and knights were able to hold the front lines while the archer took down any mounted goblins. Furthermore the large area of effect slowing spells reduced the goblins fighting capability by a lot. Whenever one was able to overpower the vanguard Miyuki would step in and stun or fear them for a second thanks to the mask and they would quickly get killed. The battle lasted only half an hour because they had 4 time that of the goblins and were able to overwhelm them quickly. Everyone was pleased because the item drops from these goblins was much better and because they were over 50 levels higher than the average player everyone gained a lot more experience from a fewer number of foes.

For the rest of the day Miyukis platoon repeated this tactic until the sun had set. They headed back to the camp after another day of killing monsters nonstop for over 12 hours. There was a couple of close call where the hunter groups would be attracted by the fighting and they were forced to fight on two fronts but the platoon pulled through because of Miyuki’s overwhelming firepower when it was necessary. They all returned to the camp exhausted, as they entered they saw captain Tryndamere had a tough fight with many from his platoon missing, and the herms guild were still at full fighting strength. Many of the platoons were in the late 180s level and were hoping to reach level 200 and their second job advancement s before the main siege began. This ment they were trying their best to keep up with Miyuki’s orders but they were exausted, Miyuki noticed this and decided to give them a break on the 5th day when all the platoons returned. But until then they had a lot to work to do, she joined her platoon for a nice dinner then they all went to bed or logged off.

The fifth day came with no incidence and Miyuki gave her platoon a day off, the players that were able to log back in returned to form their respective platoons. They when out immediately to try and catch up on the time lost. There was 2 days to the main siege and Miyuki had a look at the quest progress.

This was troublesome even though they had killed over 2000 goblins the total goblins did not decrease; in fact there was a small increase. Unable to understand whats going on she shared this information with Leez ,Nana, Prina and Hope.

“eeeehhhhhh, but we worked so hard”

“not fair”

“Hmm this is weird if infact there are still 5000 goblins in the city we will lose the main battle before reinforcements arrive, it might be a glitch. I’m going to log out to check something. I suggest telling the other captains about this” Prina said with a worried tone, she always talked in a formal manner but everyone had gotten use to it.

Prina was infact a daughter of one of the major shareholders of Unicorn corporation the creators of Royal Road. She had access to information that others where unaware, which is how she became the first paladin. Also she was a secret GM. GM is short for game moderators, royal road have no need for GMs because its AI was able to handle everything but as a backup unicorn hired a few to handle more sensitive situation that the AI could not fully understand, like love quarrels.

After logging out she logged back in as a GM, her body was the same and she was right next to Miyuki but she was intangible like a ghost. Now one could hear or see her but she had access to system windows that others did not. Looking through the windows she found what she was looking for quickly.

“oh my god, WHAT IS THIS!”

As a well raised young lady she was trained to hide her emotions but she was in shock from what was in front of her.The schematics of the goblin city. In fact it was two city’s, one underneath the other. Quickly regaining her composure even though there was no one around she felt slightly embarrassed and then quickly focused back on the issue on hand. The city below had dwarfs captured who were making weapons and boasted a population of 1500. She concluded that when a goblin died in the city above a goblin below would take its position. That means they had over 10,000 goblins double what they were told. And the worse part of all of it was that because she was a GM she is unable to pass or play like she knew this information or the AI will recognise it as abuse of her position and she would be banned.

“Dammit” Grinding her teeth in annoyance she logged out and re-entered the game as Prina.

This game was the one place she could openly express herself without judgment form the upper echelons of society she has been been surrounded by since birth.

There was a displeased look on Prinas face, she had only been gone half an hour but she had a look that said that we were all in a situation of inevitable doom. Miyuki was the first to speak up.

“So it is not an error, there are actually over 5000 goblins in the city?”

“I cannot say” Prina said with a poker face, she flatly refused to answer she could not reveal anything or the AI will punish this whole expedition.

Worried at Prinas change in attitude made Miyuki decided to call all the captains and inform them about the situation and to hold a meeting tonight. Miyuki also sent one of her rouges to inform the royal knight Liam and the army. If they were to attack the city they would die without accomplishing anything. The goblins had enough troops to fend off the players while defending the city. Also the goblins had become more cautious, their movement outside the city had been reduced to collecting wood and food from fields and forests very close to the city. There was an underground river supplying them with water so they could hide in the city for an extended period of time.

Miyuki tried asking Prina a couple of more questions but she refused to answer anything. Realising that she was putting Prina in a difficult position she backed off and went to her tent to think of a strategy. Unable to concentrate Miyukis mind ended up drifting towards Tatsuya and she began to miss him and everyone back home. Refusing to let herself feel depressed she called Tatsuya.

