Lucky Me!
Chapter 9: Skill Tree

Chapter 9: Skill Tree

In surprise, I turned my head around to see the person behind me. It was the pretty girl who had carried me all the way here. She looked different than earlier. She didn’t have her weapon and armors on like she had earlier. Her long hazel-nut colored hair was let loose unlike earlier when she had her ponytail on, and she also had light pajama looking clothes on. Of course, the pajama did not look like the ones we have in United States rather it looked similar? Seemed like a summoned one from our world tried to replicate the pajamas.

I was drowned in my own thoughts again until I saw Sera’s face front of me.

“So? What’s it going to be?” (Sera)

Oh crap, Seems like she is still waiting for my reply. I didn’t know what kind of answer I wasn’t sure of what type of answer I was supposed to give to her, so I acted as if I didn’t hear her for the first time.

“Uh... Sorry, could you repeat that? I don’t think I heard it right.”

“You can come sleep in my tent. There is enough room for one more since the tent can fit up to two people.” (Sera)

“Well, Aren’t you lucky Skylar! There is a beautiful girl that is inviting you to sleep next to her.” (Aaron)

It’s not the time to joke around old man.

“Uh… Are you sure about this? I really don’t mind sleeping outside. Plus, I don’t think I will feel too comfortable.”

 “I don’t mind.” (Sera)

“Well, you guys figure it out on your own. I’m going to sleep. I’m tired.” (Aaron)

Aaron!!! You are going to leave me like this? And so… about 2 minutes have passed since Aaron went back inside to the tent that Jude went to sleep in. I still haven’t gave Sera an answer. I’m not hesitating because I’m shy. I’m hesitating because it’s kind of weird to sleep next to a stranger… especially a girl. Isn’t that rather strange? A girl letting a stranger that she just met sleep next to her. Not only that I have a feeling it’s going to be super awkward, but I can’t her hanging like this…

“Um, I’m sorry. I’m going to have to decline.”

“Alright. No problem.” (Sera)

After replying with simple answer, Sera went back into her tent. Well, that was very anti-climactic. Anyways, It’s okay for me to sleep outside on these logs for today because I wanted to check out my own abilities and debate which abilities to raise.

It’s one of those dilemmas you face when you have created your new character and have obtained a job in role playing games. If you are a player like me that really doesn’t want to mess up, you would go on internet and look for guides. I probably spend more time looking for guides, and reading them then actually playing the game. But, I’m in a different situation. Even though the world that I am currently residing in works like the games, once I mess up there are no restarts like games. Problems rises from the fact that I don’t know how hard it is to gain the “level” that these people have. If it’s hard to gain a level, that means each skill points that I am carrying with me will be precious.

First, I’m going to check out what type of skills there are, then I’m going to see what kind of skills I want to put up.

As I muttered that word, the skill system popped up in front of me. Man, this is awesome. Now, there were three main skills that branches of too many other skills. Combat, ranged and magic. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to actually do. I can either be master of one skill or be jack of all trades. But being jack of all trades means master of none. Of course, once you reach high level you can probably put more points into the skills but that’s long way from now. So I decided to not invest my points into many different things rather only few.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

Hmm, maybe I should put up combat skills? Investing into combat skills means I can use sword, axe, spears, and other close ranged weapons to kill monsters and again worst comes to worst, a person. I don’t think I have the balls to fight these monsters again close combat so let’s not put any points into close combat for now.

What about ranged? I can use bows, and crossbows, or maybe… I can even use my guns with the abilities. If I put my points into ranged skill will it increase my accuracy with my gun? It should count as ranged right? but, I don’t have any many bullets left. So if I were to invest my points for the gun it would be a bad idea unless I’m able to get some ammo. I highly doubt these people will have ammo for it because the bandits I shot earlier didn’t know about it. Maybe, I can create my own ammo? If I can create fire, water, and wind with magic that means I can create earth as well. Meaning, I can make bullets out of rocks. But that won’t make sense either because I can’t shoot out rocks with my gun. Hmm… Maybe, I can make the gun shoot out with energy. Like a rail gun?

I clicked on magic to see what types of magic were there and these were the choices I saw < Fire >, , , , , , .

Yeah, It’s definitely not possible anymore. If I was able to require skills that had electricity, I could’ve made a railgun but it doesn’t exist. Not sure how efficient shooting a bullet with wind or energy from the fire would be. In the end, I had two options left. To either choose magic or ranged or to acquire both.

I liked the idea of being able to use magic but at the same time I also wanted to use ranged weapon like bow or cross bow. Just the thought of carrying ranged weapon on my back actually made me feel excited. I can imagine myself going on a journey like that. Anyways, I have decided to put skills into both of the skills. First, I put my hand over the and it brought up more specific options. Bow, Crossbow, and Throwing. I wondered what the throwing skill was and apparently you can throw knives, stones, and any kind of things that are able to be thrown. Seemed very gimmicky so I decided to not raise that skill.

Now I had to choose between skill mastery between bow and crossbow. For my personal preference I liked the idea of bow better because crossbow seemed bulky to me. Thinking about carrying one turned me off from the idea of raising its skill. I know I’m contradicting myself from before but I think it’s cool when other people carry that weapon but not personally.

After deciding what kind of skill I wanted from ranged tree, I decided to raise its skill to max. Here is what I thought.

Having many skills will make me jack of all trade, and a master of none, but! I can probably cover that up with raising only few skills to its max level. Meaning that, even if I have three to four skills, If I have them maxed out it means I will be able to use those specific skills to its fullest and not worry about being a master of none. I’ll just be master of the few.

I clicked onto the skill and raised it. At level 1 it took 1 skill point away from what I had. My total skill points went from 288 to 287. The max level of this skill is level 15. How many skill point is that? I took out my iPhone and punched the numbers in it. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 … It came out to be 120 skill points. 120 skill points! That’s outrageous.

That means I have to be level 120 to be actually be able to master a skill. I’m very lucky to have these unique skills with me or I would have never been able to obtain this amount of skill points I have right now. Matter of fact, I wouldn’t be level 72 either. Anyways, I still went through with my decision and raised my skill to max level. Luckily, I still had plenty of points left.

Now what to do with these points I have left. I had 168 skill points left. These amount of points were enough to either raise multiple skills to at least level 5 or to master another skill and have 48 skill points left over. I mean I thought about it already haven’t I? It’s to master at least 3 to 4 skills. Though, I will only be able to have 2 skills mastered. I opened up the skill tab and opened it. Like before there were 7 types of magic. Now, which element to choose…
