My attention was taken from my writing with the door to my office being open.
"Manager Oliver" Burns came into the room with papers in hand. "A New day means New Abnormalities, so I got you some papers to choose which we go for first" First, that meant we were getting them all either way. Burns placed the papers onto my desk and stood in place, waiting for my answer.
WhiteNight, Red Shoes, and the Meat Lamp. That was the abnormalities if I recalled the numbers correctly, the main question I had was whether or not WhiteNIght reverted to Plague doctor when they first get here, as I would rather not have WhiteNight in their final form so early in the new Corp's life,The Red shoes would easily be handled, none of the agents have a terrible mental fortitude, and finally the meat lamp, something that could instantly kill Clerks and Agents, it would require my constant attention as well if it breaches, and doing that while other abnorms require attention would prove to be difficult. I picked up the paper for The Red Shoes and handed it to Burns, we weren't too focused on energy right now, we weren't trying to light up the entire city like the original was, nor create the light either.
"Alright sir, I'll let the others know" Burns nodded before heading out. I rested my head on my hand as i leaned over my desk. It was a stupid thing to complain about, but it felt like my senses were getting dull sitting here, the other agents were perfectly capable by themselves, I was getting used to dealing with abnormalites and distortions that sitting here felt like the wrong thing to do.
"Manager Oliver" Another agent had entered my room, along with the woman from yesterday. "She wanted to see you"
"Alright, you're good to go" I sat up and crossed my legs as the woman came over. The agent left soon after I spoke as well. "Didn't you say you'd wait until I went back to Lob Corp?"
"I know, but I've noticed something bout your agents, they seem good at getting rid of Insane Agents and Abnormalities, but what about other fixers?"
"Syndicates don't know another Lobotomy Corp is active, we made sure our power generation wouldn't be noticed"
"Noticed for now, every day you get a new Abnormality right?" I didn't bother answering "Well, that means sooner or later they'll notice, after all, you want to avoid as much casualties as possible"
"That's exactly why we won't be noticed, it's just a theory of mine, but I've noticed the days end faster when Agents die, my theory is that Abnormalities actually produce more energy when others die."
"And if you get abnorms that require people's death?"
"I don't intend to sacrifice anyone"
"So you say...listen we're getting off track, if Fixers do come here, you may have issues, and so, I'm asking to become the leader of the Disciplinary Department"
"We don't even have that open, nor close to it."
"Well, who said you have to mimic L Corp to a tea?" Normally the Disciplinary Department comes after the Central Command Department...however, she was right, I could skip Info, Saftey, Training, Central Command, all the way to Disciplinary instantly.
"Guess you're right, though, why should I make you a sephirah? I don't recall you working in L Corp at all"
"There were other branches you know, the disciplinary department in my L Corp was ruthless, I wondered for a long time if they were a color, but then they died to your average grade 3 fixer, turned out the guy was all talk, even if his advice about combat was useful, his actual skill was worse than a grade 9 fixer raised in the nest"
"You know people get access to the nest by being wealthy or skilled right?"
"Fine, a grade 9 fixer raised by a wealthy family in the nest, better?" She sounded annoyed, yet she seemed entertained by the banter
"A bit"
"So, what's the verdict?"
"I'll change the way we're building it, however, I at least want the Information Department to be active, it provides useful benefits we could use." Something else was bothering me. "And, who even are you?"
"Bit rude ain't that?"
"Not really, you've been sticking close, even in here where I'm safe, not to mention, you seem like someone who could take on the index, it's not like they send an army after you"
"They do once they realize you're a threat"
"Even so, I don't even know your name."
"Well, how about this, the main Branch of L Corp, has Sephirahs who used fake names correct?"
"They were machines in my branch, but it seemed that way"
"Then, how about you call me Fixit"
"Fixit?"
"Why not? I'm a fixer, fixers fix problems, and people only know me as a fixer not someone who worked at L Corp, so, Fixit"
"If that's what you want" I put Fixit into the database, for now they'd be marked as an agent "Course, I won't make you a sephirah right away due to making Information Dep first, for now I want you to be an agent"
"Fine with me" She took out a lighter and began smoking something once more. "I'll be working with the other agents if you need me" Another thing bothered me about her, it really did seem like she didn't need the index's protection, and here she was getting a prescript, what was even the time limit for hers, I doubt they expect her to protect me forever...More so, i was still curious about why two people so far have gotten prescripts about me. I didn't have time to ask as she already left, but after a while I could see on the cameras that she was working...nothing to complain about if she's doing her job I guess.
