Power and the cost of it. Part 1

"May I record this?"

"I can't speak though most means and this book is for Selena. Erasing words is even harder than adding them."

"I guess, I just had some questions, are you recording me already?"

"I took that as a yes, pardon me. May I ask your name for the record?"

Head maid "please just call me the head maid for now, but why are we in the halls?"

"Though I am here to serve lady Selena, I am technically here under my own power and do not wish to impede her growth and childhood. I only enter the room to put the book back and retrieve it for entries."

Head maid "I thought you called her your master. How are you even here without the summoning rites being preformed?"

"I can see that you are on edge, you are quite wise in the ways of magic and I think I shall tell you, though that will take a lot of mana to preform and probably many pages to do so. Are there any specific places you wish to be more comfortable while reading so that you might read these answers and tell the masters as you see fit?" There was a lot of extra ink and style engraved into the message, imparting a notion of privacy, even if the book was often left for the public to view.

Head maid "I think the dining, no, you crawl, sorry, sorry if that was insensitive. The sewing room then, early in the mornings should have few people that would pass through. She said, fidgeting a little as she clearly had a lot on her mind.

"Then so shall it be, I am a guest after all. Fame and notoriety shouldn't get in the way of the hosts way of life." He wrote as she finished reading the line before he closed the book rather abruptly before slithering away. The extra descriptions of events being detailed afterwards.

Hidden by magic.

"My my, finally someone addresses me directly and they seem to be on to me. They are quite smart and I should hope you had learned a lot from them by the time you are able to read this. As you have gotten this far though, you have at least learned the basics so I shall impart more stories along with some tutorials for your continued growth. These spells are rather complex and most don't bother to teach or even practice these abilities or use a short cut to replicate them. These lessons will have many implications and applications so please learn them well and be open to experimentation... Safely... regardless, here is some history before the practical studies."

A week had come and passed in a mighty hurry as the fields were tended, harvested, grinded, and more. The sensation of eating rodents was moderately gotten used to though, depending on the size, Sam resorted to using the same grapple ability that he'd been shown before by Silver to subdue his lunches. Which startled Nicolas to the point he checked with the apothecary the first time he heard it, as he witnessed it at the same time making it rather gruesome.

They were collecting that week's donations and payments as Hilda showed up that day. Seeming to hold a bag in hand and some papers as she waited for Nicolas to come to her from outside his property, calling him out like trying to call a puppy. Sam was left inside to which he was fine with. Even from a distance he could feel the excitement and would probably have felt out of place to be in a conversation between two love birds like that. He was fairly certain that Hilda worked with the guards but as she didn't carry a weapon, he guessed she either used a lot of magic or did a lot more work than just defending the hovel of a village. He wasn't allowed long to ponder this though as Nicolas came running in with some haste as he snatched Sam off the ground and began to spin around.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

"We are going to the city, we are going to get to study in power development!" He shouted rather happily as Hilda entered the room. Her firm demeanor giving Nic a pause in excitement to gather his wits.

"I have the papers for the apprentice Henry to house your granary and tend your fields, you will be good for a week, make haste, I want to see you back before then safe and sound." Hilda finished with a strong embrace and a lot of emotional support while Sam mentally questioned if he didn't care for this because he was a third wheel, no longer human and in fact a magical entity, or some other disconnect that had followed him from his previous life. He wasn't sure as he did what he could to grip Hilda's back to escape the grapple while he was fairly certain Silver was laughing at him from bellow as he entered the room.

The next day the pair had given Henry the run down of the farm before Nicolas grabbed his rucksack and set out on the road. It was supposed to be a two day journey to and from with one day of rest in the town coming to only five days if they hurried and six if they had to stop for a night. It was interesting to Sam at the time that they had planned an extra two days time to and from but he ignored it at the time. When they were on the road though, He couldn't help but want to speak just to lament his impatience.

The city wasn't exactly large, it was, for all intents and purposes, just another village that was about three times larger but seemed to have a cobblestone road in another direction from the main gate which lead further in the opposite direction of their home. It was probably a one gate town as it was imbedded into a hillside and had decent defenses for having a lot of high ground which meant that they probably only walled off one side, though Sam really couldn't tell much from the distance. They ended up going into a small street that seemed to have multiple chapels of different denominations though the one with the largest windows that appeared to be a library more than a chapel upon entering, though the partitioners were dressed in extremely clean and refined clothes that had no adornment for being such high quality, or at least what qualified for high quality of the times.

"Welcome to the chapel of knowledge, a donation to help maintain the books and the answers we can provide shall be yours." A priest said as he approached the two, with as much enthusiasm as one might expect to repeat lines that have probably been force fed to him to be force fed to everyone who entered. When Nicolas turned and bowed to the man though, the priest noticed he wasn't alone and locked eyes on Sam. "Ah, a familiar, so you are a mage, I am brother Lucious Clearwater but you can call me brother Lucious, are you here for a reading?" He said, exceptionally more excited like it was the first time in a month someone new had came into the chapel, perhaps longer thinking about it.

"Yes, please brother Lucious, I have reached the peek of what I can do on my own." He said before shifting his shoulder and pulled Sam around to rest in his arm. "What I can do without guidance is more appropriate." He said, rubbing Sam's sides, trying to massage his muscles and get him to relax as he could tell that Sam was quite tense.

"Yes, yes, right this way. Please be careful though, many of these books can't be replaced." He said, preparing a flask of water and pulling out a rather remarkable goblet that Lucious prepared a ritual for over time.

"My, I'm sorry, this is quite exhausting, I will need to finish this later as I won't endanger your health just to write for you." The page ended abruptly, trailing off and down a bit as his exhaustion took hold.
