"I'm so proud of my brother." Amalech thought warmly as she flew through the skies, enjoying the feeling on her face. Feeling energized by the sun rays with each passing second. She been worried about her brother and his self-esteem for quite awhile. Ever since they been born into the universe, he seemed to have problems with gaining recognition and respect. Last thing everyone needs is a Angry, bitter God. "That Miriam's job." Amalech thought to herself, struggling not to laugh at her own barb at the Goddess of Marriage and Family. Although the reason she so bitter can also be blamed on Shangor being a terrible cheater.
"They really need to split up." Amalech thought to herself as she shifted her thoughts to her brother again. Kai was a sweet , caring soul, despite his outward appearance of a man that look like he will strike you if you even look at him the wrong way.
He saved that girl and he finally realized that being a God isn't about having popularity and respect, it about what you do for the people you care about and the people who are in need. At least that what her definition of being a God is. As The Goddess of the Sun, a large number of humans looked up to her and even worship her. It was kind of scary to the Goddess, if she was to be honest with herself. She stopped for a moment, the cool winds giving her a pleasant feeling as she floated in the air above the land.
"I don't deserve worship , i was just doing what right. It what any God would do." Amalech thought but she soon felt ridiculous afterwards. Considering the rest of the Gods and their various antics that harmed thousands if not millions of lives. Like Shangor impregnating the first woman he see and the poor woman getting gutted by Miraiam shortly afterwards. Krania and her various wars that destroyed the lands. Or that time when Aphros the Goddess of Love at the time, Androcien The Goddess of Knowledge and Satrina , The Goddess of the Hunt all had that contest to find out who was the most beautiful and that led to the third bloodiest war in history. She was especially disappointed in Andros and Satrina because she thought they knew better.
"And then after that fiasco, they had another brilliant idea and decided to ask some poor random man this question, and he killed himself on the spot cause he realized he was going to die no matter what goddess he picked.
Now his poor wife is a widow who have to raised her daughter all by herself." Amalech thought to herself, angry. She could now see she why she was so popular among the common folks.
"Why does this make me sad?" Amalech thought to herself, it was a nagging feeling that has been eating at her lately. That parasite that enjoyed being the Goddess that people think is virtuous and fair. Lapping up the attention and praise like a abused dog finding a good home. Amalech shifted her thoughts elsewhere before she dives straight into a personal crisis. And she had six of those just yesterday, thank you very much.
When she heard the prayer from Bailey Loppa, the High Priestess in Laphos working under King Werbert Harstein the second, she had to go there.
"She sounded so scared, like she was going to die." Amalech thought worried, She knew King Harstein was...well she doesn't like to cast judgements on someone she only met once. But based on her first impression . He was a greedy bastard who needed to get his ass beat.
"Hopefully i was wrong about that assumption, maybe there more to this man." She thought to herself as she saw the small developing kingdom of Laphos overhead. Multi-colored bricks made up most of the small buildings, giving everything a unique pattern. Probably as a way to boost the low morale among the poor workers. She was reminded of fellow God Apollo's color theory when they walked along the shores of Winetta.
She landed in Laphos. She took in her environment, the shocked mortals around her was wearing long flowing cloth that was dyed red to represent the kingdom's color. Most of the men wore half sashes and pants that ended just below their ankles. The women wore white headscarves adorned with flowers picked from the surrounding forest as was tradition, they had to go early in the morning to avoid bandits and dangerous predators. Their white skirts flowing in the wind like water paint onto a canvas.
People around her immediately started to bow and pray. Everybody rushed to get a look at the Sun Goddess. Amalech smiled, while she still felt awkward about the numerous people just bowing to her, she wasn't going to ignore them either. So she bowed to them and thanked them for everything.
"Thank you, without you all, i am nothing." Amalech said gratefully, her voice heard by everyone in the kingdom. This took the citizens aback because no God had every thanked anyone for anything, much less bowed to lowly humans such as them, thus increasing their faith in Amalech tenfold. The kingdom of Laphos itself was very diverse in terms of communities. There was five districts in this small, developing kingdom. The housing district, which contains the neighborhood of lovely, fine folk while poor in their pockets, they're rich in their hearts. The houses were varying in size from small two room houses to some homes being large enough to fit three families in there. Perfect for people looking to save some money.
