Season 1: chapter 36

Pag ran a hand down his face, the rough scales oddly comforting against his palm. The revelations within the temple, the weight of the Heart of the Abyss nestled securely in his bag, the daunting prospect of facing a potential intergalactic threat – it was all a bit much to process. He looked around, the temple serene despite the swirling vortex of thoughts and emotions churning within him. Ancient pines towered overhead, their needle-carpeted floor muffling his restless pacing. He looked to Dedisco, hoping for some sort of guidance, some direction. "So, where exactly are we?" he asked, his voice echoing slightly in the stillness of the temple. "And how do I get back to Kyrbane, or at least to your Reliquary?"

Dedisco, perched upon his obsidian throne, regarded Pag with a mixture of amusement and irritation. "Impatient, are we, little mage?" he drawled, his voice a deep, resonant rumble that seemed to vibrate through the very air. "We are on a continent that was not meant to be accessible yet. It was locked away, hidden until the Heart of the Abyss was whole, its two halves reunited."

"But the system issues," Pag countered, gesturing vaguely at the surrounding forest, "the instability… It somehow… glitched me here?"

"Precisely," Dedisco confirmed, a hint of pride in his voice. "The barriers weakened, the pathways shifted, and you, little mage, stumbled through the cracks in reality."

"And to think, I was starting to feel like I was getting the hang of this game," Pag muttered, shaking his head in disbelief. "So, how do I get back?"

"You will need to sail," Dedisco stated simply, as if suggesting a casual stroll through a park. "Across the ocean. It is a long and perilous journey, even in the best of times. But with the current state of the world… the tides are treacherous, the winds unpredictable, and Zedite, the God of the Oceans, is not fond of those who meddle in his domain."

"There's a port, isn't there?" Pag asked, his thoughts already turning towards the logistics of this unexpected voyage. He remembered the bustling docks of Kyrbane, the variety of ships, the seasoned captains who braved the unpredictable seas. Surely, there had to be something similar on this… hidden continent.

"Indeed," Dedisco confirmed, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. "A small port, nestled along the eastern coast. You will find ships there, captains willing to brave the open ocean… for a price, of course."

"And the people? The… species? Are they like the ones I’ve seen in Draggor, Soohan…?" Pag asked, recalling the diverse array of creatures he had encountered in his travels: Fennicians with their fox-like features, the reptilian Quang warriors of the Lunar Empire, the fierce, Altacians. He had learned to navigate the complexities of interspecies communication, the subtle nuances of body language, the importance of respecting cultural differences.

Dedisco leaned back on his obsidian throne, a glint of mischief in his glowing eyes. "Ah, little mage," he purred, his voice laced with a hint of anticipation. "That is where the true adventure begins. This continent, this… sanctuary… it is home to creatures unlike any you have encountered before. Be wary, mage. Not all who dwell in the shadows are welcoming."

Pag, trying to absorb the information being given to him, pictured a map in his mind. He'd have to find this port on the eastern coast and secure passage across a vast, monster-filled ocean, all while carrying an artifact coveted by gods. Easy, right? He sighed, shaking his head to dispel the image of the map. It was a lot to take in, but there was no time to waste. "Alright, a port on the eastern coast," he repeated, focusing on the task at hand. "And these… new creatures. Any advice on navigating this… uncharted territory?"

Dedisco chuckled, the sound echoing through the temple, a mix of amusement and something that sounded suspiciously like anticipation. He rose from his obsidian throne, his shadowy form shifting and swirling as he paced before the altar. "Advice, little mage?" he mused, his voice laced with a sardonic humor. "I am allegedly a God of Chaos, remember? Where is the fun in predictability, in well-trodden paths?"

Pag scowled. He wasn't sure if Dedisco was genuinely unhelpful or just enjoyed watching him squirm. Likely both.

