Chapter 8: The Midnight Farmer 2 (He finally started farming)
20 hours have passed and we are finally nearing Darsheen village. The flight this time was relatively nice since Rak-ahn didn’t fly very high or very fast at all. I asked Rak-ahn if the bag was heavy and I got a very short “No” as an answer. I then asked why it only took 20 hours when we were flying at only half the speed as before. The stupid bird simply said “I was trying to shake you off” which infuriated so much that I nearly bashed his head with En-Il’s Hoe. It took a lot of willpower to stop myself since that would end very badly for me since I can see that the stupid bird glancing my way to check how I would react. He probably already figured out what was on the bag and was aiming for it as such I controlled myself…for now. If this stupid bird think I’ll let him get away with it, then he’s very wrong.
“Rak-ahn, you can land here” I tell Rak-ahn to land just outside of Darsheen village
“Hyumen, why stop here when we can just land inside the village?” I can see that Rak-ahn isn’t too pleased to land here probably because he’ll demand more payment from the Elder since it took a long time to complete the task
“It’s about the payment for carrying the bag. I’ll cook the meat here since Lep-ahn and the others won’t be too happy if they see this” and their sharp noses would probably figure out that something’s not right
“Hoh~ very well hyumen, I shall wait patiently for the payment” Rak-ahn said this in a dignified manner but I can see him practically drooling already.
“Hahahah, look forward to it since I’ll be using a very special spice mix just for you~” Yep, it’ll be very, very special
Rak-ahn’s eyes shined even more when he heard the word “Special spice”. If he knew how special it is then he’ll definitely not take a bite of the cooked meat. Well, first things first. I checked inside the bag to see if the meat we carried rotted or not. The fairy Midz said that there’s no need to worry because I have En-Il’s Hoe but it’s still best to check. Midz has also rarely spoken ever since I couldn’t change his name and just gives very short answers if I have any questions.
“Nice~ not a single one rotted at all. Hmmmm, this one should be fine. Time to add my super special spice mix~” I picked a large piece of Wolf meat and added my spice mix
Preparing the meat didn’t take long at all since my efficiency with cooking has risen quite a bit. Rinsing off the salt and adding the spice mix and then cooking didn’t even take 15 minutes. This spice mix is very special since if anyone ever tried it, I am sure they’ll never forget its “effect”. This mix was made by mixing dozens of different chilli peppers from Cayenne and Habanero to the ultra deadly Ghost peppers! I actually planned to use this on the goblins but I was afraid of the ruckus they’ll make so I decided against it.
“Heheheh, here Rak-ahn, make sure you share with your clan alright?” once I finished cooking I added several sauces and wrapped it with leaves to hide the smell of peppers
“Hyumen that is only natural since I am a great ruler. You may keep the horn so that you can call me if you need to go back to Versailles.” Rak-ahn then quickly grabs the meat and then flies off
“Hehehehehehe, I doubt you’ll reach even halfway to your home before you take a bite out of that meat. Hey Midz let’s go” Seeing the greedy bird quickly flying away, I then called out to the silent fairy
“Hmph”
“Haaaaaa…..Seriously though how long do you intend to act like that?”
“Hmph”
“I already told you that there’s some kind of error preventing me from changing your name. I don’t want to keep dealing with you like this so choose. Accept the name, disappear or from this point onwards or I’ll start calling you Ugly Bug” This fairy is really getting on my nerves so I decided to give him an ultimatum
“Uuuuuuu……how could you treat a great fairy like this! En-Il’s legacy must have made a mistake!”
“Mistake or not will not change the current situation. I’m also still waiting for your answer Ugly Bug”
“*Sniff*…….ugly bug……a great fairy like me…….*sniff* call me Midz…..I can’t return to the fairy lands even if I wanted to……*sniff*”
“You should’ve just said so from the very beginning~. Let’s go!” I can see several Leoparn warriors already coming here as well so I carried the large bag and walked towards the village with Midz trailing behind me
~~~~~~~~~~RAK-AHN~~~~~~~~~~~
Right after he left the hyumen, Rak-ahn decided to leisurely fly back to Rak’s cliffs, the home for all the Raks in this part of Vermillion. Rak-ahn is flying just a few meters off the ground enjoying the smell of the cooked meat. Truth be told, Rak-ahn actually did not want to leave Versailles just yet. The reason for this was the meat the hyumen brings to him as offerings. It was the first time since the time of “Plenty” that Rak-ahn had been fed well. He never flew far ever since he tasted those meats on a stick and would purposely wait for a few minutes before appearing to the hyumen.
“Heh~ the smell of this meat is especially good. Even through these leaves I could tell how juicy and savory this meat is. There is even a good amount of spice mixed in which I actually prefer krakakakakaka”
Rak-ahn did not know that the leaves purpose was actually to enhance the smell of the meat but hid the super strong smell of spices. He can only tell that there is a decent amount of “spice” mixed in. The first time he tasted this “spice” was a memory he will not forget anytime soon. The meat that he ate that day smelled heavenly and tasted like nothing he ever had before.
