Chapter 32 - Trap

Chapter 32 - Trap

The blade sunk into Luna's stomach, sliding all the way in until the handle stopped the blade from going any further. Dark blood splattered out, some flying onto Azumi's face as she moved closer to Luna's body with the movement of her knife.

"U-ugh..." Luna's voice came out weak and soft, her hands gripping onto the handle of Azumi's blade. "A-Azumi..." Luna mouthed, she moved her empty hand to Azumi's back, grabbing on and imprinting a messy blood mark.

"It's your loss, Luna." Azumi whispered, glancing to her side at Luna's head. Azumi's face looked gentle and sympathetic in contrast to the dark look she had during the course of the fight. "Let's go home..." Azumi said softly.

Luna made another quiet groan, her eyes hidden behind her hair. "A-Azumi..." Luna's hand was tightening on Azumi's back, gripping onto the fabric of her shirt. Azumi glanced back at Luna's hand and Luna raised her head, revealing her violet eyes that were now illuminated by an eerie glow. "You're so stupid." Luna smiled, a dark smile.

"W-wha?!—" Azumi spun back to face Luna and noticed her eyes. She tried to move back, but Luna held on tightly. Suddenly, the switchblade that was in Luna's hand shot out from its prior place on the handle of Azumi's blade. The switchblade stabbed through to Azumi's abdomen, tearing flesh and muscle as the blade dug in deeply while Azumi gasped painfully in response, but Luna didn't stop there. She wrenched the switchblade with all her might and tore Azumi's stomach wide open, sending intestines and organs flying into the air as the blade violently ripped out from within Azumi.

More blood than I could ever imagine seeing sprayed out like a fountain into Luna's face and clothes, covering her from her head to her toes. Azumi's screams pierced the air as she stumbled away from Luna, clutching frantically to her ripped stomach as more and more blood poured out. She fell as she tried to move away from Luna, crashing into the ground and rolling pitifully in a pool of her own blood. Her eyes were flashing in and out of synthesis, glowing a vivid hazel color one second and her natural dull hazel the other second, while her face was in a state of pure agony and panic.

"N-n-no... n-no..." Azumi breathed hysterically as she crawled on the ground away from Luna, one hand holding onto her stomach and the other in front of her, pushing her forward.

Luna followed Azumi slowly, ripping Azumi's blade out of her own stomach without so much as wincing. She threw the blade aside, clattering as it hit the ground. "What's wrong, Azumi?" Luna called out playfully. "I thought you said you've won?"

"L-L-Luna... p-please..." Azumi's face was completely pale, half of it was covered in blood. Her hair stuck messily to her cheeks. She turned to me and tears broke from her face. "P-please, R-Ryo! H-help me!" She cried.

"L-Luna..." I mouthed inaudibly, my lips shaking. There was so much blood pouring out of Azumi that my mind froze. The sight of the scene reminded me eerily of the warehouse fight where Luna had killed dozens of people in a similarly gruesome fashion. The images flashed in my mind and my consciousness began to waver. It felt like the air in my lungs was gradually being squeezed out of me. I couldn't speak.

"A-zu-mi," Luna sang, her footsteps echoed as she neared Azumi. The switchblade spun playfully in Luna's left hand. "No one's going to help you here."

Azumi breathed in heavy puffs as she turned to glance back at Luna with a terrified look. Her eyes were still flashing from a glowing vivid hazel to dull every few seconds. "P-p-please Luna..." Azumi pleaded, her face wet with a mixture of tears, sweat and blood. "I-I don't want to die..." She croaked, crying.

Luna looked somewhat maniacal as she smiled, her front teeth showing as she held back a laugh. She raised a hand to her face, trying hard to stifle herself while making weird noises almost as though she was about to burst out laughing. "A-Azumi, please." Luna exhaled, trying to calm herself. "Even Kaori didn't sound as pathetic as you."

Luna was now standing behind Azumi's crawling figure. She sighed and leaned down, grabbing onto Azumi's left ankle to stop her from moving any further. Azumi shrieked and kicked her legs wildly at Luna's touch but to no avail.

"Stop moving," Luna complained, furrowing her eyebrows. "You're only making this longer for yourself."

Luna's switchblade shot out from her hand, slicing the tendons in the back of Azumi's left thigh. Azumi screamed, pushing frantically against Luna but it was useless. Azumi's left leg lost movement after the cut inflicted by Luna. She kicked at Luna with her right leg and the switchblade shot out again, cutting the tendons there. Azumi's right leg fell down limply and she screamed louder as blood gushed out of the wounds.