After about an hour or two into the day, Tsuki returned to my room along with the others.
"Oliver" Taylor greeted me first, I nodded in acknowledgment.
"What're you all doing here?" I continued to monitor the cameras, making sure everything went perfectly, I did see some agents moving to their departments.
"Not for anything serious, we just thought we should have lunch with our bud" Ao held a drink in his left hand, no one paid any mind to it.
"So that's where everyone was going" I leaned back on my chair more.
"We didn't know if the original L Corp had one, but we got an eating area so we can be more time efficient" Tsuki seemed proud of it, so I came under the assumption she made or had the idea of it.
"We're eating here though, with the agents we have with just one department, it's kinda crowded" Taylor moved his hair out of his face. "You don't mind us using your table right?"
"Go ahead" I remained at my desk while the others sat down, the only thing I really ate was some food bars. Even though I knew they wouldn't escape i kept an eye on the cameras.
"People don't take us fixers seriously" Shina started talking after a while, no, i was sure they were talking before and I just blocked it out. "if you're below grade 5 you're treated like a kid, hell I've seen grade 9s who are better than grade 1s."
"I think that guy was a specific case, heard he got demoted"
"Still a grade 9 no?"
"By technicality, I guess" Tsuki and Shina kept going back and forth.
"Hey Oliver, a group of agents and I wanted to head into another wing, there's a workshop some of us have been invited too" Taylor spoke over the other two, yet they continued talking about the grade 9 fixer. "I was wondering if you wanted to tag along" I had almost forgotten about the workshop in our office.
"Taylor"
"Yeah?"
"Do you know why a workshop was in our office? They said it was a gift from a syndicate, yet they didn't know which one"
"Who's they?" Tsuki diverted from her previous conversation.
"Some robots who work in the workshop.
"Hm...I don't recall one ever being there" Taylor seemed genuinely confused...guess there's no reason to pursue an answer.
"This is the first I've heard of that" Shina spoke as well.
"We should investigate it more later, for now, Taylor, let's head to that workshop you got into" I got up and put on my outfit, the others noticed the changes.
"uh...So is your rifle meant to just be floating on your back?" Ao questioned.
"Like I said, we have one helluva workshop in under our fixer office." I went to the door and held it open.
"Well, if this workshop sucks we know where to go, see you all later?" Taylor was expressive during his exit. I followed shortly after. "I already told the agents to wait by the entrance"
"Which wing are we even heading to?"
"K Corp, they're known for quickly healing mental and physical injuries, almost making people Immortal" Taylor responded to my question
"I see, it's a shame so many corps hide their real singularity, it would make it much easier to know what we're dealing with in case we do get found out."
"Well they wouldn't be able to make as much money if they told the truth, imagine if W Corp was honest" Tsuki spoke again, she then went on to make fun of them. "Hey everyone, you know those trains you rode on? They're actually a save point and allow us to brutalize you over and over again without you ever dying, but you forget it by the end so it's fine."
"I feel some people would still go on"
"And some might start taking W Corp trains just to see if they can beat the people who attack them" I responded almost instantly after Shina spoke.
"Oh, Oliver, there is another reason we're heading to the K Wing, we've got a mission for us" Taylor told me of another thing. I assumed this was a mission for our fixer office and not the new L Corp. "There are some people who keep snooping around K Corp, they're supposedly attempting to steal the bullets that heal their people."
"Healing bullets...haven't I heard that before...hang on, does that mean this is a job from K Corp themselves?"
"From the sound of it yeah, but the letter they gave us was pretty bare, with almost nothing to go on...still, if we start ignoring jobs people will get suspicious considering we used to be an active office." Taylor was right, taking this job would give me more time in L Corp, if this mission is dangerous enough we could also pretend we're recovering, and that's why we can't take more missions.
"Since we're on the topic we should also take notice that sooner or later we are going to be noticed, it's just a matter of when."
"We got the numbers, Taylor, let's go" Taylor finished up his food and joined me out the door and to the entrance of the facility. Just like Taylor said agents were waiting to go with us.