"However," Dedisco continued, sensing Pag's growing frustration, "I will offer this: trust your instincts, mage. You possess a keen mind, a sharp wit, and a surprising ability to adapt to even the most… unexpected situations." He paused, his gaze fixed on Pag, a hint of something akin to respect flickering in his glowing eyes. "You have faced trials that would break lesser beings. You have walked the path of darkness and emerged with your soul intact. Trust yourself, mage. And be wary of those who offer easy answers."

He gestured towards the eastern wall of the temple, where a shimmering portal had materialized, its edges swirling with a kaleidoscope of colors. "The path to the port lies before you. Go, and may the winds be ever in your favor."

Pag nodded, though his expression remained wary. He wasn't entirely convinced that Dedisco's "advice" was particularly helpful, but he had learned to read between the lines, to discern the grains of truth hidden within the god's cryptic pronouncements. He took a step towards the shimmering portal, the anticipation tinged with a healthy dose of trepidation.

Before stepping through the portal, Pag turned back to Dedisco. "And these creatures?" he asked, his voice echoing slightly in the stillness of the temple. "What can you tell me about them? Anything to prepare me for what I might encounter?"

Dedisco, his shadowy form now looming over the obsidian throne once more, regarded Pag with an enigmatic smile. "Ah, the inhabitants of this hidden realm," he mused, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. "They are a diverse lot, mage, shaped by the unique energies of this continent, by the whispers of forgotten gods, by the very essence of the wild magic that permeates this world."

He paused, his gaze flickering towards the portal, as if momentarily lost in thought. "You will encounter creatures of both beauty and terror, of light and shadow," he continued, his voice dropping to a low, conspiratorial whisper. "Creatures that walk upright, creatures that slither and soar, creatures that dwell in the depths of the forest and creatures that stalk the night. Each with their own customs, their own beliefs, their own ways of interacting with the world around them."

"Some will welcome you with open arms," Dedisco added, a sly glint in his glowing eyes. "Others will test your strength, your cunning, your very essence. Be wary, mage. For in this realm, appearances can be deceiving, and trust is a luxury few can afford."

With a final flourish, Dedisco raised his hand, and the shimmering portal pulsed with a sudden burst of energy, beckoning Pag forward. "Go now, little mage," he commanded, his voice echoing through the temple. "Your journey awaits. Discover the secrets of this hidden continent. Embrace the chaos. And remember… every choice you make has consequences."

Pag hesitated for a moment, his gaze lingering on Dedisco's enigmatic form. He took a deep breath, steeling himself against the unknown, and stepped through the portal.

A rush of disorientation washed over him as he transitioned between realms. He blinked, his vision adjusting to the sudden shift in light and scenery. The serene, pine-scented air of the temple was replaced by a humid, earthy aroma, heavy with the scent of unknown flora and the faint tang of salt air. The familiar sounds of the forest – the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds – were replaced by a symphony of unfamiliar noises: the raucous calls of unseen creatures, the rustling of undergrowth, the distant roar of waves crashing against a rocky shore.

He found himself standing on a narrow, winding path that snaked through a dense, verdant forest unlike any he had encountered before. Towering trees with smooth, iridescent bark reached towards the sky, their branches laden with exotic flowers that glowed with a soft, ethereal light. Strange, vine-like plants with pulsating, bioluminescent pods clung to the trunks of the trees, casting flickering shadows that danced across the forest floor.

Pag took a tentative step forward, his senses on high alert. This was a place of both wonder and danger, a realm teeming with life, but also with unknown threats. He had stepped into the unknown, into a world where the rules were different, where the familiar was replaced with the strange and the unexpected.

He could feel Dedisco's influence lingering in the air, a subtle reminder of the god's presence, of the quest that lay before him. He had to find the port, secure passage across the ocean, return to Kyrbane. But a part of him, a part that had been awakened during his trials in the submerged city, in the Patala tunnels, in the very heart of Dedisco's Reliquary, yearned to explore this hidden continent, to discover its secrets, to embrace the chaos that awaited him.

The path before him beckoned, leading deeper into the heart of the forest, towards the unknown.