“There should be no problem if I eat this now krakakakakakak. Sharing such a feast should not even be considered!”
Rak-ahn then peels the leaves covering the meat. A strong smell of meat and spices quickly fills his nose but because he was flying, the wind is blowing most of the smell of the spices. If he decided to land then he might have found something wrong but since he was flying, the smell was just right for him. Such an intoxicating smell nearly made him devour the entire meat whole but since that wasn’t actually possible; He decided to just take a very big bite out of the meat.
“Krakakakaka, *Chomp*…..*Gulp*…………………..……..KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
*Thud!*
The great bird Rak-ahn, right after taking a large bite and swallowing the meat, breathed out a large fire like a mighty dragon and then fell straight to the ground! It looked like the old cartoons where if one drops from the sky then he would land head first buried halfway up to his body. If Rak-ahn was flying higher or his level was low then he would have quickly died.
“KRAAAAAAAAAA-------“
Rak-ahn somehow managed to get back on his feet but he lost his ability to speak since it felt like his mouth has melted. He then tried to fly but the searing heat rendered him unable to even flap his wings. Rage and pain circulated in his mind and he wanted to kill the hyumen but that is not the problem at the moment. He needed to find water and since he was flying, he knew the location of the nearest water source. It was not far at all but since the pain and the heat made him somewhat confused and unsteady on his feet such a journey will likely take a while.
“Kraaa”*step*”Kraaa”*step*”Kraaa”*step*
Rak-ahn slowly made his way to where the water was while thinking of how he will kill the hyumen brat. This journey of Rak-ahn will take several days and he would fight for his life several times on the way and will face many trials before he could get a sip of water. But this is a story for another time.
The meat that landed somewhere will be eaten by lots of monsters and like Rak-ahn will give a large cry while falling to the ground or start running away crying. The villagers of Darsheen will hear these howls and would mistake it for ferocious beasts so they would send the warriors to investigate but this is also a story for another time
RIYEN’S HELL'S SPICE: 28 DIFFERENT SPICES WITH 100 DRIED GHOST PEPPERS GROUNDED TOGETHER
ANYONE WHO TASTES THIS WILL FEEL LIKE THEY TOOK A SIP OF MAGMA. THE INTENSE HEAT AND PAIN WILL LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS!………..WILL TAKE YOU STRAIGHT TO HELL IF YOU"RE UNLUCKY!
Made while waiting for Zeke’s steam generator to recharge when he first tested it, found the Green Powder on the bag the Elder gave him so he didn’t use it. Gold cost 900g
~~~~~~~~~Riyen~~~~~~~~~~
The Leoparns that I saw approaching turns out to be Lep-ahn and the 3 Leoparn brothers. They offered to carry the bag which of course I accepted. They were quite surprised when I told them that it was filled with meat in exchange for the ones that was used to pay Rak-ahn. Lep-ahn said that I shouldn’t have bothered and asked if I completed the quest which I confidently answered with “Of course”! Once we’re inside the village, Lep-ahn and I head for the Elder while the 3 brothers went to store the meat. The moment I entered the village, all the villagers that I pass by looks at me and then started following behind which somehow creeped me out. It didn’t take long for us to reach the Elder since she’s standing in front of her tent like always.
“Nnnn……..you have returned young hyuuumen. It is good to see that you are safe”
“Thank you for your concern Elder. I am here to report that I have successfully found the missing piece. Please have a look.” I then take out En’Il’’s Hoe from my personal inventory and presented it to the Elder
“Nnnn! This………..it truly is……….one of our Great God’s legacies” The moment the Elder saw En-Il’s Hoe, tears flowed out of her eyes and the villagers including Lep-ahn suddenly kneeled which made me feel very awkward
*Ding!!*
Quest: Find the Missing Piece has been completed!
Rewards: En-Il’s legacy will be entrusted to you. Other rewards shall be presented by the Elder
Intimacy with the Elder and the villagers of Darsheen is maxed
Level up~ x3
“Ah……this is kinda embarrassing……” I was quite satisfied with the reward since I get to own En-Il’s Hoe and have my intimacy with the villagers maxed
“Nnnahahahhahah, you are still quite a shy one young hyuuumen….no…….Riyen. You have already proven yourself as such it would be an insult to not call you by your name”
“Hahahah, Elder it’s fine to keep calling me young since that’s true anyway. Anyway Elder, do you know anything about Red Lightning?” Now that the quest is over, I wanted to know if the Elder has some information about this
“Nnnn? Red Lightning? I am afraid I do not know anything about this….is it anything important?” I was a bit disappointed that the Elder didn’t know anything about it but I guess that should have been expected
“Elder, you see……..” I then tell the Elder everything that happened at Versailles
I started from the sudden appearance of the goblins and the Goblin Lord Dacrule to the fact that some kind of Red Lightning was killing everyone that tried to enter the forest where the missing piece was. I also tell her about what happened when I combined the missing piece with the Black stick. I finished with the warning that I received from the God En-Il.
