Caliel finally found him: the Evil One, the Great Serpent, the Tempter, all in one title : the Devil. Besides being the target of his mission on Earth, he had nearly killed his friends. Atop of the cathedral, he watched him get out of a taxi. A wave of fury engulfed him, and he spread his wings with a flick of his shoulder before stepping forward towards the void. About to plunge, Lucifer suddenly locked eyes with him. A hundred meters and dense snow separated them, but the angel knew he had been spotted. The power he sensed in his opponent's gaze froze him, but his sudden doubt was enough for the Devil to lose interest in him and enter the establishment. Caliel needed to eliminate him, but entering the building would inevitably put humans in danger, in addition to confirming the existence of the Creator. Violating two Divine laws would be equivalent to a punishment worse than death: being cast out; and as glorious as his act could be, he couldn't prevent that. It was better to wait for the Devil to leave and distance himself from humans.
After settling as comfortably as possible against a stone column, he went over his days spent searching for his target. He had scoured the sky of Marseille, focusing on peaks of celestial energy. Often, he came across a human unaware of their potential. The rest of the time, he crossed paths with guardian angels whom he made sure to remain invisible from. His Faith was what brought him the solution: as he silently prayed at the top of a cathedral, he sensed a fluctuation of celestial energy and, turning away, discovered his enemy on the other side of the road as he was about to enter a restaurant.
How much time passed before Lucifer emerged? Caliel couldn't say for sure, but judging by the thickness gained by the surrounding layer of snow, it had been several hours. Laughter caught his attention, and lifting his wing, he observed the scene below, where a woman stood with the Devil, stumbling and giggling as they talked. Who was she, and did the Great Tempter intend to take advantage of her? He was surprised to see them exchange a simple kiss and the attention he paid her when a vehicle came to pick her up. Waiting for the taxi to fade into the night, the angel then stretched his wings, which he had used to protect himself from the cold, and then dove into the void, letting the air buoyancy bring him closer to his enemy. Without another sound than the snow crunching under his feet, he landed and waited for Lucifer to turn around. With no movement on his part, Caliel advanced, but at the first step in the white layer, his opponent finally spoke.

"I am not at war with the Heavens, angel," reminded the Evil One. "Why this hostility?
— Oh, I would sin by saying that I do not wish to avenge my comrades, but the reason behind my presence is primarily divine," he replied, struggling to contain his anger. "I have been tasked with defeating Evil, and I intend to carry out my task. Thus, I will be the hero who freed Man from your harmful influence, from your malicious treachery. I will erase the Creator's only mistake. Finally, Good will triumph over Satan."
He finished on a bitter note. The next moment, smoke escaped from the being facing away from him. In a surrounding radius, the snow suddenly disappeared, and the primordial angel suddenly doubted. Had he done the right thing by provoking his enemy? Aggravating his growing concern, a wave of heat hit him, and the aura of anger emanating from Lucifer made him take a step back. He thanked the Almighty for guiding his gesture: a fraction of a second later, and the Devil would have beheaded him. The pain of a golden blood streak on his throat suddenly changed Caliel's concern into horror.
