Chapter 9. Day Time Hunting

“BAAAAAaaa” Something roared off from the area leading to the pond. Looking that way, I saw what looked like a kid goat with its head covered in spikes with a furless body, and the skin was purple with red streaks. Headling Lv 7 Tier 1.

Seeing that it was charging straight toward me, I shot at it using my Inferior Light Bolt, sending four at its head, mainly aiming for its eyes. Halfway through its charge, its head burst apart like it wasn't there. Instantly killing it on the spot, not a stronger monster at all. Or maybe my Int made my spells stronger the higher it was. That would make sense, seeing how It would boost not only my mp but also the bite of my spells; that was good to consider. Maybe it also increased resistance to magic the higher it was.

Growls, my stomach wanted to eat something. So who am I to waste a meal that just appeared before me? Going towards it, I heard another one of the Headlings baas at me from off in the trees. Not even a second there; it was coming my way. Well, it wouldn't matter much anymore since it would die soon. Heading Lv 4 Tier 1.

It was weaker than the other one, so there was not much to see from it. I sat down and ripped off a leg as the one still alive ran at me as fast as possible, trying to impale me with the spikes it had on its head. If I didn't have spells that I could fire at it with, I might have been in danger of it hurting me or, if I was unlucky, even dying. Still eating the leg in my clawed hands, I released two Void Bolts this time and watched with interest as they impacted the left side of its head. This time only half of the head was gone. As it collapsed onto the ground skidding only a few feet.

Not very tough are these monsters at all to magic. But I need to train my magical skills to get them to a higher rank to do more stuff with it. I still needed to learn more about what I could do; I will have even more to know when I evolve.

I used the blood of the monsters I had just killed and eaten to lure out even more, to hunt instead of trying to run around or wait for them. Picking up the last one I killed, I dragged it everywhere to spread the scent of a monster bleeding out and too weak to move. This is messed up looking, pulling a corpse like a toy through the forest to bring prey. Now back to the open, covering me in its blood to smell injured.

Ten minutes later, something was coming in search of an easy meal. Traceling Lv 6 Tier 1. A 1ft (0.3 m) tall stick-thin creature that's body was black, and the eyes were pink. It looked like an insect, having a hunched posture with arms that resembled a dagger. The legs looked built for speed, able to bend more to propel Themselves. Ambush, maybe but perhaps not seeing it walk without hiding. High Agi and Str? This may be a challenge to me.

I watched as the thing came forward, moving for any sign of weakness. But it was hard to tell from the way it looked and walked. Still, not rushing me showed it had a higher level of intelligence than other monsters that would charge at a moment's notice. Smart, fast, and likely strong too, I was happy to have something to fight with that would push me further than the weaklings I have been killing this whole time. I grinned as my sharp teeth showed. “Will you be the one to end my boredom,” I yelled to it.

It nodded, understanding what I was saying to it and seeming just as excited as I was. I had around regenerated almost all of my mp. We were leaving me with 122 mp left to use on the Traceling in front of me. Dropping into a low stance, I readied myself, and it did the same. We both let out roars and charged at each other.

4 Light Bolts and 4 Void Bolts were fired at the monster in front of me. It used the dagger-like ends of its arms to slash at my magic with a glow on edge being pink. It has a magic slash too. Not able to cut all of them, it sidestepped out of the way and was only hit by one void bolt. I have 53 shots left in reserve, but that seemed wrong to waste this fight to do that.

I still needed to increase the void slash while I was at it. We were 2ft (0.61 m) apart. Now it has the reach advantage over me with its arms. Time to push me today. 1ft (0.3 m) away from me, and we stopped to fight. Guess Novice Monster Fighting is going to get some more levels too.

It was way faster than anything I had faced yet here in the Void. This made me glad that not everything was slow and dumb. It used its dagger-like hand to slash at me with blinding speed. I took cut after cut from it till I got used to it; it had high speed, which it used to bleed out its foes. But that would work on me, who could heal.

