(Vol 1) 7 - To Declare Perspective (MD)

The system was Syl’s interpretation of the world, influenced by others and herself. If something wasn’t well defined it might create circumstances later that could lead to serious problems. Like her avatar being labeled a demon because she might be supernatural.

‘Would a goddess be supernatural or super natural? Eh… whatever ’

She needed to do her best to define the system so it can’t hurt people later. She wanted the system to be a useful tool not a brick wall in the road. It was time to update the system based on what she knew. So she decided to try a new approach, declare a few things.

“System update my status to add divine focus System.”

Status updated

“System is there any other person that can use magic?”

No other person can use magic, it requires a connection to the void.

She thought about it for a moment and a profound insight dawned on her. Syl left the basement and floated out into the space of the void. She imagined a light where it might make sense if her basement was part of a house and there was a sky above that house.

A large silver light appeared in the “Sky” and she could no longer consider her black space a void. That was before light, before something gave the space form. Now it was a seemingly endless swirling mass of smoke, swirling all around her as far as the light could penetrate in every direction. It was hers and she was it.

‘I am the smoke.’

Everything here was part of the smokey mist, part of her. She considered her body on Werthe. A body asleep in a bed, it could barely contain the smoke… her. She didn’t need sleep here but there she did, here she didn’t have limits but maybe there she did? Her limitations as a mist were trivial and hard to define beyond vague numbers, though her body seemed more defined.

“System stop assigning numeric values to me here, use my avatar and any future avatars as they exist in the mortal world.”

Priorities updated

She didn’t want to assume, she wanted to be sure so this needed to be said a certain way.

“System is it reasonable to say my realm is made of magic?”

The void is the realm of magic

‘I am magic, people might be able to use magic if I can connect them to my realm er… me?’

“System add divine focus magic.”

System has been added Magic to your divine focus

She looked around and wondered if it was possible for someone to come to her realm. On the premise that she might not always be here alone, she added a varied terrain of solid ground. The ground was barren but a person could now stand on solid mist that looked a lot like rock. She decided to throw some mountains around to give it a more interesting look and was soon standing in a valley. Her green door was near one of the rock walls of the valley so she extended the rock outwards towards the door. Enjoying creative mode she made the rock into a simple stone building. The green door was now inside a small structure and seemed more connected. Then on a whim she made the silverlight look more like a moon. Besides the place being lifeless it was starting to look more interesting.

‘Cool’

“System can I create trees and life to add to my realm?”

No

Her realm was the realm of magic, and she decided to be clever. Names could give a place power.

“System update the name of the void to the Realm of Magic and this part of it as Mistvale”

Status updated

She considered the avatar situation again. Maybe not being able to create life here was part of the reason she couldn’t make another avatar? Though, if avatars went to sleep every time she wasn’t in the body would be frustrating. Maybe magic can’t create life from nothing?

If that was true, then how did she manage a body at all?

‘Ugh’

If she couldn’t create another body right now, she might be able to pilot a different body or a dead body? Syl decided it was a mystery for another day and she would have to test that later. There was one thing that she needed to change about her body on Werthe now, the demon tag. The label came from a lack of knowledge so she could provide a new perspective. Anything to feel less weird when she was there.

“System update my avatars race to mist elf.”

Status updated

She laughed. Now her avatar was a mist elf from Mistvale. It wasn’t a lie and she could pass off any inquiry in the future. Calling her avatar a denizen of Mistvale would be fun. She needed to do a lot of testing.

“System can I bring living things to my realm?”

Yes

Syl wondered how that might work. It was one thing to say that a person could go to the moon and another to figure out how they get there. Mistvale was separate but also connected to Werthe. Before she accidentally murdered someone she needed a test subject, probably a certain mist elf.

“Okay, first test.”

Syl held out a hand.

‘Identify’

Syl (Magic) (Goddess: Magic, System, Games)

‘That works, much better and no skill update for identify. It feels like the system is giving me space. ’

You have earned the title

You understand some of the mysteries of the world and get how things work. You might not be completely helpless.

‘Ugh’

“System remove all of my excessive titles.”

No

Syl walked back to the basement and discovered a few things. The computer on the desk turned on when she hit the power button. It even had the sounds of a real computer booting up as internal fans whirled and an operating system loaded. Once on, the computers desktop had access to a library of games, a visual version of the system, and an email app.

She started to load a game and stopped. Her avatars character sheet was a mess. Now at least statistically it was untangled from her greater existence and she could define her avatar better. The world had survived since creation without the system so she needed to decide how it worked and what it added.

Syl considered the implications and principles of using the system. The system was an extension of her magic and a tool. Using the system connected a person to magic and that connection changed the user. Leveling expressed a users experience wielding her magic and a growing change within the user. The system would slowly change people with her magic and would likely create new magical beings and races in the world. There might end up beings could only survive in her realm too entangled with magic to survive more than a short time on Werthe.

Giving the system to non magical beings might kill them. She wasn’t sure yet, but something told her that using magic was a burden on the body. Thinking about the long term usage of “identify” Syl decided to add a ranking scale to help identify statistics at a glance. Rank F would be considered the worst of the new tiers and it capped at rank SSS. A few hours later she had a new and improved system and was happy with the results. She decided to look at the new and improved version of her avatar’s character sheet.

Accepting the system brought with it the total magic that a person could endure without killing them and that magic would express itself as a level one class. Syl the mist elf would need to level like anyone else to gain power.

“System create a visual and modifiable user interface for my avatar.”
