ACT III - "The Call"

ACT III - "The Call"

Home, sweet home…

......

So, it finally happened.

My dreams - crushed.

Boris – “Now what?”

Boris – “What I’m going to do?”

The money I saved will probably last me another six months. I still need to find a job though.

Boris – “That’s not the problem!”

Who thought this is a good idea?! Why are you doing this to me?! Do you hate me that much?!

If only you could buy an ancom second hand… Heh, these days you can’t. They are encrypted to a single person.

There are other androids and older models you can find on the market.

Boris – “Wait! Yes! That’s it!”

Actually no, forget it. They are junk compared to what’s available now. And they look horrible, have so many problems… just… no.

Boris – “ARGGH! I’m going insane!”

What I’m going to do now? Sitting on my computer all day? I’ve got to do something!

Boris – “Lets search for a job!”

I turn my computer on and start browsing websites offering jobs…

…but nothing catches my attention.

Boris – “Well, tomorrow is a day too. Today, we play Twilight Online!”

While I wait for the game to load, I hear the sound of coins ringing from one of my pockets. As I reach for my pockets, I grab a piece of paper - the leaflet I received earlier today.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Hmm…You register at one of their offices and they offer you a match. At least that’s what I’m getting from all of this. It seems everything happens in person. Really unusual these days, especially with todays apps and stuff.

Should I try it?

….

Nope!

Someone as anti-social as me has no chance in this program.

I crush the leaflet with all my strength and throw it in the bin.

Whew, let’s play some Twilight Online!

…..

…..

…..

It’s 1 am already? I need some sleep.

I get up and head for the bed.

-The Next Day-

*alarm rings*

Stop….

*alarm rings*

I slam my hand on my phone, grab it and turn the alarm off.

Boris – “What time is it? 8 am? Great.”

I get up slowly and head for the bathroom.

After getting a shower, brushing my teeth and getting dressed, I go to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Except, my fridge is empty. Fantastic. I need to go to the store.

I grab my phone and my wallet and head outside.

-Outside-

Today’s weather is perfect. Good, I can’t stand the heat.

As I walk towards the store, my phone starts to ring.

Huh, who is calling me at this time? Wait, mom, it’s you, isn’t it?

I grab my phone and I see “Mom” displayed on the screen. I’m shocked.

Boris – “Yes?”

Mom – “Boris? How are you, my darling?”

Boris – “I’m fine, mom. How are you?”

Mom – “Good. I’m cleaning the house.”

Mom – “Boris?”

Boris – “Yeah?”

Mom – “Have you found a job? If you need money, just tell me.”

Uuhm…What should I tell her? Before I left, I told her that I can take care of myself, but look at me now… I can’t disappoint her.

Boris – “No need, mom. I have a job that I’m pretty happy with. I make enough money too.”

Mom – “…Good. What about a girlfriend?” she laughs.

Boris – “I’m going out with this girl… So far it’s good, but we will see.”

I should stop.

Mom – “Oh! That’s nice! Good for you!”

Mom – “Well, you better be free next Friday, because I’m coming over to visit you, also be sure to bring your girlfriend with you, I would love to meet her! Bye!” she laughs and hangs up the phone.

Boris – “Mom! Hey! Mom!”

…..

And this is why you shouldn’t lie to your mother.

Damn, I’m an idiot! I need a plan! Any kind of plan!

Maybe I should pay some guys to be my co-workers and a girl to be my girlfriend. Hehehehe….

I’m done. My life is over.

I start running towards the store, rush through the door, grab some eggs, milk and other stuff as fast as I could, pay and head back home with lightning speed.

I turn my attention towards my computer, grab my recycle bin and search for my golden ticket.

Boris – “Here it is!”

I pull the crushed piece of paper away and I put in my pocket.

Boris – “Alright. Let’s do this.”