Slash coming from the left blocked kick right side while open, miss fuck stabbing my leg as I missed. They were down to half hp just after 4 minutes of fighting. But as time passed, fighting at a higher speed felt more manageable than I used to. A smile was plastered across my face while we fought each other. This was the funniest fight I had where I could let loose. I used Inferior Void Slash to block a magic slash from it.

Slashing, cutting, stabbing, and ripping everything was like a dance of death as claw met dagger arm. It tried to slash at my stomach, so I twisted to bite the arm to keep it still, and just as I was going to cut it with my right claw, it stabbed down at my head. I had to block with my right hand as it bit deep into the flesh, but I held tight, not letting go of it, allowing me to land a devastating blow.

That's when something interrupted our fight to the death as it slammed into the back of the Traceling, knocking it over and me with it. I let go of the Traceling and jumped away to see what had attacked us. Frightkid Lv 1 Tier 2.

Why the fuck was a tier 2 doing here in the plains where tier 1 was. Then I recognized the face it had as I had killed a smaller one that had a similar look as this one did. Did I kill its pup? It was over 5ft (1.52 meters) tall and 6ft (1.83 m) long. Fucking thing was huge. I might not win this alone. So I healed myself, and the Trace dropped my mp to below half. “Want to finish our fight later? This bastard interrupted the fun we were having.” I said to the insect monster. It only shrugged as it stood up and prepared itself for fighting a tier higher than ourselves. Luckily it was only a level 1, so it wouldn't be that impossible to kill.

Trace went around it to flank it and bled it while I took up the job as bait and tank for this fight. 2 light bolts shot towards its face as I backed away from it, making it look like I was running from it. It was faster than the Frightling I had killed before but not as fast as the both of us. But it had incredible strength every stomp it made cracked the ground sending little rocks flying as it thrashed around, trying to stomp me. At least it wasn't that smart.

Hit and runs were the tactics we had to use because of how tough its skin was. It took a lot to damage it. Trace and I were tired from the fight we had. Twenty minutes passed. I used everything I had to kill this, using only light bolts to do significant damage to kill it. Forty minutes passed while we fought it; it was slowly being destroyed. Ten minutes later, it was finally dead. The both of us fell to the ground, both in ragged states, due to pushing are selves too far to kill this stupid thing. Pain lanced through my body as I gulped the air into my lungs. The Traceling was lying on the ground, barely moving at all. “Let's fight another day when we both are rested and ready to go. But not until we are strong enough to keep others from interfering with our fight. That sounds good to you.” I was breathing out loudly as I talked. I looked over to it, raised its dagger hand, and waved as if to say okay. That is good enough for me. After fighting for that long, I was hungry again. Crawling over to the dead body, I started to saw away at it to get some meat off of it to eat, and I also cut some off for the Traceling that was still lying there. Tossing over some of it, I ate and rested there as my resources regenerated enough to head back to the pond. If I stay too long, something may come and finish us off. “Want to head back to the pond after resting to recover and rest there fully?” I moaned to it.

It nodded as it didn't move while shoving the meat into its maw. That was fine by me, and It would be fun to hang out with this strong monster. I can't wait till we can fight again. We are tied right now due to outside intervention. It may be more fun not to kill it the next time we fight so that we can fight again and again after that. I'll look at my notifications after resting at the pond for a while to avoid making a mistake when putting points somewhere like Chs. A shiver ran down my spine as I thought of wasting points on something like that.

After 10 minutes of resting, we ate more of the body of the Frightkid and left the plains, and headed back to the pond. Nothing attacked us after seeing us kill a tier 2. So the trip was pretty relaxing after a long fight like that. It took a while, but we finally got into the with quite a bit of time left in the day, so we split up and went to different sides of the pond to drink and rest. I will check the system notification after some sleep. I'm so tired; hopefully, I can sleep this time.