"Here" While we began making it to K Corp Taylor handed me my fixer badge. "This has a use now you know, it makes getting in through the checkpoint easier."
"I know how this works" I took it and clipped it on my jacket, just where my ribs ended.
"We also got a ride though we gotta get out of the L DIstrict before that" I understood why, it would be weird if some vehicle entered into an area that was meant to be abandoned and became the slums.
Making our way through was simple, either people knew not to mess with us, or were too starved to do anything effective, it was a horrid sight to look at when I spent most of my life here.
"I wonder if the slums or the backstreets are worse" One of the agents spoke.
"Backstreets by far, at least in the slums there's no wing to abduct on you"
"Yeah, but in the backstreets there's still cheap food and at least some form of housing, not to mention, people in the nest...which is now the slums here, don't know how to defend themselves...at least most of them"
"I guess that's a good point" The agents had a back and forth, but it didn't end there, another one of the agents spoke and gave their opinion.
"I think they're about equal one had no cheap food and housing, yet the other has stuff like the index and all that, having the wings is good and bad, not having the wings is good and bad, it's like saying the outskirts is better in some places" The agents began to collectively agree with her. Taking a look, there were seven of us, if you include me and Taylor in that.
"Being in the nest ain't much better, it feels like you're endlessly fighting for a place to stay, the same could be said for the backstreets" I joined in the conversation, it seemed like they treated me like one of them when we were outside, something I wasn't mad at either.
"Right, you lived in a nest, I think it's about fifty-fifty through the facility, half nest, half backstreets, maybe we should have a pole on which is better."
"I'll think about it" Taylor spoke.
That's how the walk out of the district went, random banter, there was nothing to go off of or think about for the job description, so talking about something entirely different was the only option. Once we exited the district I noticed a pretty big and reinforced van, Taylor and the others heading for it so I followed to.
"As you can see, we might as well have our own company vehicle" Taylor spoke and sounded proud of himself.
"We're not a compa-...nevermind" I let him have his fun. The window rolled down and Fixit was there.
"Sup" She rested her arm where the window used to be. She noticed the question face I had and answered a question I didn't ask. "I told you I'll be tagging along whenever you leave L Corp, you think I was joking? Come on Oliver you're sitting up here" I went around the van and got in the passenger seat, the others got in the back. When I turned and looked at the opening to the back I saw them putting on similar outfits, it seemed they went all in on the company thing, they looked really official too. "You're staying in your jacket, it makes it obvious you're the boss" She started the van up and began driving, music was playing to at least make the ride somewhat less boring.
"If you're the driver, i assume you're not following all the way" I crossed my legs, it was difficult to do in a car but was still possible.
"I can follow enough that I know you're not dying out of sight, the mission doesn't require you all to be inside for long, so I'll know if you guys are in danger." It was an answer that made sense.
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
"Alright, I got the important question" The female agent from earlier spoke up again after getting on her uniform. "What is everyone doing after we beat the library?"
"Depends if my prescript is counted as done" Fixit answered first, by the way, she sounded I assumed she told everyone why she was our ally.
"If it is counted as done?"
"I'll head to the outskirts, after doing more research there's something I wanted to find." Her expressions were still neutral, I couldn't tell what she was looking for, whether it was unfinished business, or something that made her happy.
"Well, I for one wanted to open up my own fixer office, I heard a rumor that if you beat the library it brings back everything to how it was before, so there will be many different abnormalities and people that wings and districts would want dead."
"Not a bad idea" I supported it, I've yet to see my agents falter, though it hadn't been long since the Corp was made, but if there were so many with such little Abnorms, it's either they're horrifically terrible, or so well trained, that these are all the agents we need, considering the breach we went through when we rerouted the power I think it's the second.
"Being a fixer is difficult though" Taylor brought up the bad sides of it. "Money being a main problem, though after we beat the library that won't be much of an issue."
"I think if we beat the library some of us would get a nest permit somewhere, I mean, it's rising in rank very quickly. I just wanna rest, I think after all of this is over I'd have enough of fixing and fighting for a lifetime, I'd probably open up some weapon shop though" Surprisingly, the agent who looked like they had the most battle experience, with scars and their scratched armor, had the least care for continuing a path like that...then again that made it make sense.
