Mystery Skill

I’m cold. I sat out on the street with nowhere to go. My mother had died three days ago. I was thrown out of the house by my Father. He had told me to die while still being drunk. Ever since my mother died he had been drinking a lot. It’s freezing cold out on the streets but I have nowhere to go. So I just sit in a corner in a dirty backstreet where the wind is less strong. I have already realized that if I stay here I will die here but there are no options left for me. At last I got up, sitting around wouldn’t get my mother back and I wouldn’t live much longer out in the streets. I started to walk without any direction in mind. As I got out on the street I see myself in an undisturbed puddle. I see myself, a young girl a little over three feet tall with a slim body black hair and eyes as black as the night sky with a white dot as the pupil. My most striking feature are undoubtedly my cat ears and tail both as black as my hair. All I have on are the clothes I had on when my father kicked me out of his house.

I have no money no place to live and I was starting to get hungry. My walking has brought me to the adventurers guild. Not just anyone could become an adventurer. I knew that but I have the hope that there are at least some quests that I can do. They might get me enough money so that I wouldn’t die right away. Still indecisive I stood before the guild and after a few minutes the door swayed open revealing an atmosphere like a medieval pub. At last I took a deep breath and walked right in.

It was warm inside a crackling fireplace was on the right side with a lot of ruff looking adventurers sitting at small tables drinking beer and ale. The tables were round and sturdily build with a massive trunk as leg. On the left side there was a wooden board with a near endless amount of quests hanging on the board. In the back of the room there was a long oak bar looking almost shiny, polished by thousands of arms and cups. Behind it stood a grumpy looking male barkeep and a female waitress both expertly handing out drinks to nearby adventurers. Behind them shelves stocked with sturdy tankards and below those where barrels of beer and ale. I stepped forward into the room and instantly all eyes where on me some curios some openly hostile none particularly friendly. I stopped, feeling the intimidation I tried my best not to shit myself and timidly started walking towards the bar. Seeing that I resisted their Intimidation one of the adventurers near the bar stepped forward and increased the level of his intimidation by using the Intimidate skill. I felt the intimidation very keenly and a shiver ran down my spine. Hesitating I stood still for nearly a minute before I overcame the intimidation and made a step towards the bar. Seeing that his intimidation had failed to take effect on me he turned his skill of and let me pass to the counter.

The barkeeper looked me up and down and said: “You’ve got nerves of steel, girl” while chuckling. Seeing that I stepped up to the counter the barkeeper asked me: “What do you want girl?” “I want to be an adventurer,” I answered as confidant as I could. The barkeep nodded and looked at the waitress and said: “Bring her to the Guildmaster!” “Follow me,” said the waitress. She walked of coming out from behind the bar and going towards a small door that was easily overlooked. I followed her through the door into a room dominated by a large oak desk. On top of it piles of paper and a single crystal ball embedded in a wooden bowl. Behind the desk sits a slim elf with shining green eyes. He eyed me suspiciously with a hint of impatience in his eyes. “You want to be an adventurer, I take it?” he asked. I nodded silently. He nodded and then said “We’ll see how long you last.” I said nothing, I already knew that if I didn’t get any money, I would die a beggars death. “Well then he said put your hand on the crystal and we’ll know more. I laid my hand on top of the crystal and my stats, skills and everything else flickered before my inner eye.

Name: Lynn, Age: 13, Race: Cat Beastman; Darkness Cat, Level: 1, Status: hungry, Stats: HP = 40; MP = 60; STR = 10; MAG = 40; AGI = 30, Skills: none, Unique Skills: Battlegod’s Grace, Titles: none,

I focused the Stones power on my unique skill, Battlegod’s Grace: Grants the user access to the Battlegod’s spirit. Its a very vague description to be sure. I then took an interest in my stats, the average starting amount for stats was supposed to be around 15 not 36. My father had mocked me over and over again for being useless. Now look at my stats everything except STR is twice above average Stats.

I took my hand of the crystal ball. The Guildmaster then took a metal card out of a drawer and held it on the crystal engraving my name and age on it as well as my adventurer Rank. Rank F where every adventurer starts. He handed me the card and I took it stuffing it in my small bag. I then bowed and left the office.

I then walked before the quest board and started looking for F ranked quests that I could take without equipment. I decided on a gathering quest for medicinal herbs. the reward is only given per amount needed for one potion which is about 10 leaves. They aren’t rare to find in the forests surrounding the city but those are teaming with monsters so I would have to be careful not to be eaten. I went to the counter asking to take the quest. The Barkeeper registered my Quest. I was happy having found an achievable quest and so I left the guild.