“Oni-sama”

“Miyuki how are you, did that herms guild make a move again? Don’t worry I will be there soon” When Tatsuya heard of a guild attempting to kill Miyuki he went on a rampage and broke past several border controls…Kingdom of heaven and kallamore kingdom seemed to be in a state of cold war but Tatsuya ignored all checkpoints, killing anything in his path. He had been running for last couple of days non-stop, and was just about to take a nap when Miyuki called.

“No they have stayed quiet but I can tell their planning something. I have another problem I need Oni-samas power”

Miyuki was embarrassed she disliked asking Tatsuya to use his powers, she never wants to abuse the power of her brother even though she know that he wouldn’t hesitate to kill for her.

“ok, what do you need?”

“You know about the quest I am on… there seems to be a lot more goblins that we were told and they are a lot smarter and well-armed”

“I see so you want me to have a look”

Tatsuya had a direct link to the information dimension normlay he could only see upto 24 hours in the past in an area of a about a Km3 from his position but since this was virtual distance not physical distance he found out there was no limit to the area he can observed and the time he can observe into the past seemed to have been multiplied by 4. He had been using this to keep an eye on Miyuki now that they are not connected. Tatsuya concentrated and found the location of the goblin City, it seemed she was right there several thousand living beings in the city along with a underground city with several dwarfs amongst the goblins. He relayed this information to miyuki and reassured her that he would make those who would harm her pay. Even as he said those words his voice sounded warm and nice to miyuki. But to Tatsuya they had touch what they never should have, stepped over a line they should have never crossed. (more on about Tatsuya in Volume 2 :P)

-since killing them is pointless in this world ill just make them feel pain- Tatsuya thought as he began to run again

If only Tatsuya and Prina had looked deeper into the ground they could have foreseen the disaster to come.

A meeting was called; all the captains along with some sub-captains were gathered in the largest tent. There was a lot of chatter and discord between everyone, the tension was high since the news of the goblins numbers was spread amongst the punitive force. None of the scouts they had sent to the army had returned with any news and the Goblins had changed their patrols. Lastly and the thing that was most likely going to start a fight was the suspicious herms guild. They were silent throughout all this and had a very good public image. Their guild was strong and fairly famous with several nobles in their pockets. They had a lot of influence but what was not public was how they backstabbed and stepped over other guilds, while having a charismatic high level player as their front Bad Ray.

There several guilds who knew of the herms twofaced guild and had suffered under their schemes in the meeting.

Miyuki had gained lots of reputation and respect from the other captains for taking in the stray players and successfully commanding them in battle. This gave her a great amount of authority in this meeting. She was beginning to feel fed up with all the captains, all they were doing is arguing and blaming each other, without her knowing she began lowering the temperature of the air around her. The sound slowly dissipated while peoples drink froze and a sheet of ice began to form around them.

A hand landed on Miyuki’s back which jolted her out of her frustrated mood cancelling the magic.

“Captain Miyuki, your magic” Prina said softly. She was amazed at Miyuki’s power also that she found out about the goblins sub-terrainian city. -What sort of powers does she have- Without realising it Prina had become infatuated and began admiring Miyuki.

The tent was silent

“ah sorry that happens when I get a bit annoyed” Miyuki said with a smile, a smile that made everyone think twice before speaking again.

“so let’s begin, we have several issues to address” Miyuki decided to take charge after the moment of silence by getting straight to the important points

“There seems to be double the goblins that we were told in the quest, when we kill a goblin another seems to replace them form a City below the main city” Miyuki didn’t stop there she wanted to say everything then begin the discussion and decision making so with no pause for interruption she continued. She also increased her voice slightly letting off an aura that made the others feel like speaking would not be tolerated, like they were children being told off.

“Since our attacks the Goblins have changed their patrols witch now consist of about 200 High level Goblin knights, Goblin riders and Goblin soldiers, also they stay a lot closer to the City so when engaging the expect goblin reinforcement within 20 mins. There are still several gobbling hunting parties though. Lastly we have not been able to contact the royal knight and the army at this point so we have to assume that the attack in two days will continue as planned”

She decided to hide the information about the dwarfs for now.

Once she finished everyone was in deep thought for a while. Bad Ray was the first to speak, with a charismatic voice, “don’t worry the herms guild will call up its forces for the attack we can rally over 500 strong members”

To Miyuki he was a plain arrogant man responsible for killing hundreds of people. She knew that this wasn’t reality but since she decided to treat this world as reality she could not forgive such a man. Miyuki stayed quiet but the other guilds did not, they saw his declaration as a challenge and each pledged their forces to join the battle. This was a good outcome Miyuki thought but still she couldn’t trust the Herms guild, captain Bad Ray had a look in his eyes like he planned this from the beginning.