We made it to the K Corp Checkpoint, a guard walked up to Fixit and began to talk to her, while another few guards told us to exit the vehicle. We all listened and exited, due to our outfits our weapons didn't stand out much, if anything we'd look weirder without weapons in this attire.
"State your reasons for entry" Even I was somewhat intimidated by the guards, knowing that if things went wrong and we fought them, we'd horribly lose due to their healing. I took off my badge and showed it to the guard.
"Oliver, the leader of an office that K Corp hired to search for elusive thieves" The guard took the badge and looked at it, every now and then they'd look at me, then back at the badge. After about a minute he handed the badge back.
"Enter the checkpoint and check in with the guards inside" I followed his orders and entered the checkpoint from the door the guards opened. It felt like some fast pass, as normal-looking people were behind a glass wall trying to get in, though it was almost pointless as the line looked like it never moved.
"Your name and reason for entry" Another guard brought my attention back to why we were here. I showed the badge again.
"Oliver, the leader of the office that K Corp hired to search for thieves who're going after your singularity" I explained it more in-depth than before.
"Ah, a grade one fixer" I never recalled actually being grade one, my badge never said my grade either...did I somehow manage to get a higher grade without paying attention...or was my memory that bad? "We'll trust you and your office to deal with it alone, good luck" They seemed more respectful than when I was a lower grade. I wonder how I'd be treated if I was a color. The others made their way inside and did the same thing I did. I leaned on the glass wall while I watched them and made sure no one did anything wrong. I was grateful that Taylor got us a mission in this Corp now instead of trying to go through that never-ending line.
A heavy force knocked me off the glass, I quickly placed a foot forward to rebalance myself, I turned around and looked through the glass. One of the guards had tackled someone in line and they got slammed against the glass.
"You're all good to go" A guard in a different outfit spoke after all of our badges were checked. I rejoined the others as we made our way through the checkpoint. When we got back onto the streets I saw our van slowly driving through a heavily guarded vehicle checkpoint, when it made it through the entire thing she drove the van over to us.
"Fuckin hell that checkpoint was annoying, they checked every single ounce of the van like we pried the floor of this thing." We all reentered the van and made sure we were ready.
"So, Oliver, we doing the workshop first or the job? I got a request to be there by the workshop itself, so we can go even after closing hours."
"We'll do the job then, as it's more time-sensitive" While we drove through the district, towards the center of the nest, I tried taking a mental note of how the place was. "Wait" I realized something about the checkpoint. "Fixit, you got through the checkpoint using only a codename?"
"As I said, I'm not some unknown fixer, I might not be as good or popular as a color, but some Corps recall who I am as I've done jobs for them. So yeah, being called Fixit worked." It seemed Fixit and I were somewhat in the same boat, the only difference is I was recalled as a grade one fixer even though I've never been to this corp and I'm not a grade one.
"Back on topic" The female agent spoke again. "We should check where they were first reported and go from there"
"I can agree with that" I began ignoring the outside, it began to blur after a point
"By the way, do we know how many people are involved with this mission?" Fixit asked, I saw where she was coming from "If thieves were going after the corp's singularity then that means other fixers could have been given the job, or it means there are plenty of thieves we should keep an eye for."
"To be fair, we're just taking the job so the office doesn't arise suspicion" Taylor crossed his legs in the middle of his sentence.
"To be fair we'll raise suspicion if we don't do shit either." Fixit shot down the idea of just letting the other fixers do it.
"From what I know we're the first ones here who're doing the job, and our fixer office is known for getting the job done, I think we only have three out of thirty-seven missions where we had to back out."
"So, if you're gonna be a syndicate what would your thing be? Zwei is focused on protecting others as an example." Fixit made a turn after we drove straight for a while.
"Can't think of any, I only thought I'd stay as an office, being a syndicate is too much to handle, at least in L Corp I was used to it, and the manager doesn't need to do much if they have competent agents." I was thinking of kicking my feet up on the dashboard but decided against it after Fixit glared at me halfway through the motion. She had to protect me for now, but she could always go against me whenever the prescript was considered done.
"Alright, we're at the first investigation point, get to it people." Fixit opened the passenger and back door with a button. We, except for Fixit, left the van "I'm gonna drive around and ask the nest if they've seen anything. I'll be back in thirty minutes, don't go anywhere without notifying me" She shook the mic of the radio on the dashboard before driving off.