“That’s what happened Elder…..I got that warning from the God En-Il before he died”
“Nnnn…..that is indeed quite troubling…..also Riyen.....the Great God……En-Il did not perish. Though we have forgotten our God’s name, we still retain the knowledge that our God is still alive. The proof of this is the legacy….the treasure in your hands…..Lep-ahn gather everyone from the village. It is time to once again re-tell the ancient story”
After saying this, the Elder went back to her tent while Lep-ahn also leaves to round up all the villagers in Darsheen. I’m a bit lost on what to do since the Elder didn’t specify if I should stay or not. The other villagers also seem to have went somewhere for the time being. I was just about to leave when I see Sorud coming over with Ollie at his side.
“Ollie! You look well already! Hahahahha” I was quite happy that Ollie seemed really healthy now and started petting Ollie’s head
*Bruhuhuhuhu*
“Hahahahahah, that tickles Ollie it seems that you’ve made a full recovery! Sorud thanks for taking care of Ollie while I was away” I checked Ollie’s status window and saw that he’s back to top condition, this was most likely because of Sorud
“Hyumen there is no need for that. It was my pleasure to take care of Ollie. I would recommend that you do not work him too hard. I also wish congratulations on completing this quest. I have changed my opinion of you…..a little”
“Only a little huh? Hahahhaha, you don’t need to worry Sorud, I’ll be extra careful” This was the first time that Sorud actually properly talked to me. He would only say a few words before so I intend to chat with him while he’s still talkative
I talked to Sorud for a while about this and that and mostly about Ollie. I told him about Ollie’s history and how I became his owner. He was a bit unhappy when he heard how I treated Ollie before but I assured him that all that was in the past. I was also quite interested with the story he was telling me about the legendary race of horses that once lived here in Vermillion. The mighty “Warhords” which fought the ants thousands of years ago, he said that Ollie might have been a descendant of theirs. I was about to ask more but the Elder seemed to have returned so we stopped talking for now.
“Nnnn…..Riyen come here and take the rest of the rewards that I promised you.” I nearly forgot about the extra rewards but then again En-Il’s Hoe is more than a reward for me
Items Obtained!
Sealed stone chest!
Boots of the Warhords!
Stone Glyph!
“Boots of the Warhords?” Sorud was just talking about this legendary race a minute ago. Is this a coincidence?
“Nnnn…The legendary race of Warhords…..In the past they roam throughout Vermillion fighting the Calamity ants. Sadly they are now long gone….those boots was used by the last Hord-ahn and was entrusted to me. They are now yours Riyen, may they serve you well”
“Elder thank you again for all these” Boots made by a legendary race, this definitely is a jackpot item as well. It still isn’t identified so
“Identify! Boots of the Warhords!”
Hord-ahn’s Boots of Rampaging Gales (Unique)
+180 Agility
+30% Movement Speed
-30% Stamina used when walking or running
Durability: 120/120
Requirements: Level 500. Agility 700 or more
Special Options: No terrain penalties when moving. Once every 60 seconds Burst can be activated
Burst: A skill to temporarily increase speed by 1000%. Damage shall be applied if you hit anything while the skill is active
The boots worn by the last Hord-ahn over a thousand years ago and was entrusted to the Elder. The Warhords race is now thought to be extinct but it is said that they were the masters of the open plains. Each Warhord will only have one pair of boots for their entire lifetime and will only part with them at the moment of their deaths. The souls of Warhords are said to dwell within their boots as such, great power can be felt by anyone who wears them.
I already expected that it was a unique item but its info was incredible! The only problem was the requirements because I doubt I’ll be able to wear them anytime soon
“Identify! Sealed stone chest!”
failed
“……………Identify Stone Glyph!”
failed
“Um…..Elder…..is there some special way of identifying these 2 objects? Like say….throwing it in a raging fire or something?” I didn’t bother identifying them again since it was clear that they’re special items so asking the Elder about it should be the obvious move to make
“Nnnn…..that I do not know Riyen, I was told that the bearer of the legacy will know what to do with them so us Elders just kept them safe”
“I see…..I guess I’ll just figure it out later” I stored them in my inventory since there’s nothing I can do about the Sealed stone chest and the glyph
“Nnnn…by the way….what is that thing floating around you? It has been there for quite a while now”
A crap, I totally forgot about Midz. Now that the Elder mentioned it, I turned to look at the fairy and I can tell even though it has a face or a bug that it isn’t happy that it was ignored for such a long time. It also seems that Sorud and the villagers have been meaning to ask about the weird bug flying beside me.
