Power and the cost of it. part 4

hidden by magic.

Feeling a little rushed, I wrote this section first as it seemed a little prudent to remain hidden and regardless of having not seen the book, I am still hiding among people coming and going. I am actually rather glad that your father has shown up here recently and has been checking on you. It is hard to write using only localized mana onto pages made for you and even to do a lot at once so it may seem a little shorter than they had been stretching to.

The two really didn't have a lot of events that happened on the road on the way home though the amount of traffic had Nicolas worried and they stayed off the road. Many seemed to be taking everything they owned with them and then there were bandits relieving them of their worldly possessions. The two had actually been stopped once by going through the bushes and encountered a bandit with his pants down literally and as they pulled a weapon, Nicolas bluffed with a line of bravado. "Shall a thug be roasted slowly or all at once with his excrement?" Being that he was a lone wizard, traveling towards whatever had happened further away, and the bandit was in no position to fight, he dropped his sword and fled. The two didn't risk it and marched the whole night into the day to avoid encountering them again as they certainly weren't alone to take up such a dangerous job.

When they got back to the town, they found that watch posts had been set up and the nearby forest seemed further away as some of the guards had spotted Nicolas long before he was within range and had apparently had time to contact Hilda as she was already out there. The two had joined into a tackle and had begun to chat quite a lot. Sam had put a lot of it off when he heard something he wasn't prepared for when they had previously been talking about bandit activity and events of the road.

Hilda Guardswell squeezed Nicolas so hard that even Sam could feel it through the bond as she said. "You have been my childhood friend and closest ally in this world, even among the guards, please, stay with me all my days." She said, producing a copper ring from a pouch that even seemed to hold a little magic at the time.

"I, Nicolas Miller, would gladly take your hand in marriage, I just need to touch the ground now..." He said, though got spun around in the air like a child as Hilda was far stronger than her mass would suggest, probably magic as well.

Something that is so simple that is easy to forget, a little bit of magic to push the wind around, keeping your smell from going a direction you are approaching, or keeping a smell from your nose, It is how I'm hiding with a much more complex gust spell that is keeping the air quite stagnant around me so that I may continue to observe at the time of writing this. I fear that most of your family has traits I may be at fault for...

I am unsure of what to do, I had to rematerialize relatively quickly as hiding in a book was not as easy as it might have seemed as that was quite a lot of energy to anchor to something without mana, even more to do it to an item that is infused with someone else's mana. I make no lie that this book is yours and that you can change it as you see fit Master Selena, it is how I have been stressing your body to empower your growth. I think I shall try to honor your father and leave notes for how to empower yourself the harder ways as doing so without a familiar is much harder and using the unreliable and quite dangerous method of mana tapping someone or something as it has created many a monster, long before I existed in this world.

Hold on, the head maid is here, sniffing? I'm well hidden but-

She's found the book... oh dear...