A first look at the entire scene didn't really say much, only a few discarded things remained here, and none led to anything.
"How're we meant to follow something that looked as though it weren't even here?" One of the agents spoke, he was right however, Fixit is already asking around, and we couldn't just stay here for half an hour.
"What if the thieves aren't human? Maybe it could be some distortion" The female agent's theory was plausible, we weren't told what the thieves looked like after all.
"It's possible..." I looked over the scene again, the wall they were trying to break through is completely there, and only a small dent was left, there were small pieces of scrap yet we couldn't prove the scrap was the thieves, the scrap was almost unseeable as well, you'd have to be searching for it, knowing it's there. "But what kind of Distortion or Abnorm could relate to this?" I heard the sound of the van returning, I turned around and saw what looked like our van, yet, Fixit wasn't the driver.
The back of the van opened up and revealed Tsuki and Burns, they stepped out with Tuski carrying a clipboard.
"We got info about the thieves, Fixit sent it to us, she figured we could get here faster than her" Tsuki flipped through the clipboard's papers before stopping at one near the end.
"You guys had to go through the checkpoint though, how would that be faster?" Taylor was the first to ask the question, stopping a few others including myself from saying it.
"We were already in K Corp, we had a report of something that could help LC:SW" Tsuki said something I didn't understand, I got the LC part but not the SW part. "Right, We had decided calling it just Lobotomy Corp would confuse others when we're talking about the first one. So we decided to call it LC:SW, Lobotomy Corporation Second Wave, after all we're going to be found out anyways" LC:SW...Lobotomy Corporation: Second Wave...What a mouthful to say in a conversation.
"And this info?" I got back on track.
"Right, almost every eyewitness is stating the thieves to resemble something that's 17 feet tall and somewhat human" Almost instantly after hearing that I looked back at the wall, looking up higher, and wouldn't you know, a very slight hole in the wall was there.
"Well, it isn't a normal person" The female agent, which will now be referred to as F Agent, stated.
"Well, they could've stacked, there are pieces of scrap, for all we know they built something, it still resembled a human after all." Another agent, this time an agent that came with Burns and Tsuki spoke.
"That's something to consider, where did the scrap come from?" Burns spoke up...Something made me feel off, something about the scrap, but not the scrap itself.
"Oi" I got the agent's attention, the one who talked about the scrap. "We didn't mention the scrap earlier, how'd you know?" The agent looked at me like a fool.
"You didn't place it back, of course, I'd see it" I turned around, and wouldn't you know, it was right there...I don't recall it being there...but it was.
"How'd you know it wasn't there to begin with?" Even so, I still felt curious.
"Alright, knock it off, we got a job to do" Tsuki cut it short.
"Back to what we were saying, the scrap, it doesn't look like it could do anything, unless whatever they made, made it to the other side" Burns spoke up again.
"We could head underground, perhaps we can find a route that leads us past the wall, I don't suspect that even with our IDs they'll allow us in" It was getting hard to differentiate who was who, same armor, same helmet.
"We should at least try" Taylor looked back at the wall.
"Dunno if we got that time" Tsuki looked at something in the van. "No, don't think we do"
"Tunnel it is, however, if things get dangerous we get out" Everyone was in agreement with what I said.
"I saw it when we were driving, just this way" The agent began to lead us, we left the van behind, but it seemed locked and secure enough to still be in one piece upon our return. The agents who were in front of us took out a light source and lit the way as we descended into the tunnels.
"Kinda reminds me of the backstreets" F agent commented. "Creepy, unkept, dark, next thing you know a bakery will be here." I knew what she was talking about, I found it slightly humorous.
"Why would there even be a tunnel leading into their singularity? Am I the only one thinking that?" One of the agents spoke, and they had a good point too.
"Well, I assume our friend knows the wa-" When I turned around the agent was gone, the one who suggested we go down, and the one who I was skeptical of as well. There was a trail of this horrible-smelling goop as well, yet its scent blended in with the smell of this tunnel.
"Ah shit" Tsuki took out her weapon as did the rest when they saw what I did.
"No one get out of sight, always stay in someone's vision" We all huddled together, either it had to attack us all at once or not at all. We shuffled as one, making sure no one tripped.
"What's the theory? Was he killed or was the Abnorm himself?" F agent asked our thoughts on it.
