Through the glass

Through the glass

Ishida began to question the weird option on his interface but he decided that getting to school on time was more important.

He rushed out of the house as If he waited any longer he would be late. Which his grade couldn’t afford at the moment.

Ishida arrived at school in just enough time so that he wasn’t late, he took his seat and stretched a bit.

Sigh

Ishida looked over his shoulder to see the source of the noise, when he had found it his eyes widened with joy.

Kaito Sakamoto was Ishida’s best friend. One issue, Kaito hardly ever showed up to school, so interactions between the two of them was minimal.

“Hey Kaito, you done acting like a high school drop out?”

“Not one bit.”

“You know you wont make it anywhere in life if you never show up, don’t you?”

“That was a little harsh wouldn’t you say?”

“Not one bit.”

“Oh so you’ve got jokes, Mr,Survivor, sir.”

“Oh cut it out, drop out.”

The two of them continued arguing like that until the teacher came and settled the class down. Class 7-D was an elite class, comprised of students that scored high on any of the magical tests given at birth.

All except Ishida of course. Although, after his recent maze journey, he was more than qualified for the class.

“Hey so uh, Kaito.”

“What, Mr.Survivor, sir?”

“Cut it out, but on your interface, do you see anything that would happen to say observe?”

“What?”

“Nothing. Never mind, it was a silly question. Forget I asked.”

“I will.”

The teacher went on to explain the course plan for the day, it wasn’t anything that piqued Ishida’s interest at all. Except for one part.

The teacher explained that one month from now the class would be split into six groups of two, and everyone would be isolated on the Fukaji Island where they would engage in trials. The goal was to capture the other teams flags and document it using a specially made system interface at your flag post. Afterwards the flag would instantaneously be transported back to its original post, and the trials would conclude after 2 months on the island.

Both Ishida and Kaito looked forward to that, the teacher specified that everyone would be able to pick their teammates so Kaito and Ishida planned on picking one another.

The end of the day neared and everyone readied themselves to pack their things and head home. Kaito had already left the school without permission which left Ishida all alone.

Despite his young age, Ishida lived alone. He never really knew his parents, they weren't dead, they just went away someday without ever announcing it to Ishida leaving him all by himself.

As Ishida sat down, he pulled up his interface and stared intensely at the extra option.

Observe?

Ishida decided to click on the observe option, which revealed that there was more than just that.

Upon clicking it, the interface switched back to that red color that it had been in the maze a few days ago. A new menu he had never seen before appeared as well that gave a few more options other than just ‘observe’.

Ishida was very hesitant to tap on any of the options the system was giving him. But he reluctantly pressed Observe.

The interface shifted to a purple color and had a list of names. Ishida recognized the names as his classmates, and some other people he’s interacted with.

He saw the name ‘Kaito Sakamoto’ on the list and decided to press on it. The interface summoned a secondary monitor that showed a third person view of Kaito as well as some other details about his health state.

Ishida quickly dismissed the screen since it felt wrong to spy on someone like that. But he couldn’t deny his curiosity.

He settled down, hoping to get some rest. Although his attempts were quite futile. As he was kept awake by an incessant buzzing from his alternate terminal.

He got no rest throughout the entire night but he still chose to wake up anyways. When he was in the maze he destroyed his glaive in an attempt to let people know he was stuck but he now needed another glaive.

Since the glaive was his first weapon, that’s what his main weapon was locked to. Without investing enough points into intelligence he can’t change off of glaives, any other weapon physically can’t be used by him.

On his way to school, he passed by the gate again. He peered at it and as he stepped closer he could feel his heart beginning to beat faster but he pressed on.

If he wanted to get any stronger, then he’d have to go back inside.

He urged himself to push past the gates but he quickly remembered he needed a new weapon so he chose to back away for a bit and just head to school.

As he turned away his eyes reflected the color of his terminal, turning a sanguine red and his legs locked in place, not allowing him to move so much as an inch.

And again he was yanked back inside the maze.