“Ah……sorry that I forgot about you Midz, Elder this is Midz a self proclaimed fairy”
“I TOLD YOU IT’S NOT SELF PROCLAIMED! I’M A REAL FAIRY!” Midz suddenly shouted right beside my ear which made me wince quite a bit. I was about to squash the little bug when the Elder interrupted me
“Nnnn! A fairy! Is that true? I have heard that fairies roamed in Vermillion once before but nearly all have disappeared. The few remaining are very elusive that even I have never seen one in all the years that I have lived” It seems that the Elder and the villagers are in awe with the little bug
“Huhuhuhuhu, see that! That’s how you should react when you see a great fairy like me!” the little bug seems to have forgotten what he just did and is now haughtily flying around me. Of course I still remember what he did so…
*Smack!* with my left hand, I smacked him so hard that he nearly hit the ground. His Hp also went down by 20% and he ended up crying again
“*Waaah*Wahh* that hurts…..*Wahhh*Wahhh*
“Nnnn! What are you doing Riyen! To do such a thing to a precious fairy! There, there, come now little one stop crying” The Elder admonishes me for what I did and quickly comforted the crying bug
“Come on Elder, that cheeky bug shouted right next to my ear”
“Haaaa….I understand that he did something…..playful…..but you should still not have hit him so hard hyumen” even Sorud is taking the side of the little bug….
After a while, Midz finally stopped crying and was now staying near the Elder. Lep-ahn also has arrived along with all the Leoparn clan behind him. They were the last to arrive probably because they’re the guards of the village. The other villagers came little by little until everyone was present.
“Nnnn…..now that everyone is, I shall tell the ancient story passed down to all of us…….
Long, long ago when this continent is filled with nothing but wild Beasts, the Great God arrived and offered us a gift
Every Beast was given a choice. To acquire the ability to “Think and Reason” or to continue to stay as they are and live as wild beasts on the land
Many were confused since this was the first time anyone “talked” to them
A lot of the beasts clearly refused the Great God’s offer while others remained undecided
Time passed but the offer of the Great God never vanished
More time have passed when one race decided to accept the gift that the Great God offered
This race was the first to become what we are now……Beast People
With the gifts that they received, their race thrived and became the strongest in the continent
Seeing such a change, others soon followed and accepted the gifts of the Great God
The Great God was pleased that many accepted. The Great God knew that conflict was inevitable as well so the Great God placed several rules for them
These are, one cannot feed on others that received the Gifts, They are forbidden to drive any species to extinction, and they are forbidden to enslave other creatures.
These three rules ensured the prosperity of the continent and every Beast People worshipped the Great God
The Great God also asked everyone to love and care every life on this world. This was never an order because the Great God believed that this should be done by their own will
Years passed and great civilizations have risen and fallen on the continent. Wars between races have been waged countless times but because of the rules, none have completely disappeared from the world
The Great God watched how the Beast People decided to live their lives never interfering with their affairs.
The Great God knew that this was the natural course for those who obtained the gifts that he offered.
The Great God also knew that this will help them advance and better themselves for the future, and that these wars will someday stop and true peace shall be attained
The Great God took several creatures and made them the “Guardians” of the continent
The Great God would have watched over them for all eternity if only that “threat” never happened
The Great God was the first to notice the disturbance as such he was the first to act as well
The Great God bid farewell to the beloved Beast People and an uncountable number cried and pleaded that the Great God reconsider
With a lonely smile, the Great God left entrusting the continent to us Beast People and us Beast People to the chosen “Guardians”
The Great God also left behind three treasures for us to take care of. They were enshrined at the Sacred Mountain that the Great God first descended from
“Nnnn…..this was the story told to us for as long as we can remember….Apart from these are the three great Visions of the Greatest Prophet that have ever lived….if only our ancestors heeded the warnings of the Prophet….maybe things would not have turned out like this”
The Elder also told us the three great visions that appeared. First was about the Great God entering a very deep sleep because of the fight that happened. The second was the disappearance of the three treasures. And the third was the first appearance of the Calamity Ants. The Elder also told us that before the treasures vanished, they saw that the treasures lost nearly all their powers and turned very black. The Prophet claimed that the treasures are safe and that this was one of their ability designed to protect them. He also claimed that they will appear to their rightful owners and that the “Ants” were the biggest threat to every life on the continent. Of course the leaders at the time refused to ally themselves with one another because of the constant wars with each other. This was the cause of the downfall of the Beast People. The ants came and ate nearly everything on the continent killing uncountable species to extinction
“That was quite the story Elder. Maybe if the leaders of those powerful races decided to join together, they might have resisted the ants’ invasion. Did you ever find out where these ants came from?” I wanted to ask this question since I thought the ants were native to this place as well
“Nnnn…..all we know is that they suddenly came from deep underground. The Prophet spent all his remaining years trying to figure out what these ants are and all he that knowledge was passed down to us Elders”
According to the Elder, the Prophet found out that these ants also worship a “God” what kind it was, was never known. The Prophet was also the one to find the “Guardian Crystals” which were the remains of the “Guardians” that fought till death against the ants. The lands that the “Guardians” died on became sacred places where the ants couldn’t approach and “crystals” formed after years and years have passed. This continents name was also changed because of these ants. It was named after the most powerful ants that came last which nearly killed all life. The Vermillion Ants, their bright red color turned even brighter with every creature they devoured.