"Could be the abnormality itself" Burns was the first to answer.
"Whatever it was, the guy led us to danger, and we can't come the way we came, clearly it's there." Every now and again I could hear something drop, like water hitting the floor, but the sound was more heavy. When we all moved once more the sound of the drop hitting the floor stopped, and instead a part of it dripped onto me.
Everyone looked up including myself, yet when I looked up, I wasn't where I was at first, it was like I looked up from having my head against a desk. The sudden change made me feel sick, my attire, my height, everything was how it was when I was a kid.
"What're you doing?" A kid came up to me, resting his hands on my desk. "A-are you okay?" Their voice and attitude changed once they saw how I was, I had a vision about the library, and that was in the future...But did my visions go so far that I imagined LC:SW? imagined I was at a nest...It wasn't possible, I started getting visions during L Corp. "You hear me right?" The kid talked again...
"Leo..." I stared at him, he didn't remember me at L Corp...and yet here I am...or perhaps, my mind was going against me again...and I never met him here.
"Y-you know my name?" He looked confused. "S-sorry, if we've met before! There's so much going on I forget things a lot"
"No...No...we haven't, I guess you can say I've heard a lot about you"
"I never knew I was that well known" He smiled and picked up a bag I guess I had. "Come on, everyone is outside right now, you can join us" He extended out his hand for me to take, I looked at him, staying like this was the wrong thing to do, and I was tired of being held back by these fake visions.
"Leo"
"Hm?"
"Once more...I must say, I'm sorry"
"What!?" I reached to the side of me, if this was real and not a vision, it would just be weird, but if this is a vision, if this is fake, then I'd cut it down. I made a motion as though I was slashing and the world changed back, a disgusting creature replaced Leo, and we returned back to the tunnels. Everyone else seemed staggered but were regaining their composure too. This thing resembled almost exactly the profile we were given, it looked long and tall, it resembled something of a human molded into one another.
"Oliver, you alright?" The only one standing was Tsuki. "The hell happened?" I see, this thing triggered some deep memory in the others...Tsuki seemed immune to it.
"It's manipulating us, don't hold back on it"
"Not much I could do when I'm the only one who was fighting it" A claw appeared from the creature's chest and slashed at Tsuki, she crouched down and came over to me. "Can you stand?" My vision was still distorted, I thought I was standing...
"I think..." I reached for a hand which Tsuki provided, she helped me up.
"What was that!?" The F agent sounded in pain, but they stood up okay.
"We can think on it later!" The claw struck at Tsuki and I again, I took out my rifle and used it to block the slash, it worked but I was still grazed."Hey! What happened to our Abnorm cards?" I just remembered them, they seemed to not work at all anymore.
"It's working for me" I looked down at the bracelet, there was a green light...Guess it's only failing for me. The abnorm smashed at the ground, I almost lept out of the way, sliding across the ruined floors while firing a shot at one of the creature's heads. I couldn't see what Tsuki was doing due to the size of the arm the claw was attached to but it seemed to affect it, alongside my shot. The F agent slammed a two-handed hammer onto the claw, it let out this horrible attempt at a cry, it was attempting to be human, but unlike the other creatures that have tried, this thing is nothing close to it, it was just a terrible imitation.
"Tsuki! Get down!" I warned her on the other side as I fired another shot at the arm, almost as soon as it got hit, it retracted its arm back into the mess it was, F Agent's hammer was slightly slid forward from the momentum but she was able to keep it with her. When I looked toward Tsuki's location I saw her standing up again, it seems she heard me. "Damnit" I remembered the new addition to my rifle, it still hurt very slightly, but didn't kill, I didn't have to risk her getting hit when she was down. "Keep its attention!" I made sure Tsuki and F agent heard me as I went over to the others. I didn't know how I would, but I was going to try and wake them up. When I crouched down to the first one, which was one of Tsuki's agent, he already began waking up before I could do anything.
"Mr. Oliver, it seems that experience was connected, the others should awaken soon, please focus on the battle" He sat up and held his head, if it was connected maybe i could've helped if I stayed a bit longer.
"Alright" I saw that a new arm had returned, it held a halberd that was double the normal size, its arm was back on the floor and I contemplated whether I should leap on it and go behind it, but if it focused on me, i'd be on my own back there. I took more of a look at the creature, it had tendrils wrapping around the ceiling, it gave me an idea. I fired a shot at the tendrils but it quickly used some of its mass to block it.