There was the garden district, which is where people grew their crops to sell or bring back to their house as long as they pay a high as hell fee. This led to some homes being secretly converted into green houses, which is illegal and punishable by death. But the farmers managed to get away with it, as they also grew medicinal herbs which can be inhaled and produced a feeling of euphoria and calmness which the guards needed, so they turn a blind eye in exchange for some of that medicine.
The entertainment district as dubbed by Werbert himself, which only contained a barely functioning Pleasure district. The bar was half-built and only had watered down beer. The services by the Pleasure workers wasn't anything to write home about, you be better off doing it yourself.
And the Noble district, which is where the castle of Werbert Harstein is currently being built. Along with some fine-looking (but not too grandiose, they not about to have it better than Werbert.) houses of nobles who didn't know what the hell they did for a living but did know that staying in the good graces of the King is best for business.
This was the market district, as of right now there was shops for all sorts of commodities. From hand-made clothing to food such as fried peach surprise to small wooden carved effigies of Amalech and Kai. The Amalech ones were sold out while the Kai effigies stood by themselves, untouched and gathering dust. Amalech went over to the stand that sell them. Vapeon's Shop of Wooden Wonders.
"Oh for you it free!" Vapeon told the Goddess
"No really, i insist!" Amalech replied happily.
"You must understand and i mean no disrespect and this isn't my place to say and this might not be correct. But I can't just charge our Goddess." Vapeon explained.
Amalech just handed him the bag of golden coins.
"I must apologize and please forgive my boldness, you really don't have a choice in the matter. This will be a perfect gift for Raidala." Amalech told the merchant. Vapeon accepted it and thought to himself. Who was Raidala?
Many voices reached out to the humble Goddess of the Sun. It interested her greatly. Her and Winfrey, Goddess of Wine and patron saint of partying have one thing in common, and that is their interest and compassion to regular run of the mill mortals.
"Amalech! My goddess! Let me say just it a honor to meet you."
"I love your hair! How do you get it to be so white?!"
"Hey Amalech, i was drunk last night, do you know who i slept with? Because they took my underwear and-"
"Oh thanks the many Gods that roam this pitiful excuse for a earth i found you!" Said the Priestess. Amalech's eyes turned to the priestess who called her here to begin with. She was wearing white robes along with a red sash that was draped across her shoulders with a yellow sun sewed right right into it. She had long, straight black hair that went down her back. The front of the hair was tied into loose braids. She had rich black skin, but her pupils was a brilliant white. A sign of someone who been blessed by a Goddess of the Sun.
"Good day to you Bailey, i see you're lively!" Amalech said happily as she placed a gentle hand on Bailey's shoulder, it calmed the stressed priestess down, she got down on one knee. There was no one way to show respect to a god, but the general idea most people across the world seemed to accept was bowing or kneeling.
"I'm humbled you heard my call and took time out of your day to heed my request. Forgive me for asking this of you, but it a matter of upmost importance that the King speaks with you." Bailey said urgently. Amalech noted the hint of disdain when she said king but didn't call her out on it.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"No need for forgiveness Bailey, i was happy to stop by!" Amalech said, rubbing Bailey's hair. Bailey didn't know what to do with how casual Amalech was being. It put her at ease, if she was being honest.
" It so easy to forget she a God." The Priestess thought, calmed and yet still nervous about Amalech's demeanor. She have no idea what the Sun Goddess was truly thinking. She coughed and stand up and led the way to the small castle that Werbert resides in. "So how has your day been?" Amalech asked curiously.
Bailey ignored the looks she got from various passersby. She was used to it by this point, she couldn't blame them.
"Everything have been excellent so far!" Bailey lied happily. Her troubles was nothing compared to the incredible burden of being the Goddess of the Sun. But she was surprised when Amalech hugged her. Bailey kept her cool but on the inside she was panicking, she saw that people was looking at them and they might get the wrong idea.
"You don't have to lie to me Bailey, you know that." Amalech said softly as she rubbed her back.
"I-i don't know what you mean?" Bailey nervously asked of the Goddess, who hugged her tighter.
"Bailey, are you really going to keep up this charade? It completely pointless to do so when the other person already know what going on." Amalech advised softly.
Bailey was ashamed of herself, how could she not be honest to the Goddess she worshipped above all? "I'm sorry Amalech, i should have been honest from the start, please forgive me for my sins." Bailey apologized and sobbed silently.