“Nnnn….that is the history of this continent Riyen. Even though we call ourselves “Enilians”, the name of our Great God was still forgotten. For letting us remember that glorious name, we are thankful”
“We are thankful” this was said by all the villagers present, which gave me an itchy feeling inside
“Elder please don’t bow your head like that….I don’t think I did such a great thing at all….” To be honest, I really didn’t feel like I did a great thing since all I ever wanted was to quickly finish the quest
“Nnnn…..you have spoken like a true hero….Riyen now I would like to entrust you with another request”
“Hmm? What is it Elder?” I guess this was a chained quest after all. I didn’t mind but I do wish this won’t take too much time
“Nnnn….I as an Elder would request you to find worshippers so that the Great God En-Il could recover his lost divine powers”
*Ding!!!*
World Quest has been activated!
Quest: Find worshippers for the Great God En-Il
The Elder has given you the task to find enough people to worship the Great God En-Il so that the lost powers of this Great God might return!
Worshippers: 429/2,000,000,000
Requirements: Must possess one of En-Il’s legacies
Rewards: Unknown
Failure: You will not be penalized for failing this quest and there is no time limit
Do wish to accept? (Yes/No)
Auto accepted, Cannot be refused
“Huh? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…….9 Zeroes?” The fact that it auto accepted didn’t bother me anymore. I was too busy counting the number of zeroes again and again, unfortunately it never decreased
“Haaaaaaa……there goes my wish that the quest won’t take too much time to complete. Elder I don’t know when I’ll be able to gather 2 billion worshipers but I’ll at least try my best….” Trying my best was practically the only thing I can do anyway
“Nnnn…I know that you will try your best Riyen. Now then perhaps we should hold a feast to celebrate your success”
“Ah…if that’s the case then please let me help cook. I also brought back a decent amount of meat to share with everyone”
This was one of the reasons why I decided to bring back a bunch of food from Versailles. It’s quite natural to want to celebrate after finishing such a harsh quest. The other reason was to fulfil my previous promise to hold another feast. The reason is kinda different but I didn’t let it bother me. I showed everyone my prowess at grilling meat which to my delight gained everyone’s approval. The feast lasted late into the night and once we’ve eaten all the food, everyone decided to retire for the night. I had to grab hold of the bug fairy since he didn’t want to leave the Elder and head back to my cabin with the loyal Ollie closely following behind.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“Whew…..Midz I’ll take a short break and since you don’t disappear, I’ll have you look after Ollie for a bit” after doing all the necessary things like putting water on the bucket near Ollie and other such things, I logged off from the game
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I logged-in before daybreak on Royal Road and found Midz snoring beside me. I was in a good mood so I didn’t squash him. I did drop him on cold water to wake him up which made him give a funny scream. I prepare Ollie to head out and put a saddle on his back. Once we’re outside, I got on Ollie’s back and started a light jog towards the piece of land where I decided to start trying to plant something.
“Wow~ what a lively place you got” the fairy Midz said this right beside me
“Haaaaa….cut the sarcasm Midz otherwise I might squash you…again…..Also with En-Il’s Hoe of Midnight Blessing, this place won’t stay like this for long. And since you’re here, I want to hear about the new skills again”
“Fine….whatever you say Mr. Farmer….so what do you wanna hear about?”
“About the Divine Skills that I got. Explain to me every detail that you know about them and that stat that I got. The Power of Life what exactly is it” I’m still a bit confused about how to properly utilize the skills since they require this Power of Life
“Like I told you before, Divine Time and Nature’s Blessing both have different effects depending on what type of Legacy you possess. According to the records left to us fairies, The Midnight Farmer’s skills are all meant to make the land better and healthier.
“Eyes of En-Il” is a skill shared by all the possessors which allows them to see life energy on all things.
The last one is something I’m not entirely sure of since there has been no record of anyone having that skill before.
Now, all Divine Skills of every possessor needs Power of Life. Each Possessor has a different way of collecting them and as a Farmer you’ll need to plant and grow life to obtain Power of Life.
The other skills with special symbols will mean that they have better effects though you can only confirm those effects by actually using the skill”
Midz already told me this before at Versailles when I promised to change his name. We found out though that changing his name can’t be done for some reason so he sulked and gave me the silent treatment.
“……….Divine Time can only be activated at midnight and Nature’s Blessing can only be activated if Divine Time is active……haaaaaaa.....what good is it to increase 1 minute to 1 hour exactly? The other two doesn’t have any limits on them and En-Il’s Knowledge sounds promising but getting Power of Life is still the issue. Anyways Midz “Heart’s Understanding” allows me to somehow communicate with others right?”
“Right! That’s the Great God En-Il’s most precious skill! It helped him to communicate even with wild beasts. That’s also the skill he used to talk with the ancient Beast People!”
“I see….so that’s why it felt like I could understand Ollie a little better now. Also why do you call En-Il a “He”? From what I remember En-Il’s features is pretty hard to discern”
“Silly human, it's all about one’s perspective. Unlike other Gods that have a definite form En-Il obtained the title as a Great God so his actual form cannot be perceived by any mortal. As such, the form you’ll see will be what you’re most comfortable with! Well that’s what the Fairy Queen said anyways”
“Perspective huh…..well enough about that. It’s time to start farming! Ollie just stay here for now” this was the main reason why I’m here after all
“HAAAAAAAAAA!”
