When I woke up, instead of in a forest or a hill, I awoke in an alleyway. Stone bricks and wood stacked upon each other, rising up two stories, so I'm guessing around 16 to 20 feet tall.
Pushing my hands against the cold cobblestone, I got up. There was a wall behind me, cutting the alley off from others. The walls had some moss growing on them.
This was looking to be a stereotypical fantasy world, with old European architecture, stone grounds, and the castle I can see in the distance. A really huge castle, like it took several hundred decades to build. I could be wrong though, if magic exists. Only one thing is missing, though.
“Status.”
Wind blows through the alleyway, with nothing happening.
“Menu!”
Nothing.
“Main Menu!”
Nothing again.
“Character Screen!”
Still nothing. I was really starting to feel embarrassed. And angry.
“STATUS SCREEN!”
*Ding!*
I breathed out a sigh of relief.
Name: Joshua Daniel Fitzgerald Race: Human Level: 0 HP: 10/10 MP: 15/15 ST: 20/20 Skills: Magical Item Creation, Language Comprehension, Writing Lv 3, Reading Lv 5 Stat Points: 0
Stats:
Strength: 10
Dexterity: 10
Agility: 10
Intelligence: 10

I used to play DnD, and still play RPGe, so I know what most of the stuff means. Strength is physical strength, Dexterity is how well you move, Agility is speed, Intelligence is reaction time, Wisdom is magic, and Luck is luck.
Looking down at myself, I notice I'm wearing something completely different from my normal attire. A linen shirt and shorts, along with greaves on my feet. I guess when Gaia send me here she changed my clothes, huh. Well, I don't need to worry about clothes anymore.
After that finally seeing my own status screen, I walked out of the alleyway, and into the busy street, and listen to the people. But before that I check off another mark on my 'In a fantasy world' list.ecause there's lizards, catgirls, people holding weapons in plain daylight, and catgirls. Did I say catgirls? Because there's catgirls.
"I - you, I - lower - price more - !"
"Come on! It's - !"
"The quest - the Guild - definitely...!"

The words became unintelligible after just a few words, but I know what I'm looking for, as this city definitely has a 'Whatever' Guild, and Isekai taught me that I should join as everything happens there. But first, to the library! Gotta know how the world works.
----------------------------------------
You would think that being here would make finding things easier, but it's still not. I've been listening to people, looking at signs, and trying to read but I can't find the damn library! Maybe I could find a map... or talk to someone. I don't have any money and I don't know how to talk to people. Damnit, I could go for a magic... compass...
*Smack!* (The sound of a facepalm echos through the square.)
God damn it! My one skill! My cheat! How could I forget, my only skill makes magical items! *Sigh* I ducked into a nearby alleyway, and activated my skill.
"Magical Item Creation!"
A blue screen pop up. Alright, that was anticlimactic. I expected golden light or something like that.
Magical Item Menu Basis: Effect: Limitation: Name: Activation Aria:
It's rather small, but effective. For Basis, I put in compass. For Effect it was to show my the direction of what I'm looking for for. The limitation was that it would only show my the direction, not how to get there. For it's name, I called it 'The Compass of Guidance'. When it was done, this was how it looked:
Magical Item Menu: Basis: Compass Effect: Shows what direction is the object/person/place is. Limitation: Shows only the direction, not how to get to there. Name: The Compass of Guidance Activation Aria: Compass of Guidance, show me the way.
Once I filled it out, another blue screen popped up asking if I was done. I selected 'Yes', and golden light surrounded my hand. It was blinding, at first, but then it died down to show an ornate golden compass. The sides were made of a bright gold, as was the needle. They we're both shaped oddly, making them look like vines or branches. I snorted at the thing. Golden compass? What's next, a talking polar bear?
I shook my head, and spoke the activation aria. "Compass of Guidance, show me the way." The needle moved to my left, and I began following it. I passed through a few streets, sometimes taking wrong turns, but I got there.
It was large, with two windows on either side of the door, showing the insides. Above the door was a sign with a book on it. I stepped inside, there were shelves making lanes throughout the store, with some ladders and a few tables in the back. The only problem was that I didn't know what to look for. But I still had my compass.
"Compass of Guidance, show me the way." I whispered.
----------------------------------------
I had just finished reading the last book when the shop closed up. Turns out, he Compass did work, but the books were huge, so I ended up making another item. This time it was glasses that would speed up someone's reading and memorization speed, allowing them to go through a thick book in minutes. This was how it looked:
Magical Item Menu Basis: Glasses Effect: Speeds up the users reading and memorization speed. Limitation: User cannot see far when wearing them. Name: Glasses of Reading Activation Aria: Reading Glasses, show me this book.
That was how I went through twelve brick sized books in just a few hours. It was really dumb, I know, but it helped. If I find no more use, I can just sell it.
I should probably start explaining stuff. The world is called Terra, named after it's main goddess of the same name. There is a Demon King, and he had appeared few years ago after a century of being dead. Yeah, it's gonna take a lot to keep that guy dead.
The whole system thing was created by the gods after the Demon King first appeared. My guesses were correct, it's just there was a tad bit more of that, like luck affects crits and drops, along with being generally lucky. Well, that was really the only thing I missed
And finally the Guild. Made in response to the creation of monsters (who were born from the Demon King), and the system. First they were just protecters, but they grew over time until they were like a government themselves. Those with higher rank ment more money and higher standing. Of course, most people just did it to fight and make money, not worry about politics.
I quickly put the books away and walked out. When I was outside, I realized I had no money, and that meant no food or housing. And that meant another magical item. One that was going to be a portable house and storage!
Magical Item Menu Basis: Backpack
Effect: Storage the size of a mansion, can stretch to put things inside that are larger than itself. Can also store the user.
Limitation: Cannot store another storage device. Name: Pack of Housing Activation Aria: Pack of Housing, Open Up!
The backpack was square, made from brown leather with a golden clasp keeping it shut. Two straps ran down the back to the bottom. I picked it up and slung it over my shoulders. Finding a nice spot in an alleyway close to the Guild, I put down my backpack and activated it.
It felt weird getting eaten by a backpack.