"You have nothing to apologize for, if you can't talk here then afterwards when the meeting is over with, i take you somewhere secluded and you can tell me." She said, softly smiling at Bailey who looked at her with teary eyes. When Bailey looked into Amalech's eyes, all she saw was hope. when she was a prostitute working the daily grind, it was Amalech who rescued her from a drunken mob of Orandia soldiers. She wanted to stab herself with a knife repeatedly for ever thinking she couldn't trust her Goddess.
"Ok, Thank you Amalech. For everything." Bailey said, eternally grateful. "Thank you for beliving in me, Bailey." Amalech said equally grateful. Bailey led the way for Amalech as the civilians looked on in wonderment. King Warstein castle was still being constructed, but the main hall and his personal bedroom was finished. The castle seemed to be built using fresh bricks and planks of wood. There was workers carrying large planks of wood, freshly chopped. Behind them, Guards wearing more armor than was really necessary stood not too far from them, they had cruel looking sliver whips.
Amalech looked closely at the workers, they was clearly exhausted, there was deep wounds embedded into their backs and fresh cuts all over their bodies. One of the guards nudges the other one who looked at the Goddess of the Sun. They both threw their whips into the bushes and order the workers to go on break. "TAKE AS LONG AS YOU NEED!" The first guard said, hoping that Amalech wouldn't melt him on the spot. Amalech glared at the two guards who coward under the gaze of the Sun. Bailey turned to face Amalech. The Sun Goddess could feel the shame and anger emanating off her.
"Just a moment." Bailey said as she turned and walked over to the workers. Her hands glowing a soft white, she uttered a healing spell. " DECALPER HSELF." She placed both of her hands on the worn bodies of the two diligent if tired workers. The two men felt a relief permeated through out their bodies as their wounds mended together.
"Don't hit them again...." Amalech told the two guards sweetly, no trace of venom in her voice. That scare everyone sans Bailey who smiled a little, the sun grew brighter yet the workers couldn't feel anything it was the guards who broke out in a sweat as the unbearable heat weigh down on them.
"R-right..." One of the guards agree completely, not wanting to die.
"I know that you will go back to grueling labor after this but i hope that will help just a bit." Bailey said to the workers as she pulled on the rope that rang the bell that was suspended up high from a pole.
"WHO EMBARKS ON THIS CASTLE?" A bearded man yelled out from behind the door. There was a small round hole just big enough for a person to see through and speak through.
"STOP JESTING, IT ME GODDARD!" Bailey yelled back.
"ME WHO?"
"OH DON'T EVEN BEGIN TO PLAY ME LIKE A FOOL, I BROUGHT THE GODDESS OF THE SUN! AMALECH! SHOW SOME RESPECT!" She argued back.
"OH YOU MEAN THE ONE WHO YOU HAVE A LARGE PILLOW WITH HER LIKENESS ON IT?" He yelled. "I TOLD YOU THAT IN CONFIDE-JUST OPEN THE DOOR."
"GOT IT" He happily shouted. An extremely embearassed Bailey turned to see an amused Amalech just smiling at her.
"Forgive me my Goddess Amalech, that moron named is Goddard, he a liar and that why his wife left him for a young elven stud." She said to Amalech who just chuckled. The sun grew brighter, the workers around the castle felt energzied. Like they just got a good night sleep. Gods know that those fifteen minute anixety-filled sleep breaks wasn't cutting it. Especially when the person who supposed to be on watch for the vengeful guards keep dozing off.
The large doors creaked opened, revealing a short pale man with a long ginger beard and curly hair of the same color. Bailey shot Goddard a nasty glare as Goddard whistle innocently. "So you have a pillow of me?" Amalech asked teasingly. ]
"OH LOOK AT THAT,THE DOOR OPENED, LET GO INSIDE SHALL WE?" Bailey said in a hurry as she practically ran inside. Amalech following along, smiling. The inside of the Castle was properly furnished already, from the red rugs that greeted the two to the tables filled with a nice assortment of food. The aromas of meat and spices filled their nostrils.
"Greetings, my Goddess! Thank you Bailey for having bring her here!" The pompous, enthusiastic voice that said that was King Werbert Harstein, sitting in a golden chair as two servants carried the chair with difficulty As Werbert was a heavy set man. His skin was just a lighter shade than Bailey. He had greasy long sand-colored hair and round brown eyes.
"Humble as always, i see." Amalech said to which Bailey who had to cover her mouth to hide her laughter.
"Yes well, as my aunt said. If you're rich, show it. If you're poor, then hide it."