I chose a suitable place to start then take out and equip En-Il’s Hoe and with a great shout I start to plow the land
“Hmmmm?” with just one swing I manage to bury the hoe deep enough which should have taken a couple of swings. The color of the soil also changed from the dry ash to a rich dark color
“This……mwahhahahahahahahha! All my suffering was for this moment! Wahahhahahahah” even the ground at 2 feet away from the place I hit with En-Il’s Hoe started to change to a rich color
“……..I don’t think he’s right in the head anymore…….”
*Bruhuhuhu*
I didn’t even care what the fairy-bug said and just continued to pound away at the ground. I plowed the land like a madman starting from 6 in the morning till 3 in the afternoon stopping only to eat and regain stamina. I worked for nearly 9 hours and was rewarded with 80 square feet of rich soil to plant in. The exhaustion I’m feeling can’t even be described anymore but looking at the land is enough to make me smile with satisfaction. Ollie and Midz backed away quite a bit seeing me work like someone possessed but again I didn’t worry about little things like that. Now that the land is prepared, I can now start the all important planting of seeds.
“Fuuuuuuuuu……Heheheheheh…..time to start planting…..the Elder said that I need to put 5 Hariya beans together and bury them deep enough with 3-4 feet of space between each area I planted on. It sucks that I only have this crappy beans….if only I could buy better ones………”
*Bang!*Bang!*Bang!*
*Uwahh! Look Ollie! Your master started bashing himself! Are you sure he’s still right in the head? That’s not something you should do to yourself.”
*Bruhuhuuhu*
I could have bought better ones….at Versailles! It’s just that buying seeds didn’t even enter my mind because of how harsh my circumstances were before. And after obtaining En-Il’s Hoe, I was too happy and all I could think about was celebrating with everyone. Realizing this made me start hitting my head several times.
“Haaaaaaaaaaaa…aw.aw……what’s done is done….I’ll just call the birdbrain Rak-ahn and have him fly me back to Versailles again. Using these crappy beans should be a decent experience anyway”
As per the Elder’s instructions, I buried 5 Hariya bean seeds every 4 feet in the soil. I then head to the river to fetch water which was somehow safer now since I levelled stalking quite a bit. The only good thing about these beans was that you only need to water them once a day since they require very little water and can grow almost anywhere. Other than that, the beans are filled with demerits. Eating it was like biting Styrofoam and once you’ve bitten it, a tasteless jellylike substance comes out of it. The worst part is that no matter what seasonings you use, it doesn’t gain any taste. The sun was starting to set by the time I finished so I had to return to my cabin along with Ollie and Midz.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was already morning on R.R when I managed to log back in. I was eager to check the land where I planted the beans so I rushed out. To my dismay, I saw holes on the now fertile soil. This could only mean one thing, Needle Haired Mole Rats. I quickly dug a place where I planted the beans and it was exactly what I expected, the beans were eaten by the damned mole rats.
“Shit! Goddamn it! There weren’t any signs yesterday so I relaxed my guard….haaaaaaa…..and I’m all out of White Powder as well”
“Hmm? So what happened farmer? The seeds you’ve planted are gone?” Midz says this and lands near the hole where I planted the beans and inspected it
“Haaaaaaaaa………See those small holes all over the place? They’re caused by shitty mole rats and they ate all the beans that I planted yesterday”
“Mole rats huh….so what do you plan to do now? Since there are a lot of holes, does that mean there are a lot of mole rats?” Midz then flies to check several holes trying to see how deep they are
“Heheheheh…..yeah there are a lot but I intend to catch every single one of them. I’ve raised my trapping skill so this should be doable even without using White Powder. I’ll be heading back to the village with Ollie, you can do whatever you want Midz”
After saying this, I climbed on Ollie’s back and headed for the village. Midz decided to follow and landed on Ollie’s head. What I needed from the village were several large clay jars so I had to ask around. Obtaining the jars ended up being easy since my intimacy with the villagers is already at max. I managed to get 6 large Clay jars so I then headed to the village blacksmith Tusk. Asking a favour from Tusk was also pretty easy. I asked him to tightly seal the jar’s cover and for him to put a small hole at the top. For an Elipan, Tusk is pretty nimble with his hands so he did it without any trouble. Lastly, I headed for the Elder to ask her for some Plae Leaves. After getting all that I needed, I headed back again to where the mole rats are.
“Hehehehehe….now then for some finishing touches, Midz grab that cloth and start spreading this paste near the base inside the jars”
“Ehhh….I don’t wanna. That stuff looks gross”
“That can’t be helped. This is crushed Plae leaves mixed with water. This stuff can make anything slippery for several days. If you don’t want to do this then that means you don’t want to eat as well huh?”
“Uuuuu…..nasty farmer…fine I just need to put some near the top right?”
