Chapter 9.2

“ So this is where she decided to hide,” Evara said. She looked around and found nothing but an empty forest illuminated by the moon.

“It keeps any unwanted attention plus you know how she is,” Alizon said,

“Now if you don’t mind.”

“Not at all. Go right ahead,” Evara said, sensing the magic that was distributed throughout the forest.

Alizon nodded as she reached toward the sword hanging around her waist and planted it into the ground.

“A magic barrier and a strong one for sure,” Nana said, as she watched the young witch begin her incantation. A magic circle began to appear on the ground the sword was in and the atmosphere around them began to twist and distort itself like a piece of paper, taking away the darkness of the forest and replacing it with a garden filled with flowers of different shades accompany by the brightness of the sky above.

“That’s quite the contrast,” Evara said, as she spotted a single white table in the middle with a single figure in a dark dress and a hat sitting by it.

The three witches walked toward the figure, the sunny light of the bright sky shining above them.

“Is good to see you, master,” the figure sitting at the table said, as she took a sip from a white cup in her hand.

“I was certain you had retired, Lileth,” Evara said, as she took a seat opposite of her.

“Is like you haven’t aged a day,” Lileth said, looking at Evara, and smiling.

Evara looked at Lileth.

Her eyes were covered by a cloth wrapped around her face. She wore a black dress, and she looked as if she was going to a funeral. Then again, Lileth always enjoyed a certain dress code that other witches deemed too melancholic for themselves, which Evara found amusing considering she was quite fond of things opposite of how she dressed.

“What can I say, it must be the fresh air,” Evara said, jokingly.

“The air in this part of the world is certainly very unique,” Lileth said, smirking at her.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

“So, what made you come out of retirement, my young student?

“Before we begin, I brought you a present, “ Lileth said, waving her hand and making a bowl full of cookies appear before them.

“Thought I must admit they're not as good as Nana makes them.”

“Just takes a lot of practice,” Nana said, smiling at her old friend and fellow classmate once.

“I don’t assume you came all the way here to see your master and bring her such a delicious gift,” Evara said, as she ate a piece of the cookies that were in front of her.

“ A bit bland but passable.”

“I could never get the right amount of sugar, you will have to teach me some time Nana,” Lileth said, as she took a sip of her cup and placed it on the table.

“ I don’t mind catching up with my dear master, but unfortunately this is not one of those times I’m afraid.”

“Does it have to do with the necklace?” Nana said, eager to get to the bottom of it as soon as possible. What had brought the captain of the artifact division out of retirement?

“Your assumption is correct, and I’m sure as my protégé has filled you in, the Serpentis Covenant has made their move, and that individual is no longer imprisoned.”

“ I see,” Evara said, putting the last piece of cookie in the bowl.

“So it is true,” Nana said,

“ I had heard rumors but I did not think of them to be true.”

“I’m afraid so,” Alizon said, she could see in their faces what every witch in Salem had written about in those pages of the Witches' crimes, the only witch to ever bring Salem to its knees.

“We got intel that the Serpentis witches were able to locate the prison and free….”

“How many ?” Evara interrupted, her fist clenching underneath her robe.

Alizon noticed for the first time since she met Evara, the fierce expression that sent chills down her enemies, one of the six master witches of Salem.

“The whole guard squad was wiped out,”

“By the Serpentis Covenant?” Nana asked,

“No, not by them, the Serpentis Covenant was never a threat to us, they were nothing more than a rogue covenant, but by that individual.”

“Were you able to capture any?” Evara asked,

“We did but the interrogation was futile for they didn’t produce much information except for this,” Lileth said, as she waved her hand, causing an image of a blue color gem to appear in front of them.

“Rey’s necklace,” Nana said, fearing the worst.

“So, what do you want to do?” Evara asked, sitting back in her chair, and looking at the bright blue sky.

“Take the necklace back to Salem and place it in the tower of the abyss.”

"If only it was that simple,” Lileth said,

“I’m afraid that even if we wanted to we cannot. “

The necklace is tied to this world,” Alizon said, touching her lips.

“A grounding spell? ”Evara said, fearing that things were about to change, a change she did not anticipate.

“A very strong one, which I was unable to break when I kissed Rey.”

“Now who would ground the necklace to this world,” Lileth said,

“I wondered indeed, though I’m afraid we already know the answer to that question, and now the question is, why do they want that necklace? “

“The only way we would know is if we get our hands on the oracle witch the Serpentis Covenant has in their hands.”

“And in the meantime, we just wait for them to strike,” Nana said, her mind filled with Rey, and what it meant for him to keep the necklace, perhaps it would have been better off in Salem all those years ago.

“Not much we can do but wait and see,” Lileth said, as she stood up.

“Luckily we have time.”

“But how long before the chains are broken that keep them in our world and away from here,” Evara said, looking at Lileth,

“I guess that depends on how strong our sister’s spell was when she cast it upon that individual those years ago.”
