Unfortunately, Myrtie had decided that I would not be allowed to harm that guy, instead she and Bear would take care of the man themselves, since he would not really die if it was them who had done the deed.
I did suggest that she could just trap another poor soul that happens to be a mutt so that it could help in tracking but she said that she had hit the limits of how many pets she could posses, luckily. Though after a while I remembered that bears was among the animals with the best sense of smell.
When we payed another of our precious eggs to the information broker, he had added in the fact that the guy we had decided to hunt down had been seen leaving for the forest a few hours ago, he must have a lot of dedication to wake up so early.
His appearance was of a tall lanky guy with short brown hair and black eyes, his age estimated to be 14 due to a a hint of features that belonged to a young child, he was wearing nothing but short pants and also, he had a bandage on his arm, perhaps a attack from a beast or a player.
So with my backpack filled with only 5 eggs left, we left in hopes of finding him.
Instead of walking with Myrite and the bear who was in fluffy form on the forest floor, I jumped around the trees, also in fluffy form. She had insisted that I be their 'back up plan' if there was any problems so currently, I was just pouncing around in the treetops while trying to detect any unnatural noises that doesn't belong to any animals.
We didn't have any items of that guy, so honestly, bear was rather useless, however, he proved himself by picking up scents of humans, despite that he did not come into contact with many scents of beasts, he somehow was able to differentiate them with humans, which I guess was helpful.
Myrite ordered us to not attack anyone other from our current target because if we do so, players could notice something was amiss and leave the forest and perhaps alarm the guy.
Even though corpses would disappear like magic, there was a chance of being seen.
After many tries, we finally found him, indeed as described, he had extremely short hair and was half naked with only pants, shoes and a belt. Though his muscular body how as a bit concerning, it showed that he wasn't some defenseless kid, currently in his right hand was the neck of a young girl, perhaps merely a 14 year old, she was currently desperately hugging on to a single egg, her arms covering it as tears flowed freely down her cheeks
At first I wanted to wait a while for him to let his guard down after but instead of doing so, the bear charged out shouting "Jolie!", he was currently naked as he had changed back, in his hand was a wooden sword he used for competitions.
I wanted to help, but I can't you know~ disobeying orders gave me a really painful electric shock that could compromise my safety due to the paralyzing effects, so I sat in the trees as Myrite rushed out to help with a slow speed.
Unfortunately, the guy had been alerted of the bear's presence due to his shouting and had roughly thrown the girl aside and took out his throwing knives that was sheathed on his custom made belt that hung from his waist.
With caution displayed on his face, he backed away knowing that his weapons were useless in close combat. He then raised his knives, warning the bear of the consequences of coming closer.
I could tell he wasn't capable of killing the girl, he probably just wanted her egg and then he would have left her alone but due to the bear's sudden appearance, he panicked and picked up his weapons.
Myrite was still roughly 50 meters from them, how slow~
Despite the guy's warning, the bear responded by increasing his speed, thinking that he could dodge the guy's attacks.
Seeing how bear did not stop, he panicked and threw his first knife, which had missed by a large margin, I chuckled thinking about how he was able to survive all the ambushes he had probably come into contact with due to him possessing a uncommon egg this long with such sloppy attacks.
The guy threw yet another knife of his limited supply, this time aimed at the bear's leg, hoping to slow him down, this time he was close and probably could have hit the bear but luckily, the bear had jumped and the knife missed yet again.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
At that time, most people would have retreated and tried another approach but the bear continued his charge, should I praise him for his confidence or pray for his stupidity?
The third and forth knives all flew passed him with a whoosh and landed on aunlucky trees, at that moment the bear was already rather close to the boy with only an estimated distance of 7 meters or so, the bad side of this situation was that it was easier to hit him.
Just as I predicted, the knife pierced into his left arm, while his right arm was the one holding on to the sword, with a roar, he pounced as anger took over his rationality, he aimed for the guy's left hand that was in charge of shooting and I scoffed, he should have aimed for the head, despite it being merely a wooden sword, his strength could have caused a concussion and effectively save the female, but I suppose decapitating one of his arm could work too.
Unfortunately, the guy was fast enough and his right hand, which the bear did not care enough to be cautious, shoved his last knife into bear's chest, causing the bear to roughly fall to the ground mid pounce and using that chance, he turned to retreat from Myrite who was closing onto him.
Seeing that the guy was attempting to escape, she manipulated the ground and caught one of the guy's foot. As he fell, she raised a knife she had grabbed from a tree when he had missed bear, there was tears in her eyes as she shoved the knife into the guy's heart.
After she had done so, she rushed towards bear who now was dead with two knives lodged firmly into his body, squatting down, she reached towards the knife that was in his chest but was stopped by me. I had climbed down when she attacked the guy.
"You do know you can't save him, he's already dead." I said as I pulled her up for her to face me, she looked into my eyes furiously as she wiped away her tears.
"Why didn't you help?" She asked, her index finger pointing accusingly at me.
"I can't, I can only kill people you allow me to, if I tried, I would have been paralyzed by the electric shock and thus be vulnerable. Anyways, he should respawn after this game." I said, my face still calm.
"How do you know this guy wasn't a murderer?" She asked, her eyes filled with hope, but as she mentioned the guy, her eyes widened with realization, remembering that she had killed someone and fell down, starting to vomit.
I took a step back, not wanting her puke on me. I waited rather impatiently as she finished vomiting, the commotion here would have probably attracted some people that was confident of killing someone.
When she was done, I pulled her up and said "He's not a murderer, he and bear will be fine, let's go."
Retrieving the eggs and the belt sheath along with the throwing knives, I wanted to leave but was stopped by a meek voice "A-Are you s-s-sure Jonathan is gonna be okay?"
Turning around, I realized that this was the girl the bear desperately wanted to save "I am, so are you his sister or something?"
Shaking her head, she blushed and I guessed their relation immediately, turning to leave, she called out suddenly "W-w-wait! T-thank you for saving m-m-m-me, umm......c-can I, I...I come with y-you?" She asked hopefully with her large blue eyes.
Honestly, she was useless. Seeing how she still stuttered terrified even after the threat was eliminated showed her incompetence during important battles, she would only become a burden in the future. Just as I was about to reject her, a voice that was unusually gentle came from behind me "You can."
Myrite walked towards the girl as I stared stupefied at her back, helping her up "This is what we can currently do for Jonathan, until he is back, we'll protect you." She smiled.
With my left eyelid twitching in annoyance, I walked away, thinking about how dumb some people could be.
