Volume 1 Chapter 2: The Normal Princess & The Genius Prince

It seems I have been reincarnated in an unfamiliar land. What’s more, I don’t understand the language and I’m pretty much stuck inside a room all day.

I would regularly see the woman from my birth, who is actually my mother and queen of the kingdom. That must mean me and Luciana are prince and princess respectively. I found out that we are royalty from the responses of the ladies in uniform, who are servants here to take care of us in the absence of the queen.

As for the man who carried both me and Luciana, I barely got to see him but I guess a king must be busy though it would be nice for him to stop by even if only for a while.

Most days are the same. It mainly consists of looking around for anything interesting happening which isn’t a lot inside a bedroom. At certain times of the day, mother would come in to breastfeed us. I don't feel anything weird about it now but when it first happened, I ended up sucking way too hard on her nipple causing her to recoil back. It seemed it was the first time she has done it and is just not used to it but the look she gave me after the fact had a hint of discomfort making me uncomfortable as well. I'm sorry!

Still, our mother is quite beautiful, just what you'd expect from royalty, I guess. She possess medium-length, purple hair that she sometimes would tie into a ponytail. Her face has a soft demeanor at all times; a word I would use to describe it is elegant. Her skin is fair, though I noticed her right hand is quite rugged whenever she would carry me.

I noticed this for a while now but whenever I would get a close look at her face, she seems quite young. Way younger than I was in my previous life. If I had to guess, she's only in her late teens and to think that she gave birth to twins. I'll be sure to be a good son.

As for my father the king, he seemed to be in his mid-thirties, just like my older brother in my previous life. I guess it was one of those arranged marriage things. Can't say I like that since it reminded me of Reina's predicament.

Unlike my mother who dons a soft expression at all times, my father usually have a fierce look on his face. With his crimson red hair and old age, he seems like the typical bad guy in a fantasy novel but that can't be, right? I mean, whenever I do see him, he does seem like a good father towards me and Luciana.

With our parents' genetics into consideration, me and Luciana are bound to be good-looking so that's something to look forward to.

Four months have passed since being born in this place and I've managed to pick up a decent amount of words to the point that I could probably hold a conversation. In fact, I’ve spoken my first word not too long ago, to everybody’s shock which was understandable. Usually, an infant starts to speak at a year-old but being able to do it in less than the norm would attract the attention of all.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

This is when I learned that I have a step-mother. Two step-mothers actually. It seems that my father practices polygamy, which I am unsupportive of. At this point, I just have to wonder, in what backwater country was I reincarnated to.

My step-mothers would visit us, separately, in our room every now and then when mother isn’t with us. They don’t really do much but stare at us while murmuring something to themselves. On top of learning the language of this country, I should really also learn how to read their language. Maybe I can ask mother or even the maids to read a book for me.

While my development as an infant is going greater that I could imagine, I can’t help but notice Luciana and how normal she is. Obviously she’s only an infant so her still being in the loop of drinking milk, crying and sleeping everyday is understandable. I had assumed that she was a reincarnated person like me but apparently not. Hopefully, despite the apparent gap between us, we’d still get the same opportunities.

Six months have passed since then. At this point, I’m able to speak to people though I still struggle with some of the words. I’m able to crawl just fine and even walk although I do need to hold onto things to help me move. I guess my bones aren’t that firm yet.

On the other hand, Luciana has now started to speak single words, mimicking what our mother or father would say to her. She had also started to crawl which became a headache for our caretakers though I would often watch over her. This girl really reminded me of Rin when she was a newborn. Despite Luciana technically being my older sister, I just can’t help wanting to take care of her.

She cries often when she doesn’t get doted on by mother. At the start, the maids would comfort her, to no avail, so I usually dote on her since we’re sharing the same crib.

Due to my apparent intellectual prowess, father deemed me a genius who will inevitably succeed him in leading the kingdom. I have my reservations about that. I don’t plan on being here for too long after all. The plan is still on. Learn about this place and find a way to go back home.

Father saying what he said led to my step-mothers visiting more often, sometimes even when mother is present. Their beautiful faces were such a waste, with them consistently bearing a scowl on their faces.

They’d still do the same antics as before. Go into the room and just stare at us though this time it’s different since I can now understand most of what they’re saying.

It seems they do not like our very existence, especially mine, as it threatens their own children’s prospects of inheriting the throne. I couldn’t care less about it so I could only hope they don’t have us assassinated or something.

That aside, we're taken care of quite well by everybody. I've noticed for a while now but this place doesn't seem to have electricity. We didn't have air-conditioning in our room but despite that, it never really got too hot. During baths, we were wiped by a clean cloth with warm water. It was a bit different from my experience taking care of an infant Rin.

It was only about a year later when me and Luciana started being brought out of our room, that I found the truth about this place...
