With a sweeping glance Rose found himself in the middle of a small village, with very few additional players around, each doing their own looking about after just entering the game. With a thought of 'Status' a window popped up.
Undefined Class Assassin Hidden Class None Level 1 0/1000 Health 100/100 Mana 150/150 Stats STR 10 AGI 10 INT 10 PER 10 DEF 10 RES 10 CHA 10 WIS 10 LUK 10
Rose took a quick glance before deciding that it was easy to read and understand, the only stat he was unsure of was RES, and while he could take a good guess as to what that was there was no harm in making sure and with another thought a second window popped up.
RES
A stat that increases your resistance to effects and crowd control. Posion, stun, curse etc.
His guess was right, closing the windows down Rose set out to just explore the place he had been sent to called "Diaal Village" if he was to go by what his HUD was telling him. Spotting what seemed like a small marketplace between the cluster of huts, he set out.
Strolling through the marketplace, it was safe to say there was not much to see. At this point he was kind of regretting selecting random, but at the same time, there weren't many other players so that meant that he would be able to hog more of the resources around this area -Referring to exp, quests etc here.- Without any idea as to where to start Rose decided to just venture out of the village and into the wilderness. Each player started out with a weapon according to their class, aswell as a set of leather armour and 1 silver.
Following the dirt road path out of the village he spawned in Rose observed his surroundings, unfortunately all he could he was wilderness all around. He followed the path until he came across a small open clearing in which the dirt path stopped and followed on into the woods, but standing at the edge of the clearing Rose observed the 8 slimes bouncing across the clearing. Above the green blobs was the text "Slime Lvl 1" with a health bar underneath.
It was inconceivable in nearly all MMO's to die to a slime and considering the mob was only level 1 Rose had no fear, and whilst running up to the slime closest to him Rose pulled out the dagger that was hooked onto the side of his pants, slicing it through the slime's body. The blade passed through the jelly like substance without much resistance and the red bar above the slime dropped by 1/10th with "-10" appearing next to it. 'This is new.' thought Rose. During no point during previous VRMMO's did the game display the damage your dealt that was not in a UI pop-up and neither did they put the monsters name or level above mobs, instead opting to use that opportunity to create the "appraisal skill." Rose also recognised that even though he had damaged the slime the others in the clearing did not aggro to him, this made things much easier for him to grind. Since this was the case, he decided that he would purposely take damage from the slime for two reasons, one as a damage test and one to see the workings of what happens when hit.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
The slime jumped at Rose and he stared as it came at him, it hit him in the chest and he stumbled backwards a few steps. He felt slightly winded but otherwise fine, also noting his health bar having gone down 5. For the next test he waited until the slime jumped at him again before putting his dagger into the slimes path, the slime hit the dagger and nothing happened except a small notification saying [Attack blocked]. 'That was fun' thought Rose. With his tests done Rose attacked the slime, hitting it another 9 times, whilst side-stepping when it jumped until it died. With the death of the slime another small notification, not unlike the previous one popped up. [You have gained 100 Experience and 7 Copper]
For the next 15 minutes Rose spent his time killing the slimes in the clearing until he got another notification, this time it was in the middle of his HUD
You have levelled up!
Due to levelling up you now have access to 5 attribute points and 1 skill point!
Despite levelling up, Rose decided to spend any of his attribute points at this moment in time, it was always one of the hardest things, deciding what to expend points into, because you never know what's going to happen in the future in which you would need the points for. And so for the short-future he wouldn't use them, the skill point on the other hand he was very happy to use. Opening up his skills tab, it was split into 3 sections.
Assassin Spy Thief [Skills] [Skills] [Skills]
With the skills listed below, there no debating which path Rose wanted to go down and so without hesitation he put his first skill point into the [Assassin]'s first skill being the well-reknowned
Stealth
Your character enters a state of stealth. If attack an enemy whilst in stealth you apply a bleed effect to the enemy but are forced out of stealth and the skill goes on cooldown.
Cooldown: 14 seconds Mana: 25 Base Damage: 15x5 Stealth Duration: 60 seconds [0.5 per level]
With the acquirement of his first skill Rose was itching to try it out and so immediately after he thought 'Stealth' and his character went invisible to all but himself. He then walked around for 20 seconds to get used to the feeling of the skill, it was a little weird knowing you were invisible. After the short pacing around he slashed at a slime that bounced along infront of him. He watched the first -10 appear and then a smaller number of -15 appear after that, one per second for 5 seconds, leaving the slime on 15 hp, hitting it twice more the slime burst into particles and the already familiar notification of [You have gained 15 Experience and 8 Cooper]. Staring at the notification Rose thought 'Well that's a bit harsh, I only leveled up once and they only give me 15% of the experience I gained before, although I am happy with the new skill.'