"I see the idea" Tsuki spoke up.
"Same here!" F agent saw as well.
"Focus on distracting it" Tsuki's agent held a rifle "I'll take the shot" The agent motioned towards a katana they dropped at the start. I picked it up, it had been a while since I held another weapon other than the rifle, but I remember the weapons I had at L Corp, I wasn't a complete newbie. I rejoined the others.
"Tsuki, boost!" The F agent distracted it while Tuski crouched down to boost me. I hopped my foot onto her hands and she threw me up, I landed on it, and to my surprise, the top was nearly solid. Another arm grew from the top and swung an axe at me, it was normal-sized. I raised my sword at an angle and pressed my hand against the flat part of the blade to support it when it got hit. The arm went lanky as it changed its attack, it swung at my legs, cutting the right one deep and grazing the left. I winced and my body shifted as my right leg began to lose the strength to keep me up, in a half-efforted attempt I tried slashing up at the tendrils at the ceiling, it didn't do much but it seemed to draw its full attention to me, I jumped off of the creature as it tried slashing at me again, I landed but immediately fell over as the impact caused my right leg to give out. The creature swung down at me but a loud and impactful shot cut through the ceiling tendrils. The roof of the tunnels began to collapse and crushed the creature, the arm that swung at me was practically cut apart from the thing.
"I doubt that's it" Tsuki's agent lifted me up, I leaned on him as he wrapped my arm over his shoulder. "The arm may have been cut, but the beast's top half was more solid, and even normal cuts couldn't do much to its weaker flesh."
"We should report it" F Agent spoke up after rejoining us. Tsuki came over next, along with the others who sluggishly waltzed over.
"My head" One of our agents was tightly gripping their head.
"Regardless, I think we figured out what the thieves were, though why would it want K-Corps stuff?" Taylor questioned the Abnormalties' motive.
"From what it seems, it wants to be human, or something of it, it uses human weapons, tries to mimic human sounds, tries to mimic memories. Maybe it figured out that humans were healed by the bullets, so perhaps it thinks it can become one if they use it." I gave my opinion on it.
"That's...kinda sad" F Agent looked back at the debris that blocked the abnorm from attacking us any further. "All this, and it won't even work"
"We should head back to our vehicles and let the K-Corp know what happened," Tsuki wrote down everything that happened "We should be able to just tell any K-Corp member...at least the higher-up guards"
"Let's just get out of here before that thing comes from the walls again" What Taylor said interested me.
"It came from the ceiling, not walls"
"No...it didn't, it was the walls" After Taylor went against what i said the agents began arguing, half said it was the walls, the other from the ceiling.
"Enough!" They stopped once I raised my voice. "Clearly it's different, perhaps it was both, after all, it manipulated what we thought was real"
"Of course, my apologies" One of Tsuki's agents apologized.
"Let's just get out of here, we can converse later" I led the way outside, the fight made me miss the fact it got brighter down here.
"Heh, back alrea-" Fixit's face was smug, that was until she saw the goop most of us were covered in, and the slashes on me. She opened the passenger door for me while the other agents went into their respective vehicles. It was difficult to climb into the seat, but I managed with Fixit's help. "What happened?" She asked a while after we started driving back to where we last saw K-Corp guards.
"Some damn Abnormality attacked us after an agent led us down into some tunnel" An answer from an agent was instant.
"I was wondering if we missed one" Her face remained neutral.
"Fixit" Tsuki's voice came over the radio.
"Yeah Miss?" Fixit spoke after pressing a button on the radio.
"Take a different route, there are some weird cultish people where we went" Tsuki went off the radio after that.
"So even the nest has cults, heh, who am I kidding, welcome to the city" She talked to herself in a monotone voice. I finished wrapping a bandage around my wounds, it stung, but the pain from the cut made me feel indifferent to the pain wrapping it caused. "Seems the day is ending" Fixit looked towards the center of the road, her eyes unwavering even when something would happen on the road. "Rest up manager, we still got a workshop to check out later" After Fixit finished talking, I leaned my head on the window, the soft and quiet conversations in the back added to the atmosphere like we were camping out. I didn't go to sleep though, I just continued to look out the window once more till we made it.
