(Vol 1) 3 - Character Creation (MD)

Her uncle always said if you were learning a new game the easiest way to start was to make a character, and this book had so many options. Since it was her first character she decided to just pick something cool and test things out. There might be serious consequences doing this but she decided the the probability of a world ending event was probably pretty low.

Hopefully.

‘System create new character, Elf Female age 22 with my approximate characteristics’

Creating new character, character created

Skill Create Character added

Sylvie was now holding in her hand a figure of an elf.

Elf Female age 22 (Sylvie’s Character)

She went reached over to the figure of Theo on the map and touched it. He was ranting by the sound of it. “-and how would that even work. They still have legs, so why do they sit like that when the bird could just use its legs?” ‘He really was lonely.’ She used her other hand to place her new elf figure about fifteen meters away from Theo and her consciousness immediately shifted to her new body.

The air smelled fresh as she drew in a deep breath. “Huh, that was easier than I thought it would be” She said, looking at her hands. The field looked so much bigger to her from the ground and now the village seemed far away. “The village is pretty far. Can I pet one of your sheep? I’ve never seen one in person before. Do they bite?”

Theo stood there slack jawed staring at her. He striped off his tunic and ran over to her wrapping her up with it as he picked her up. “No wonder you wouldn’t come out!” He said, “You’re totally naked!”

‘Oh… didn’t really consider equipment’ She was wearing the tunic like it was a dress in record time and he put her back down on the ground. When she was still a human on earth being naked in front of a total stranger would have been bad, though she had kind of died, now lived in some kind of void. Weird enough she could still feel herself there and could go back anytime. That part of her was wasn’t naked so it didn’t matter did it.

You have earned the title “I have too many bodies, Existential Crisis”

Are you naked if one of your bodies of which you have many is naked when other bodies are perfectly clothed? Would an ungloved hand count as being naked when it rests at the end of a clothed arm? If one of your bodies dies did you die? But what about cellular biology, cells in the body die all the time… if a the part of your mind that writes titles quit and another part of my mind takes over.. did I really quit?

‘You out did yourself title mind, bravo!’

“You are very young, did you run away from home?” Theo said with concern.

“I’m twenty-two! Well pretty sure, give me a break old man.”

He tilted his head like a dog and put his hand on his chin. “I would believe maybe ten or so. You shouldn’t lie to grown ups. Though I’ve never met an elf before, so I’m willing to give you the benefit of doubt until your parents show up.”

“Thats absurd! …oh hold on, I did make an elf.” She noticed the look he made when she said that last bit. ‘Probably need to talk more like a mortal if I don’t want to get burned at the stake or something later’

Skill Talk Like a Mortal has been added

‘Ugh’

“We do age slower than your kind… good sir” Sylvie said with her best imitation of an elf.

*ding* Skill Talk Like a Mortal is now level 2 and has gained a total of 1 point

‘Ugh’

“I did hear that elves can live long lives. Did you at least tell your parents you were leaving home?” Theo said.

“I don’t have parents!” The shocked look on his face was quickly replaced by a sadder one though Sylvie didn’t notice it as she attempted to cover up her not mortal sounding blunder. “Oh wait, no, I totally have parents! I am just on a trip visiting the countryside.” Sylvie really wished she had spent some time reading the “The Werthe Campaign Setting” now. ‘Where did elves even live around here.’

You have earned the title “Young Elven Trickster”

As a very young elvish child you tormented people by playing tricks and confusing them. When you grow up many years from now people will remember you as a kid that tricked others.

’You are brutal title mind’

“I see,” Theo said not sounding convinced, “you really aren’t here with your parents?”

“Nope.”

“Have a place to stay?”

She felt like a puppy in a free puppy box on the side of the road. On a whim she shifted her mental focus back to her void since she wasn’t sure how to steer the conversation. Going back was really easy. Her figure was still there on the table next to the figure of Theo. It was an awkward view they covered up a disproportionate area on the continent.

‘Could be better’

It was a paper map so it was always going to be just a world map.

‘Wait…’ She realized there was no way it was actually a paper map. Sylvie reached over and zoomed the map with her fingers like it was an iPad, and it worked! A much clearer picture of the area came into focus. The town was called “Ril” and it was part of the “Kingdom of Yore”. Elves were to the south in a place called “Traevane” and it was really far on the other side of a large forest. She found it interesting that she knew Traevane was an elven kingdom and that Yore was predominantly a human area. It might have been better to have her new character start in Traevane so she considered moving the piece.

‘Actually... why were these people speaking English!’

“System, have I been speaking English with Theo?”

Yes

She considered that, maybe part of her knew why an earth language was being used on another world. “System do I know why English is the spoken language where I am right now on Werthe?”

No

You have earned the title “Talks to Herself”

You ask yourself questions all the time and expect answers! You should make friends.

“You be nice!”

No

‘Ugh’

“This whole thing with Theo is kind of embarrassing, I’m going to move.” She picked up her piece and moved it to the woods near Traevane and it slowly slid back to where it was before next to Theo. ‘Hmm’ She picked it up again and moved it back by Traevane and it slid back again. If anything it seemed to be moving across the field where she had left it.

“Oh great and wonderful system, why is my piece not moving to the woods by Traevane?”

That would be breaking the rules, you said “No one likes cheaters.”

‘So I can’t cheat.’

“Hehe…”

You may, though the “Spark of Life” required to create a new character is too low for another humanoid. You would be limited to simpler life forms.