"P-P-Please, L-Luna!!" Azumi's voice was hoarse from screaming, the loss of blood was causing her eyes to roll up into their sockets. "L-Luna..." Her voice was growing soft and her eyes were no longer flashing into synthesis.

"Oh no," Luna noticed Azumi's eyes rolling up, and she ripped her jumper off, pulling the fabric into pieces. She wrapped the pieces tightly around Azumi's wounds, stopping the blood from flowing. "You can't die yet." Luna said, smiling as the blood soaked the fabric. "I haven't even hurt you yet."

Luna pushed herself on top of Azumi, sitting down at her hips. She pressed down hard on the uncut part of Azumi's stomach with both hands and I heard a hideous cracking noise as the ribs broke from Luna's strength. Blood splurted from the edges of the fabric tied around Azumi's stomach, and Azumi gasped, coughing out dark red blood as her body jerked upwards involuntarily. She breathed deeply in rasps, blood and spit bubbling out of her mouth and her eyes returning from their sockets.

"See, is it better now?" Luna smiled, staring down at Azumi.

The pain came flooding back to Azumi, and she started screaming again, struggling futilely to get Luna off from on top of her but Luna didn't budge.

Luna raised the switchblade in her hand, it was drenched in blood from the tip of the blade all the way up to Luna's hand, and the blood dripped down repulsively into Azumi's face. Azumi shook her head, trying to avoid the blood.

"I'm going to kill you." Luna's voice was soft and chilling, her eyes wide and frightening. Azumi stopped moving at Luna's words, and slowly stared up at her terrified. The expression on Luna's face was spine-chilling. "And it's going to hurt... a lot." Luna finished.

I had seen enough. I needed to do something, and quick. Even though my entire body was screaming at me to leave, I swallowed and mustered what little courage I had left. My mind was beyond traumatised from witnessing all the gruesome torture Luna inflicted on others, but somewhere deep inside, I was somehow getting used to the horror that unfolds with being around Luna. I didn't know if it was even possible, but I found myself walking forward towards Luna.

Luna glanced up at me and the deranged look on her face gradually evaporated. "Ryo?" Luna said confused. "What's wrong—"

I grabbed onto Luna's arm and pulled her up, surprising her. "We're going." I said. "We have to get out of here." I breathed heavily.

Luna looked at me, then glanced down at Azumi. "But I haven't—"

"We're going!" I exclaimed, dragging her with me as we headed to Mayu's unconscious body. "W-we have to go, Luna." I stuttered. The smell of blood coming from Luna was nauseating, she was drenched in it.

"R-Ryo..." Luna said, but she followed me without resistance. Her head was down and she stared at our interlocked hands with a flushed face.

When we got to Mayu, I released my grip of Luna's arm and pulled Mayu onto my back, grimacing as I did so. My left forearm was still badly damaged from Azumi's attack so I had to do the task with my remaining good arm.  She was still out cold but thankfully breathing. I felt Mayu's breath on my neck as I managed to position her on my back, her arms wrapped around my neck. Luna looked jealous, but I grabbed onto her hand and that look disappeared. "Let's go." I said softly.

Luna nodded, sliding her switchblade behind her skirt. "Okay." She said, her face was still red. "I'll go wherever you go, Ryo."

Azumi coughed behind us and I glanced back. She was still lying on the ground, covered in blood. Her body was shaking and she groaned, her voice hoarse but wet sounding. Blood drooled from her mouth and her eyes were closed tightly, wincing. I felt sorry for her but there was nothing I could do.

----------------------------------------

I slammed the apartment door behind us, falling into a slump. Luna walked past me, carrying Mayu's body. It ended up being too hard to carry Mayu with the state of my arm so Luna took up the job instead. Luna disappeared into the bathroom, dropping Mayu into the showers and I heard the water turning on.

"What happened to Yumi anyway?" I called out to Luna. "Is she safe?"

"She's fine." Luna called back from the showers. "She fainted after a ghost jumped out from the walls, so we ended up taking her to the first aid centre at the amusement park."

I breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, Luna was more responsible than I thought. I glanced at the bathroom door and realised that Luna left the door open.

"H-hey, Luna what are you doing?" I asked, feeling my face grow hot.

"Showering." Luna's voice was slightly muffled by the sound of the showers. "I have to get the blood off Mayu and me."

"Y-you could had closed the door." I mumbled.

"You can come shower too." Luna replied. "There's enough room for you."

I palmed my face, feeling my cheeks grow even hotter. Calm down Ryo. Control yourself. I ignored Luna's statement, falling silent as I waited for them to finish.

The showers eventually turned off and Luna stepped out from the bathroom. She was naked from her head down to her toes.