“Yep, that’s right. I always knew you were a good little fairy. Make sure to put some near the hole as well”
A few threats and rewards have always been useful to make someone work; you just need to know which one will make them work better. I could have spread the paste before the jars were sealed but I want Midz to learn to work for his own food. After checking on the little fairy one last time, I proceeded to dig 6 holes on the soil. Since I already plowed this land before, digging the holes was fairly easy. Midz was still only at the third jar by the time I finished digging the last hole. Since it seems it’ll take him a bit more time to finish, I decided to start cooking some of the dried meat that I got. The smell of the cooking meat made the little fairy move faster than before and finished just before I finished cooking
“Heh~ so you can do it if you put your mind to it. Good work Midz, go ahead and eat”
“Ha…ha….ha….ha…..that….was….hard.........I nearly fell on that gross stuff”
While Midz was wolfing down the food, I also prepared Ollie’s meal which was nothing but Hariya beans. This couldn’t be helped because Ollie doesn’t eat meat. I also ate quickly since I saw Midz looking at my portion of the food. Right after eating, I carried the jars and buried them. I made sure not to cover the small holes at the top of the jar. I then drop about 2 dozen beans on each jar and left the place. There was nothing left to do but wait so I did some maintenance on the cabin and went around the village until nightfall and then went back to my cabin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was morning once more so I head out with Ollie and Midz this time to check the jars that I buried yesterday. I just took a peek at the hole in one of the jars and saw a whole bunch of mole rats were inside. I checked the other jars and saw the exact same thing.
“Heheheheheh……I caught a lot…..now I just need to decide how to kill them off. Completely closing the hole and suffocating the little suckers or filling the jars with water and drowning them. I made these designs with those intentions from the start so maybe I’ll just do both with 3 jars each hehehehehhe”
“Creepy……what a creepy farmer. Why would you need to kill them when you can just ask them not to eat the seeds that you’ll plant?”
“Huh? Ask these mole rats? I’m pretty sure these things can’t talk and I actually prefer killing them” with all the things these mole rats did, I really just want to kill them
“………..You do realize that as a servant of the Great God you’re obligated to love and not despise all life. And don’t forget you have that skill so communicating with them should be possible. Also if you do kill those more will just come right? So isn’t it better to ask them to guard the place instead?”
“……..ask them to guard….Midz do you think that’s possible?”
“Dunno, but you should at least try”
“Hmmmm….” For once Midz gave me a decent idea. It is true that more will just come even if I kill all these mole rats now so if I succeed then they can fight off other mole rats that might appear
“Fine, it won’t hurt to try. I’ll just kill them if it doesn’t work out”
Trying to communicate with them is good and all but I can’t do that if they’re inside the jar and they’ll just run away or attack if I let them out. In the end I decided to dismantle the small Tool Shed to make a cage for the mole rats. There was almost nothing left inside so it wasn’t a big deal. I couldn’t make an actual cage since I didn’t know how to build one in the first place so I ended up with something that looks like a cart.
*Ding!*
You have learned the Carpentry Skill!
“Oh? I guess even if it looks lousy, it still qualifies as something I successfully did huh. Now I just need to put some Plae leaves paste to stop those 6 inch mole rats from climbing out”
“Hey creepy farmer, do you think this is enough to stop them from escaping?”
“Who knows…also little bug if you call me creepy again…I’ll use En-Il’s hoe to squash you” and with that, Midz didn’t say anything anymore and just followed me around
I then took the jars and started pouring the mole rats in the cart. After the last jar, I was a bit amazed that I managed to catch 78 Needle Haired Mole Rats. Their hairs started to harden when they saw me and tried to escape.
“Well…..here goes…….Heart’s Understanding!” All at once the mole rats stopped running around and looked at me.
Heart’s Understanding has been used on Needle Haired Mole Rats!
“Hoh~ that’s impressive. Now then, I want you little mole rats to stop eating the seeds that I plant”
*STARE*
“Uhhh…I want you to guard them?”
*STARE*
“Hmmmm…..this isn’t working….what do you think Midz? I think they’re listening but I don’t think they're willing to do what I say….”
“Why not try saying that you’ll give them food or something if they guard the place”
“Haaaaaa…I do have a lot of Hariya beans left….I guess it can’t be helped……..Mole Rats! If you guard the fields then I’ll feed you with beans so there’s no need to eat the ones that I planted”
*TiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiTH*
“Looks like you succeeded creepy farmer” *Smack* “Aw! Why hit me…..uuuuuuuu”
“I said not to call me creepy…Hmmm? Hey they’re changing colors” I notice that the mole rats’ colors were changing little by little
“……..that means they accepted the Great God’s influence…..uuuuuuu, my head still hurts”
In the end, the mole rats changed colors from grey to brown. I let them out to test what they’ll do but instead of running away, they just stayed in place. I was wondering what to do until the mole rats sent me images of food mostly Hariya beans. It seems they’re hungry since they’ve been trapped with nothing to eat. I gave them 1bean each and told them to guard around the place where I’ll be planting. I had to fix the soil first and then restart setting Hariya bean seeds. I just hope the mole rats won’t eat them this time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was quite relieved to see that the Hariya bean seeds that I planted haven’t been eaten when I checked on them the next day. The mole rats have also started appearing just as I approach the field wanting food. It seems I’ll need to feed them daily but so long as they keep guarding then it’s fine.