Werbert said as he got up from the chair, he stumbled over his own feet and fell face first onto the ground. Bailey went to help him up, about to burst with laughter, she look towards the two servants to see they was covering their mouths as well. Amalech was holding back a smile.
"Anyways I'm glad you came Amalech! We have something to discuss!" Werbert exclaimed as she gestured them to follow him to his other big golden chair that was imported from Nevaris. Amalech wondered why did he make those poor servants carry his fat self if he was just go all the way back anyways. Shouldn't Amalech and Bailey just meet him there? Bailey apparently read her mind. "Yeah you get used to complete idiocy like this." Bailey said matter of fact, not proud of it. She goes to the two servants and begin to perform another healing spell but Amalech stopped her and smiled.
"I want you two to go outside, just trust me." Amalech said calmly. The two workers who of course wasn't so brain-dead as to defy a Goddess who can melt them on the spot, at least that what they learn from the myths. So they left outside and felt like they just woke up, all pain was completely gone. Same go to all the workers outside, The guards felt drowsy and realize that maybe wearing so much armor while it hotter than Amalech's hair wasn't such a bright idea.
So they took off for the day, along with the workers to drink watered-down beer and have mediocre sex with the pleasure workers.
"Oh so i guess me being King is equal to just some oaf in a fancy crown." Werbert said under his breath, annoyed. He didn't care that she was a Goddess. Undermining someone is just rude, no matter what.
"Your words, not mine." Amalech said, smiling brightly.
"I'm going to ignore that." He also said under his breath. "Anyways as you very well know when a Kingdom come to be, it needs to expand in order to survive." He started off. Amalech already knew where this was going, so she tune him out. A prayer came to her ears.
"Please....Amalech...save me" "-And that why i need to get rid of that small village." Werbert finished. Bailey stood there, dumbfounded by how utterly blantant he was about it.
"No." Amalech said, staring him dead in the eyes.
"Perfect, didn't think that would've work but i kne-wait what." Werbert asked again to make sure he heard right. "No. To everything you just said. Now if you excuse me, i have somewhere to be." With that, Amalech turn to Bailey. She leaned in close to her ear.
"I will be back soon, meet me in FloWun." She told the Priestess before walking out the door. Werbert was pissed but couldn't say anything. She is a Goddess and he had a feeling that he was already a enemy in her eyes. He may have not been the smartest King but he wasn't completely brain-dead yet. "Bailey." Werbert call to the Priestess who was about to walk out the door. "Yes?" Bailey asked. He frowned, usually there was a "My King." after the yes.
"I need you to stay here." "No." came the short reply. Werbert's head tilt back like he was struck, a look of surprise mixed with betrayal was on his face. It was quite comical to the Priestess, she had to turn away so he wouldn't see her smile. "This is an direct order!" Werbert said, getting increasingly agitated. "I know, i'm the only one you talking to, so of course this an a direct order to me. I'm sorry but i can't obey." Bailey told him as she walk to the door.
"Guards! Seize her!" Webert ordered! The guards stood where they were, all four of them because the rest went off to the Pleasure district and Garden District respectively.
"Sorry my voice has been a little dead recently so i can forgive you for not hearing me when i said SEIZE HER!!!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. The guards stood there unmoving as Bailey made her way to the exit.
"My King, i know you're not dying of brain rot, that Priestess is Amalech's concubine ." One of the guards said. Bailey slowly turned around, a pinkish blush made it way onto her face, her mouth sputtering.
"WHAT." Bailey said as the guard shrugged. Werbert thought about it, she did have a pillow with Amalech's likeness on it. Everybody knows that those body-sized pillows was created by Aphros and given to her followers to worship her even while sleeping. Then the Artisans got the idea to depict other Gods on the pillows as well.
"You know what? I think you might be right." Werbert said , a plan forming in his head. He smiled to himself with glee. Bailey didn't want to dignified this with a response, she made note of that gleeful smile, Werbert was never good at hiding things.
"He wouldn't last a day in Orandia." She thought to herself as she left out and ran into the dwarf from earlier, He was drinking out of a metal flask.
"Where you going Bailey?" He inquired. "None of your business, you drunken snitch." She angrily replied.
"Jeez, how cold hearted of you. And you call yourself a Priestess of the Sun Goddess?" He jests. Bailey scoffs and continued her walk. "Seriously Bailey, watch out for Werbert." He said, catching up to her.
"I'm not stupid Goddard, besides Werbert was never subtle, i see it coming from a mile away." She told him seriously.
