Chapter 1 - Veuliah

Chapter 1 - Veuliah

"How could he have seen me coming?" wondered the angel as she struggled to slow her fall. She hit the ground with such force that agony wrenched a scream from her. Who was this fallen one who knew their techniques and tactics so well, who had faced such a demon without being touched, while she herself had led the most challenging battle of her existence? The ease with which she had seen Rehaël defeated suddenly gave her an idea, too implausible to be true. To make sure, struggling through the debris that surrounded her, grimacing as she pulled it out of her back, she invoked the revealing spell entrusted to her, projecting it towards the airborne fallen one. Absorbed in the observation of a distant event, he couldn't dodge the parchment, which hit him head-on. Suddenly, his skin transformed into luminous bark, his stature multiplied, and two imposing horns emerged on his forehead. The being turned slowly with an ominous grace, and she knew she had just condemned them, her and her celestial companions.

As if defying the laws of physics, the being vanished and appeared in front of them. He then seized her throat, as well as Rehaël's, and threw them like rag dolls against a nearby wall. While her comrade lost consciousness, Veuliah clung to the last shreds of her consciousness to avoid succumbing. She saw Manakël try to resume the fight, but a knee violently struck his stomach prevented him, making him faint as he was thrown in their direction. The final recourse to overcome their foe: sacrificing their celestial energy in a potent explosion. It would cost her her life, but her divine responsibility was to protect humanity from their adversary, and she had to try everything against him. The spell traced itself in front of her, but a fist suddenly went through the pentacle as if it were made of nothing but a thin layer of ice. She now remained alone facing this being, this harbinger of death, whom she knew she was unable to defeat, and whose pitiless gaze revealed no chance of survival. Dread quickened her pulse, induced tremors, coated her forehead in perspiration; terror gripped her. Raising his weapon, her opponent violently swung his trident against her. Veuliah succumbed.