After 3 days the seeds have already started sprouting. Ollie was also pretty eager to help so I carefully strapped two pieces of wood on his back so that it could be used to carry buckets of water.
After two weeks the beans have already grown 4 feet in height! There were 5 beanstalks wrapping each other that helps support each other to stand upright. Even the Elder was surprised at how fast they grew
After 3 weeks the beans grew another 2 feet and pods started to appear. By this time, I also prepared 3 other fields that are 50 square feet each. I haven’t planted anything on them since I needed to know if I made any mistakes on growing my first set of crops.
After 4 weeks the Elder came and told me that they can already be harvested. The pods grew to 15 inches with a width of about 4.5 inch. The beanstalks themselves grew another 2 feet in length and have now filled the entire place. It would take a long time to get all the pods since there were dozens of them on each stalk alone so I asked some of the villagers to help harvest them.
“To think they’ll grow this big......” I decided to cut a single pod from the nearest beanstalk when suddenly…..
You have gained 1274 Power of Life
“Ah! Finally! I finally obtained Power of Life and a lot of it as well!” I was a bit worried before since even though the plants have already sprouted, I still haven’t obtained any Power of Life.
“Oh~ I guess you’re no longer a creepy farmer but a successful creepy farmer hahahhaha”
I wasn’t even annoyed with what the little bug said. I was far too happy and somehow a great feeling of accomplishment was spreading in my body. It couldn’t even be compared to when I beat the goblins before or even when I got the precious En-Il’s Hoe.
“Nnnn….it seems you are quite happy Riyen but it is still too soon. Why not try eating some of the beans from that pod in your hands” the Elder suddenly gave a very disgusting idea
“Elder I didn’t think these nasty beans could be eaten raw……” I was very reluctant mainly because of how bad these beans are
“Nnnnahahahah……Riyen of course they can be eaten raw in fact they are better when fresh….I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised”
Since I didn’t want to argue with the Elder, I just opened the pod and saw an incredible amount of beans inside. They’re color was a vibrant green compared to the pale green Hariya beans that I ate before. They also have a very fresh and nice smell so I resolved myself to put one in my mouth. After biting into it, I was amazed that the beans outer layer is now somewhat crispy while the inside got a creamy texture like mashed potatoes. The tastes was the biggest shock, it was a little sweet and nutty which was totally different from the ones we’ve been eating all this time.
“How the heck can the taste be this good?! It’s like a totally different plant!” I then handed the rest to the Elder so she could get a taste
“Nnnnn…..you see…this was what it originally tastes like. The Hariya plants just loses all its flavour so that it can survive in the harshest conditions but it instantly regains its flavor when the land is fertile once more”
The Elder then told me a lot more about this precious food source. Nearly everything about them could be eaten from the pods to even the beanstalks have a nice taste. It was noon when we finally finished harvesting the field. There were about 30 helpers but it still took several hours to finish because of the sheer amount of pods on each beanstalk. I was about to share the harvest with everyone when Sorud appeared out of nowhere and said “*Tsk*Tsk* what do you think you are doing hyumen? Rather than give them away, you should trade them with others instead” I didn’t mind giving them away but it seems Sorud wouldn’t accept that so I left it to him how to trade the harvested Hariya bean pods.
We then boiled the pods in a large pot so that a lot could get a taste of the harvest. Everyone was actually happier eating the beans than when they were eating meat. Midz was also happily eating the beans even though he avoided them like the plague before. Even Ollie seemed happier eating the tasty beans along with the pods. We cooked a lot but I still ended up having 10 sacks of beans left. This was after Sorud already traded more than 10 sacks worth of beans for lots of different goods, Sorud offered to temporarily store them on a separate tent near the Elder’s tent since I couldn’t keep them on my small cabin.

It was already late in the night but I didn’t log-off to take a break and wait for daybreak. I was now patiently waiting for midnight so that I could finally try and use my Divine Skills. Midz was already fast asleep and snoring quite loudly while Ollie was dozing off. I headed out to the fields at 11:50pm; I didn’t bother waking Midz or taking Ollie since night time was quite dangerous.
“Fuuuuuuuu….this place is sure cold at night………..11:58pm…..a little more and I can test my Divine Skills” I don’t see any monsters around since I’m still within the range of the guardian crystal but somehow I couldn’t relax even with that thought

Ever since this moment midnight has become my favorite time of the day and I continued working the land and planting for the next month and a half in RL. I even skipped school several times just so I could focus more on playing Royal Road. My one month of hellish hardships finally was replaced with satisfying work every day. Unfortunately a new adventure will await me accompanied by a Black haired hungry beast that would threaten to eat my entire harvest.
To be continued……..
